Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Lucille E. Howard

Sept. 19, 1923 – Oct. 30, 2005

Lucille E. Howard, 82, of Knightstown, died Sunday, Oct. 30, at Hancock Regional Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 19, 1923 in Wayne County, Ky., a daughter of the late Sam and Molly (Brown) Coomer.

Mrs. Howard retired from Guide Lamp in Anderson in 1979 after 30 years of service. She was a founding member of Community Baptist Church in Raysville. A loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Mrs. Howard enjoyed cooking and was known for her Sunday dinners and sense of humor. She often helped people in the community was known as a giver.

Survivors include seven children, Peggy (husband, Ray) Roseberry of Anderson, Roberta (husband, Jack) Lay of Knightstown, Dale (wife, Misty) Winchester of New Castle, Wanda Keith of Indianapolis, Michael (wife, Duella) Howard of New Castle, Jena Howard of Carthage, Lisa Kaye (husband, Phil) Byers of South Hill, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Kelli Roseberry, Michele Gaw, Chip Roseberry, Brian, Brad and Brett Ratliff, Robin Heugel, Carol Wilson-Hawley, Patricia Wirsch, Shannon Moore and Steven Byers; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Rita Lester of West Virginia; three brothers, Robert Coomer of Clinton, Ill., Joe Coomer of Anderson, and Leland Coomer of Monticello, Ky.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Winchester; her second husband, Charles W. Howard; a granddaughter, Nicole Brammer; and a brother, Hobart Coomer.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Rev. Danny Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Carthage Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Community Baptist Church in Raysville or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Marilyn E. Mosier

January 20, 1939 – Oct. 25, 2005

Marilyn E. (Leisure) Mosier, 66, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Morristown.

She was born January 20, 1939, a daughter of the late Lowell and Eva (Gray) Leisure. Mrs. Mosier worked for the Carthage Post Office until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a 1957 graduate of Carthage High School.

Survivors include two daughters, Risa (husband, Jeff) Jackson of Greenfield, and Denise (husband, Kevin) Nelis of Greenwood; three sisters, Sue (husband, Gary) Mason of Mooresville, Marcia (husband, LeRoy) Richardson of Greenfield, and Connie (husband, Charles) Murnan of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Jimmy Jackson of Greenwood, Adrianne Helton of Paragon, and Corey Nelis of Indianapolis; four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. at Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage with Roger Campbell officiating. Cremation followed services. Visitation was Friday, Oct. 28, from 5-8 p.m. at Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage.

William W. “Bill” Stanley

Sept. 14, 1952 – Oct. 28, 2005

William W. “Bill” Stanley, 53, of Knightstown, died Friday, Oct. 28, at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born Sept. 14, 1952 in Greenield, a son of the Omer S. and Mable J. (Preston) Stanley.

He married Linda L. (Beech) Stanley on May 25, 1985. Mr. Stanley worked in shipping and receiving for 10 years at Service Engineering Corporation in Greenfield. He was an avid fisherman and Nascar fan.

Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Stanley of Knightstown; a brother, John K. Stanley of Indianapolis; five sisters, Pam Stanley and Cheryl Millican, both of Greenfield; Margaret Elliott of Indianapolis, Jane Ellenberger of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Linda K. Shepherd of Morristown; several nieces and nephews; his pets, Sadie, Lady, Cuddles and Buffy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his mom, Lucille Beech.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Erlewien Mortuary in Greenfield with Pastor Calvin Hensley officiating. Visitation was from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the funeral home. Burial took place at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Linda Stanley, c/o Erlewein Mortuary, 1484 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.

Carolyn S. Freeman-Harp

August 7, 1939 – Oct. 28, 2005

Carolyn S. Freeman-Harp, 66, of Knightstown, died Friday, Oct. 28, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born Aug. 7, 1939 in Hancock County, a daughter of Paul E. and Mabel Lorraine (Jones) Joyce.

Mrs. Freeman-Harp was a medical receptionist in Greenfield and was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of Nameless Creek Christian Church and the Indiana Lupus Foundation. She enjoyed corcheting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn (husband, Fred) Wooldridge and Shelly Martin, both of Knightstown; two sons, Bill (wife, Angie) Freeman of Shirley, and John (wife, Leah) Freeman of Knightstown; her father, Paul E. Joyce of New Castle; nine grandchildren, Todd and Julie Wooldridge, Joshua and Stephanie Martin, Cody and Kyle Freeman, Greg, Eric and Jami Freeman; two brothers, Richard Joyce of Florida, and Everett Joyce of Greenfield; one sister, Judy Troxell of Texas; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1985.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Visitation was from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the funeral home. Burial followed funeral services at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Lupus Foundation.

Jake R. Lough

April 24, 1919 – Oct. 28, 2005

Jake R. Lough, 86, of New Castle, died Friday, Oct. 28, at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

He was born April 24, 1919, a son of the late Lawrence and Eva (Hansel) Lough.

Mr. Lough retired in 1984 from Borg Warner Corporation in Muncie after 38 years of service. He was also associated with Dudley’s Service Station in New Castle for several years. While serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Mr. Lough was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post 137 and UAW 287. An avid bowler and golfer, Mr. Lough also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and spent many hours watching television with his faithful dog, Brandy.

Survivors include five daughters, Shera Fine (fiance, Mike Abney) of Muncie; Deborah Stanley of Mt. Summit, Theda (husband, George) McFalls, Randi (husband, John) Lowhorn, and Lisa Lough, all of New Castle; a sister, Florence Ward of Mississippi; 10 grandchildren, Brian Stillwell of New Castle, Jill Stillwell of Indianapolis, Amy Ellis, Misty (husband, bob) Edwards, of New Castle; Tracy Godfrey of Indianapolis, Travis Godfrey of New Castle, Kim (husband, Rusty) York of Knightstown, Johnnie (wife, Ginger) Lowhorn of New Castle, Christa Chowning of New Castle, Amanda Brake (fiance, Jeremy Hedges) of New Castle; several great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Maggie Lough of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lough was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Evelyn; a son, Michael Stillwell; a brother, Sheldon Lough; two infant sisters; a grandson, Eric Lowhorn; a great grandson, Conner Byrket; a son-in-law, David Stanley; a daughter-in-law, Patty Stillwell.

Funeral Services were at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with military rites conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Burial followed in Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Thelma Greenwell

Sept. 23, 1915 – Nov. 8, 2005

Thelma Greenwell, 90, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, at The Waters Nursing Home in New Castle.

She was born Sept. 23, 1915, in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Harry and Lillian (Bartley) Hamel.

A homemaker, Mrs. Greenwell lived most of her life in the Lewisville area. She was a licensed beautician and had worked in Rushville and New Palestine. Mrs. Greenwell also worked in the Henry County Assessor’s office for four years and Century Press in New Castle for four years.

Survivors include three sons, Richard (wife, Laura) Greenwell of Leesburg, Fla., Charles Greenwell of New Castle, and James (wife, Elene) Greenwell of New Castle; a daughter-in-law, Linda Greenwell of Rushville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Dorthy Totton of Carmel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Greenwell, whom she married in Cambridge City on Feb. 6, 1937; two sisters, Margaret and Virginia; a brother, Harold Hamel; a son, Robert; and one grandson, Steve Greenwell.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Rev. Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery.

Verl “Tom” Palmer

April 18, 1942 – Nov. 7, 2005

Verl “Tom” Palmer, 63, of Wanatah and formerly of Kouts, died Monday, Nov. 7, at his home.

He was born April 18, 1942, in Centerville, a son of Verl and Elizabeth (Collier) Palmer.

Mr. Palmer graduated from Centerville High School in 1960 and served in the United State Air Force until 1968. He had worked in the Water Department at the Westville Correctional Center for the past year. Mr. Palmer was a lifetime member of the Kouts American Legion Post, B.P.O.E. Elks 500 in Valparaiso and the Westville Masonic Lodge. He was a former member of the Orak Shrine.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Linda (Howard) Palmer of Wanatah; three children, Verl T. Palmer, Jr., of Missouri, Jody (husband, Jon) McMahel of Knightstown, and Judy (husband, Matt) Gerrassimoff of Arizona; two step-sons, David (wife, Debbie) Cincoski of Chesterton, and Daniel Cincoski, Jr., of Rolling Prairie; his mother, Elizabeth Palmer of Centerville; one brother, Edward (wife, Pat) Palmer of Centerville; and six grandchildren, Jon-Eric, Lauren, Austin, Alex, Alexandria and Madison.

Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Wanatah Funeral Chapel with Rev. Craig Forwalter officiating. Burial will follow services. Visitation is Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westville Masonic Lodge or Kouts American Legion Post.
