Nadine D. (Rose) Swanson
June 14, 1927 – June 10, 2005
Nadine D. Swanson, 77, of Royal Oak, Mich., formerly of Knightstown, died June 10, in Lincoln Park, Mich. She was born June 14, 1927, in Canton, Ohio.
Mrs. Swanson was a 1945 graduate of Knightstown High School. She had designed a Mass card that was sent to soldiers during World War II. She is a graduate of Wayne State University and received a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from OCC. Mrs. Swanson was an artist, using oils, watercolors and pastels. She enjoyed gardening and spectator sports.
Survivors include her children, David H. (wife Pamela) Swanson, James E. (wife Shanlu) Swanson and Diane E. (husband Mike) Kirksey; grandchildren Amanda, Robert, Melissa, James II, Jason, Jeremy, Angela, Jerry, David A. and Mikey; great-grandchildren Kegan, Colton, Gabriel, Ashley and David A. III; siblings, Farris (wife Betty) Rose, Trudy (husband Ken) Martin, Lawrence (wife Elsie) Rose, Art (wife Beverly) Rose, Deanna (husband Roger) Griffin and Phillip (wife Wanda) Rose.
Siblings James, Bob, Cecil, Carl Lee and Jackie preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 21 at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, Royal Oak, Mich., with her son David officiating. Burial followed at Oakview Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday, June 20, at the funeral home.
Janice Elaine (Heck) Fletcher
Apr. 8, 1922 – June 17, 2005
Janice Elaine (Heck) Fletcher, 83, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Indiana, died Friday, June 17, in Zephyrhills. She was born April 8, 1922 in Mays, daughter of the late Thomas and Loa Heck.
Mrs. Fletcher was a member of the Raleigh Christian Church and also was active in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. In 1984, she retired to Florida and became a member of the Dade City Christian Church.
She married Clarence Fletcher of Lewisville on July 4, 1940, and he survives. Mrs. Fletcher is also survived by three children, Jane Ann (husband Dr. Charles) Pippenger of South Burlington, Vt., David (wife Patsy) Fletcher of Prior Lake, Minn. and Nancy (husband Stephen) Merritt of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Dr. Michael Pippenger, Geoffrey Pippenger, Susan Jacob, John Fletcher, Dr. Deborah Merritt, Michelle Morrow, Teresa Welsh and Richard Brooks; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, a daughter, Marilyn, preceded her in death.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 23, at the Lewisville Cemetery, Lewisville, with Rev. Tony Augsburger officiating. Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Horace Hale Elwell
Ma. 13, 1930 – June 13, 2005
Horace Hale Elwell, 75, of Raleigh, died Monday, June 13, at his residence. He was born March 13, 1930 in Marion County, son of the late Ralph H. and Odette Gladys (Hollingsworth) Elwell.
Mr. Elwell graduated from Raleigh High School in 1949. He played basketball in high school. Mr. Elwell lived in the Raleigh community most of his life and retired as a farmer. He was a founding member of the Raleigh Fire Department, a member of the Raleigh Community Club and a trustee on the Raleigh Zion Cemetery Board. He drove a school bus and his own livestock truck for several years. Mr. Elwell was a member of the Lewisville Methodist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include two sons, Eric H. (wife Joan) Elwell and Wayne E. (wife Angie) Elwell all of Rushville; one daughter, Lisa (husband Chris) Hough of LaGrange Park, Ill.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; half brother Eugene (wife Jean) Elwell of West Fort Myers, Fla.; and half sister Beatrice (husband Duke) Ferrell of South Bend.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 16, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel, with Rev. Marion Hickman officiating. Burial followed in Raleigh Zion Cemetery.
Visitation was held Wednesday, June 15, at the funeral home.

Sherra Ann (Goble) Wells
Nov. 24, 1950 – June 17, 2005
Sherra Ann (Goble) Wells, 54, of Indianapolis, died June 17, at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis. She was born November 24, 1950, in Wilmington, N.C., daughter of Harold and Ann LaVonne (Johnson) Goble.
Mrs. Wells was a member of Oaklandon Christian Church and had been a preschool teacher there for 11 years. She enjoyed traveling, hiking, camping, and especially teaching.
She married James P. Wells on May 17, 1966, and he survives. She is also survived by her parents; two daughters, Sheila Ann Porter of Atkinson, N.C. and Cynthia Lynn Archer of McCordsville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother Harold “Del” Goble of N.C.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 21, at Oaklandon Christian Church, with Seals Funeral Home, Fortville, in charge of the arrangements. Dan Asche of Oaklandon Christian Church officiated. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday, June 20, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oaklandon Christian Church Preschool.
Harold W. Paul
May 22,1927 – June 19, 2005
Harold W. Paul, 78, of Richmond, died Sunday, June 19, at Reid Memorial Hospital, Richmond, following an extended illness. He was born May 22, 1927, in Henry County, son of the late William Alpha Paul and Alma Harris Paul.
Mr. Paul lived all of his life in the Wayne County area. He served in the U.S. Army and received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal – Japan. He had worked at McCoy Refuse and also farmed.
Mr. Paul is survived by one son, Michael (wife Becky) Paul of Hagerstown; one daughter, Patricia (husband David) Eckerle of Eaton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Sandi (husband Travis) Sipes of Oden, Stephen (wife Cherry) Smith of Cambridge City, Jamie (wife Michelle) Paul of Richmond and Chris (wife Kathy) Lane of Knightstown; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Paul of New Lisbon; two sisters, Betty Lakes of Dublin and Mary Thomas of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Paul was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth W. Queary.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 22, at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin, with Albert Lay officiating. Burial followed in New Lisbon Cemetery, New Lisbon.
Visitation was held at the funeral home prior to the service.
Louise Wilson
Sept. 4, 924 – June 18, 2005
Louise Wilson, 80, of Warsaw, died Saturday, June 18, at Millers Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born September 4, 1924, in Knightstown, daughter of the late Walter and Auttie (Lewis) Mattix.
Ms. Wilson received her LPN from Fannie Allen Hospital, S. Burlington, Vt. She retired as an LPN from Murphy Medical Center and Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was a member of First Christian Church, Warsaw.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (husband Paul) Zerr of Gilbert, Ariz.; one son, Michael (wife Tracy) Wilson of Warsaw; grandchildren Patrick Zerr of Gilbert, Ariz., Jennifer (Zerr) Goudie of Chandler, Ariz., Jennifer (Wilson) Gueber of Ft. Wayne and Julie (Wilson) Spangle of North Manchester; great-grandchildren Jessica Zerr, Tyler Goudie, Tatum Goudie, Austin Spangle, Madison Gueber and Grace Gueber; and a sister, Evelyn Anderson of Knightstown.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Wilson was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Vern Mattix.
Funeral services will be held at Todd Funeral Home Thursday, June 23, at 2 p.m., with Paul Zerr officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, and two hours prior to the service on Thursday.

Glenn Cunningham
Apr. 25, 1933 – June 25, 2005
Glenn Cunningham, 72, of New Castle, formerly of Knightstown, died Saturday, June 25, at his residence. He was born April 25, 1933, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, son of the late Baron and Elsie Cunningham.
Mr. Cunningham received his B.A. and M.A. from Ball State University. He served as a teacher and principal for the Hagerstown, Rushville and Knightstown school systems. As an educator, Mr. Cunningham positively influenced those he taught and mentored. His personal educational philosophy was to teach students, not subjects.
Mr. Cunningham also served as both the interim and full-time minister for several area churches over the past 48 years. He served the Switz City Christian Church, the Wilkinson Church of Christ, the New Castle Church of Christ, the Kennard Christian Church, the Greenfield Church of Christ, the Rushville Church of Christ and other surrounding Christian churches. He was instrumental in starting the New Castle Church of Christ and was a member of the church upon his death. As a minister, Mr. Cunningham believed that the church’s first goal was to save souls.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Roberta Cunningham; two daughters, Susie (husband Chuck) Sechrest of McCordsville and Cathy (husband Dean) Shinabarger of Portage, Mich.; two grandsons, Casey and Jack Shinabarger; and a sister, Lois Wallace of Martins Ferry, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cunningham was preceded in death by his brother Ray Cunningham.
A memorial service will be held at the South 11th Street Church of Christ on Friday, July 1 at 11 a.m., with Rod Beheler officiating and Duane Gunn and Larry Carmony assisting.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the 11th Street New Castle Church of Christ or the Henry County Hospice Service.
