Jean S. “Olivia” (Spears) Colip, 74, of Wilkinson, died Wednesday, October 5 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Dec. 15, 1930 in Henry County, a daughter of the late Ernest “Red” and Ruby A. (Phillips) Spears.
Mrs. Colip retired from General Motors in Anderson. A graduate of Knightstown High School, she enjoyed working in her flower garden and shopping with her daughters. Mrs. Colip was a dedicated mother who loved her family and life.
Survivors include two sons, Greg (wife, Jenni) Colip of Pendleton, and Douglas (wife, Brenda) Colip of Charlottesville; two daughters, Carla (husband, Tom) Banner of New Castle, and Candice (husband, Brett) Wilfong of Donovan, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Pierce of Wilkinson; a brother, Dale “L.D.” (wife, Carolyn) Spears of Wilkinson; several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Colip was preceded in death by one son, Terry Lee Colip; two brothers, Donald Spears in 1979, and Ronald “Frank” Spears in 2000; a sister, Jerri Zimmerman in 2002; and former husband Neil “Pete” Colip in 1999.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jim Jackson and Donna Thompson officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 at the funeral home.

James A. Horton
Sept. 25, 1928 – Oct. 6, 2005
James A. “Jim” Horton, 77, of Shirley, died Thursday, Oct. 6, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie after an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Glasgow, Ky., a son of the late Brady and Elizabeth (Conner) Horton. Formerly of Muncie, Mr. Horton lived in California before moving to Shirley in 1972. He retired from Modernfold in New Castle in 1994 after 20 years. A traveler throughout his life, he also enjoyed producing music.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Doris E. (Marine) Horton; two sons, Gary and Darrell Horton, both of Gas City; two daughters, Debbie Horton of Marion, and Brenda (husband, Tony) Wilkinson of Shirley; two stepsons, Fred (wife, Tina) Fletcher of Shirley, and David Fletcher of New Castle; four stepdaughters, Vicki Williams of Straughn, Carol (husband, Mark) Simerly of Straughn, Sandy (husband, Terry) Boles of Mt. Summit, and Barbara Morgan of New Castle; 24 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Lillian Moore; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and business acquaintances.
Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Willie Horton, and a brother-in-law, Fred Moore.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Shirley with Jim Jackson of the Shirley Friends Church officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemtery in Wilkinson. Visitation was from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 at the funeral home.
Edna O. Kemerly
Mar. 23, 1925 – Oct. 17, 2005
Edna O. Kemerly, 80, of Shirley, died Monday, Oct. 17, at Pleasant View Lodge Nursing Home in Indianapolis.
She was born March 23, 1925 in Henry County, a daughter of the late Maurice and Myrtle (Reece) Magee. Mrs. Kemerly retired from the laundry department at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield after 21 years of service. She was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 Auxiliary and Wilkinson Church of Christ. Mrs. Kemerly also attended Shirley Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Maurice “Pete” (wife, Carol) Kemerly of Middletown; four daughters, Janet Kemerly of Indianapolis, Jeanne (husband, Doc) Dickerson of Knightstown, Rita (husband, Marvin) Fleming of Greenfield, and Loretta (husband, Dan) Inman of Indianapolis; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Esther Carmichael of Spiceland; two brothers, Charles Magee of Spiceland, and Howard Magee of Brocton, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Kemerly, in 1995, and a brother, Eldon Magee.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Casey J. Kemerly and Rev. Larrel Boling officiating. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson following funeral services.

Alice Evitt
July 14, 1929 – Oct. 16, 2005
Alice Evitt, 76, of Markleville, died at her home on Sunday, October 16.
She was born July 14, 1929 in Gary, a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Antus (French) Makosky. Mrs. Evitt retired from Hooks Drugs in Greenfield, where she served as a pharmacy technician. She lived at Lakewood Village in Punta Gorda, Fla., for 17 years.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Evitt of Markleville, and John (wife, Debbie) Evitt of Greenfield; a daughter, Mary (husband, Steve) Mosley of Cicero; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Evitt; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth McClelland and Loretta McCallaugh; and a brother, Thomas Makosky.
Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Edward Evitt officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Visitation was from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home.
Lula B. Brown
Nov. 25, 1935 – Oct. 15, 2005
Lula B. Brown, 69, of Knightstown, died Saturday, Oct. 15 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born Nov. 25, 1935 in New Palestine, a daughter of the late Peter Raymond and Lula Opal (Mussman) Sleeth.
Mrs. Brown retired from Thompson Electric in 1996 after 37 years of service. She graduated from New Palestine High School in 1954. She was an avid angler and gambler, and she loved vacationing.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffery Brown and Ray Brown, both of Knightstown; two daughters, Crystal Baker of Charlottesville, and Cheryl Gosset of Carthage; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three sisters, Carol Miller of New Palestine, Marlene Taylor of Shelbyville, and Ann Spiker of Morristown; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Brown, in 1994; two brothers, Raymond and George Sleeth; four sisters, Gayla Bowling, Imogene Swords, Grace Ellsbury and Jenny May Short.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. at Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home.

Terry L. Keesling-Gebhart
Dec. 4, 1960 – Oct. 16, 2005
Terry L. Keesling-Gebhart, 44, of Greenfield, died Sunday, October 16, at Methodist Hospital Hospice Unit in Indianapolis.
She was born Dec. 4, 1960 in Rushville, a daughter of Wilbur A. and Jessie M. (Clay) Keesling.
Mrs. Keesling-Gebhart was a 1979 graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis. In 1985 she graduated from Ivy Tech School of Nursing. She worked for several nursing homes in Indianapolis and she enjoyed taking care of elderly people and was considered an excellent nurse. She was a past member of the Indiana State Nurses Association.
Survivors include her parents of Grayson, Ky.; her husband, Mark A. Gebhart of Greenfield; two sons, Matthew J. Gebhart of Greenfield, and Brad A. (wife, Crystal) Keesling of Indianapolis; a daughter, Jessica L. Gebhart of Greenfield; a grandson, Austin Allen Keesling of Indianapolis; maternal grandmother, Dora Clay of Grayson, Ky.; paternal grandmother, Catherine Keesling of Knightstown; four sisters, Lisa (husband, Paul) Powell of Brownsburg, Pam (Raymond) Hull of Indianapolis; Debra Bentley of Greenwood, Dora (husband, Steven) Stern of Indianapolis; one brother, Stephen (wife, Beverly) Keesling of Indianapolis; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Keesling-Gebhart was preceded in death by her grandfather and grandmother, Gerald and Isabell Keesling; grandfather, Ollie Clay; and a niece, Regan Narmore.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jack Clay officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home.

Chester A. Hammer
Nov. 16, 1931 – Oct. 13, 2005
Chester A. Hammer, 73, of Shirley, died Thursday, October 13, at The Heart Center of Indiana in Indianapolis.
Mr. Hammer was born Nov. 16, 1931 in Marion, a son of the late Chester A. and Mildred Margarite (Newell) Hammer.
He was the class president of the Wilkinson High School Class of 1950. Mr. Hammer served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He retired after 38 years from Delco-Remy in Anderson, where he served as a design engineer. An avid woodworker, Mr. Hammer was a member of Shiloh Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joann (Smith) Hammer of Shirley; three sons, Rick A. (wife, Diane) Hammer of Hudson, Richard L. (wife, Holly) Hammer of Indianapolis, and Jeffery R. (wife, Jeanette) Hammer of Gratz, Austria; three daughters, Teresa (husband, Wendell) Hester of Shirley, Kathy (husband, John) Hancock of Greenwood, and Karen (husband, Brian) Jeffries of Wilkinson; 14 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; a brother, Don Hammer of Shirley; a sister, Joyce Siefert of Marion; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Minister Fred Girdwood officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with military graveside rites. Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home.
