Nancy L. Miller Smith

Nancy L. Miller Smith, of Indianapolis, died Wednesday, June 29, at Methodist Hospital.
Nancy graduated from Spiceland High School in 1954. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Continuing Studies and was working on her MSW. She retired in 2002 from the I.U. School of Law where she had been employed for over 10 years. She had recently worked for the Indiana Department of Health.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Bouchie of Irving, Texas and Darlene (Thomas) Dayton of Indianapolis; one son, David (fiancé Donna) Smith of Indianapolis; two brothers, Randall Miller of Knightstown and Vernon Miller of Middletown; and three grandchildren, Christine Bouchie, Nicole Bouchie and Stephanie Smith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 2, at Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held Friday, July 1, at the Crown Hill Funeral Chapel. Crown Hill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Olive P. Godby
Oct. 16, 1914 – June 30, 2005
Olive P. Godby, 90, of Mays, died Thursday, June 30, at Hancock Memorial Hospital, Greenfield. She was born October 16, 1914, in Hamilton County, daughter of the late Clara Richards and Earl Parker.
Mrs. Godby had lived in Rush County since 1948. She graduated from Walnut Grove High School, Hamilton County, in 1932. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Danville Central Normal College and a Master’s in education from Ball State University. She was an elementary teacher in Hamilton County for 11 years before moving to Rush County, where she taught at Mays Elementary for 32 years. Mrs. Godby was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Amicitia Club, the Indiana State Historical Society, the Rushville Historical Society, the state and local Retried Teachers’ Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, the Martha’s Circle of KUMC and the Center Township Home Ec Club.
Mrs. Godby is survived by son Henry “Hank” (wife Janet) Godby of Shelbyville; two granddaughters, Suzanne Godby of Columbus and Jennifer (husband Ronald) Reid of Lafayette; and great-grandson Ronald Dean Reid, III of Lafayette.
She married Joseph F. Godby on August 12, 1938 and he preceded her in death in 1990. In addition to her parents, a sister, Elizabeth Ann Overman, also predeceased her.
Funeral services were held at Moster & Cox Mortuary, Rushville, on Saturday, July 2, with Rev. Steve Brackney officiating. Graveside services followed at the Aroma Cemetery, Hamilton County.
Visitation was held Friday, July 1, at Moster & Cox Mortuary.

Joan Pearl Shelton
Feb. 14, 1933 – July 7, 2005
Joan Pearl Shelton, 72, of New Castle, died Thursday, July 7, at her home following an extended illness. She was born February 14, 1933, in Henry County, daughter of the late Cleo and Marie (Shoopman) McCall.
Mrs. Shelton was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of New Castle and was active in the Henry County Democratic Party, having served as a precinct committeeman. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and relaxing on her front porch with her dog, Biff. In addition to her own family, she helped raise her daughter Robin’s children.
Mrs. Shelton is survived by two sons, Sammy (special friend Barbara Nicholas) Shelton of New Castle and Don (wife Sandy) Shelton of Knightstown; six grandchildren, Casey Shelton of New Castle, John (wife Sara) Wallace of Muncie, Stacy Shelton of Dayton, Ohio, Lucas Shelton of Hagerstown, Josh Shelton of Knightstown and Brian (wife Erin) Shelton of New Castle; and great-nephew Rick Koger.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Shoopman; her husband, Robert Shelton, who died in 1995; her daughter Robin Shelton, who died in 1994; three brothers, Bud, Kenny and Frank McCall; and one sister, Elizabeth Madden.
Graveside services were held Saturday, July 9, at the South Mound Cemetery, Westlawn Addition, with Sister Shirley Girth officiating.
Main & Frame Funeral Home, Broad St. Chapel, New Castle, was in charge of arrangements.
Joseph S. Molden
June 3, 1920 – June 30, 2005
Joseph S. Molden, 85, of Sebring, Fla., died Thursday, June 30, at the Plantation Key Convalescent Care Center in Tavernier, Fla. He was a former resident of Knightstown and Key Largo, Fla. Mr. Molden was born June 3, 1920, in Idaville, Ind., son of the late Arthur (AP) and Ethel (Byrd) Molden of Wilkinson.
Mr. Molden was a 1938 graduate of Wilkinson High School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division. He retired from Delco-Remy after 30 years of service. Mr. Molden was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the VFW.
He is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Carter of Tavernier, Fla.; a son, William Howard Molden of Ione, Wash.; three grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Mary Etta (husband Harry) Shaul of Wilkinson; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Molden was preceded in death by his wife Mary Frances (Martin) Molden and his wife of 55 years, Margaret (McCarty) Molden; four brothers; and one sister.
Memorial services will be held on July 18, 11 a.m., at Stephenson-Nelson Funeral Home, Sebring, Fla., with interment in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Avon Park, Fla. A military graveside service will be held.
Joyce (Skaggs) Tull Hutcheon
May 6, 1914 – July 8, 2005
Joyce (Skaggs) Tull Hutcheon, 91, of Columbus, died Friday, July 8, at Four Seasons Health Care Center. She was born May 6, 1914, in Jennings County, daughter of the late George S. and Martha Frances Cox Vinson.
Mrs. Hutcheon graduated from Franklin College in 1936 with a Bachelor’s degree and received a Master’s degree from Indiana University. In 2000 she received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Franklin College. She taught school for 24 years, teaching in Knightstown Jr./Sr. High School and Columbus Jr. and Sr. High Schools. She began her teaching career at the age of 10, teaching Sunday school at Graham Baptist Church in Jennings County.
Mrs. Hutcheon was a member of Columbus First Baptist Church, D.A.R., Tri Kappa Sorority and Indiana High School Retired Teachers Association. She was a 50-year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Sorority, Women Teacher’s Society and Delta Zeta Sorority. She was an Honorary Trustee of Franklin College, the only woman ever to hold that position. She is recognized for her many areas of involvement with Franklin College, including the E. Don and Joyce Tull Chair in Business and Management and the Tull Lecture Series. Tull scholarships are awarded each year to two students majoring in accounting, business or economics. She donated over 50 pieces of her Southwest art collection to the college. Art objects are housed in the library, the President’s residence and in the E. Don and Joyce Tull Family Conference Room in the Dietz Center for Professional Development. She also supported scholarships at Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga., Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Green Lake Baptist Assembly in Green Lake, Wis. and Edna Martin Christian Center in Indianapolis. She was active at Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus, serving as chairwoman of the Chapel Committee for three years.
In 2003, Mrs. Hutcheon was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank O’Bannon.
She married Frank G. Hutcheon in 1999 and he survives. Also surviving are sons Frank Tull and Kenneth (wife Donna) Tull of Columbus; stepdaughters Patsy Dick (husband Fred) Jabaley of Alpharetta, Ga. and Sheila Barr of Franklin; stepson W. Bruce (wife Kathy) Hutcheon of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren Margaret Ann Tonnies, Ian and Steven Harrison, Susan and Jennifer Jabaley, Laura and Scotland Hutcheon; great-grandchildren Ava and Kyle Tonnies and Abby and Tyler Hutcheon.
Mrs. Hutcheon was preceded in death by husbands Ralph Skaggs in 1944 during the Battle of the Philippines, E. Don Tull in 1982 and Harold M. Dick in 1990; grandson Brian Tull; sisters Amney Estell and Elizabeth Buck; and brothers Marion, Harry and Howard Vinson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 12, at First Baptist Church in Columbus, with the Reverends Jon Carlstrom, William Griffith, Norie Erickson and Donald Buck officiating. Burial followed in Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday, July 11, at the Four Seasons Chapel and before the service at the First Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church for the E. Don and Joyce Tull Scholarship Fund, to the Four Seasons Employee Christmas Fund or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Mrs. Dorothy L. Snedigar
Apr. 16, 1923 – July 16, 2005
Mrs. Dorothy L Snedigar, 82, of Knightstown, died Saturday, July 16, at Hancock Memorial Hospital, Greenfield. She was born April 16, 1923, in Lewisville, daughter of the late Jim Loveall and Sarah (Phillips) Loveall.
Mrs. Snedigar was a homemaker and had lived in Knightstown most of her life. She was a member of Knightstown Christian Church.
A son, Robert E. Snedigar of New Castle survives. Also surviving are two sisters, Lois Jackson and Lora Wells, both of Knightstown; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and friend Ercel Bever, Jr.
Mrs. Snedigar was preceded in death by her husband Everett Snedigar; a son, Fred Snedigar; two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 20, 10 a.m., at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, Knightstown, with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home, Tuesday, July 19.
Ruby C. Murray
Dec. 8, 1919 – July 4, 2005
Ruby C. Murray, 85, of Knightstown, died Monday, July 4, at the Waters of New Castle. She was born December 8, 1919, in Henry County, daughter of the late George and Lutie (Gulley) Sparks.
Mrs. Murray was a 1938 graduate of New Castle High School and was a beautician from 1955 – 1976. She had also worked at Perfect Circle in Hagerstown for 10 years in the accounting department. She was a member of the Greensboro United Methodist Church and the Greensboro Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Murray is survived by a sister, Imogene (husband Sherman) Catt of New Castle; nieces Susan Cross and Connie (husband Gene) Cross, both of New Castle; nephews John (wife Liz) Catt and Harold Dye, both of New Castle; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Murray in 1998 and two sisters, Nannie Dye and Hazel I. Johnson.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 8, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with the Reverends Mark Powell and Bill House officiating. Burial followed in South Mound Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 7.
