Howard Coffman

Howard Coffman, 82, of Knightstown, died Saturday, May 28, at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born February 14, 1923, son of the late Wesley and Lora (Livesey) Coffman.
Mr. Coffman was a life-long resident of Knightstown. He was a graduate of Mays High School, distinguished as having never missed a day of school from elementary through high school. Mr. Coffman was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII. He was a member of the Knightstown American Legion Post #152 and 40/8, a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge #16, past president of the Henry County Shrine, a member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter Association, past chief of the Knightstown Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Knightstown Auxiliary and Civil Defense Police Departments, and a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Mr. Coffman had also served on the Henry County Park Board. He was an avid Indiana University basketball fan and enjoyed all Knightstown sports.
Mr. Coffman was a local State Farm Insurance agent for 42 years. He also had been employed by National Coaches in Knightstown and was the owner of the Knightstown Bowling Alley.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jackie (Jackson) Coffman; three daughters, Debbie (husband Rusty) Johnson, Brenda (husband Pat) Smoot, and Lori (husband Donny) Martin, all of Knightstown; seven grandchildren, Amanda Johnson, Hilary Johnson, Wes (wife Ashley) Smoot, Sarah Smoot, Tyler Smoot, Matt Martin and Drew Martin; two great-grandchildren, Makaley Smoot and Kinsley Smoot; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Coffman was preceded in death by three brothers, Burton, Lloyd and Herman Coffman; and two sisters, Thelma Delay and Frances Terhune.
Funeral services will be held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral service, Knightstown Chapel, Thursday, June 2, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the Knightstown American Legion.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Masonic services will be performed Wednesday, June 1, at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock County Hospice, Shriners Hospital for Children or the Knightstown Public Library. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Mattie M. Stevens

Mattie M. Stevens, 86, of Cambridge City, died Saturday, May 28, at Reid Hospital and Health Care Services, Richmond, following a brief illness. She was born January 7, 1919, in Laurel County, Ky., daughter of the late Benjaman and Emma (Locke) Phillips.
Mrs. Stevens graduated from Brownsville High School in 1939. She had been employed by Ralphs Chuckwagons, Inc., in Dublin in the 1960s. She was a member of the Cambridge City Christian Church.
On November 23, 1945, she married Kenneth Stevens, and he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Shirley Elliott of Knightstown and Darlene (husband David) Wilson of Kokomo; three brothers, Joseph Phillips of Centerville, James (wife Sandy) Phillips of Hamilton, Ohio and Alva (wife Janice) Phillips of Peru; two sisters, Gertrude Carter of Liberty and Bonnie Scott of Brownsville; two grandchildren, Scott Wilson of Kokomo and Andrea Elliott of Noblesville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Henry, Ben and Everett Phillips, and a son-in-law, William Elliott.
Funeral services were held at the Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel, Cambridge City, Wednesday, June 1 at 11 a.m., with Tracy Wright officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, May 31, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Roy Eugene DeBruler

Roy Eugene DeBruler, 67, of Spiceland, died Saturday, June 4, at his residence. He was born July 5, 1937, in Straughn, son of the late Roy Raymond and Mary Esther (Alcorn) DeBruler.
Mr. DeBruler was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School in Cambridge City. He served in the United States Army and was honorable discharged on July 1, 1962. He worked as a custodian and maintenance man for the South Henry School Corporation at the Spiceland Elementary School for 29 years. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Mr. DeBruler married Geneva Combs in Connersville on December 26, 1973, and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Esther Shaneyfelt of Salamonia, Ind. and Sharon Evans of Johnston, R.I.; four stepdaughters; one stepson; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose Mary Phillips of Richmond; two nieces; one nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. DeBruler was preceded in death by an infant son, Kenneth Eugene in 1961.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 9, at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel, Lewisville. Burial will follow in the Circle Grove Cemetery, Spiceland.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 8, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Rua T. Potts

Mrs. Rua T. Potts, 90, of Spiceland, died Wednesday, June 1, at the Heritage House Nursing Home, New Castle. She was born April 26, 1915 in Rushville, daughter of the late Harry Trabue and Leora (Lloyd) Trabue.
Mrs. Potts was a 1932 Spiceland High School graduate. She had worked at Draper Shade for 32 years and with the U.S. Post Office for 12 ½ years before retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Spiceland Methodist Church, the 50 Plus Club, the Rebecca Lodge, the Daughters of the American Revolution and a former member of the Pythian Sisters.
Mrs. Potts is survived by two stepdaughters, Eunice Mae Shambaugh of Greenfield and Marcele Davinport of Pendleton; two sisters, Shirlee Bupp of Indianapolis and Margery Fink of Calif.; 11 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; several step-great-great-grandchildren; and Vicky Orr, special caregiver, of Spiceland.
She married James B. Potts on August 19, 1973, and he preceded her in death in 1986. One stepson and one brother also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at Todd Funeral Home, Knightstown, Friday, June 3 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Brian Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 2, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel.
Trudy V. Welsh

Trudy V. Welsh, 86, of Knightstown, died Wednesday, June 1, at the family farm in rural Knightstown. She was born May 30, 1919 in Jamestown, Tenn., daughter of the late Buck and LeeAnna (Smith) Wright.
Mrs. Welsh was a 1937 graduate of New Castle High School. A lifelong homemaker, she had resided in rural Knightstown for 62 years. She was a member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Welsh was a prize-wining pie baker and an avid quilter and sewer.
Survivors include two sons, Larry (wife Sue) Welsh of Knightstown and Steve (wife Nanette) Welsh of Dunreith; two daughters, Janet (husband George) Brown of Knightstown and Becky (husband Larry) Reece of Henderson, Nev.; 11 grandchildren, Janna Turner, Ray Sharp, Shelly Kline, Todd Sharp, Julie Caudill, Tim Welsh, Tom Welsh, Jane Lichtsinn, Ann Jones, Bryce Welsh and Chase Welsh; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Billie Jo Wilson of New Castle and Gladys DeCoursey of Cumming, Ga.
Mrs. Welsh was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Virgil Welsh, in 2001.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4, at the Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson, with Steve Brackney officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Friday, June 3.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Memorial Hospital Foundation-Hospice Unit.
Myrtle Evelyn Ramsey

Myrtle Evelyn Ramsey, 82, a resident of Shirley, died Monday, June 6, at Hancock Memorial Hospital. She was born April 17, 1923, in Greenfield, the daughter of the late Bert and Flossie (Whitecotton) Reger.
Mrs. Ramsey had worked in the laundry business for 10 years.
Survivors include three daughters, Carol (husband Charles) Lowe of Lake Wales, Fla., Judy (husband Mark) Canaday of Leesburg and Mary Lefforge of Shirley; a son, Ronald Ramsey of Shelbyville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty McCurdy of Lebanon and Juanita Dizzgle of Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ramsey was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Pop Ramsey.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, near Carthage.
Harold L. Gulley

Harold L. Gulley, 53, of Knightstown, died at his home, Sunday, June 5. He was born June 25, 1951, in Harris, Ky., son of Evelyn (Eullett) Gulley and the late John Gulley.
Mr. Gulley had been employed at Rice Ford in Knightstown for 30 years and was presently employed at Ryobi in Shelbyville. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time at Mt. Lawn and Anderson Speedways.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Gulley of Knightstown; his ex-wife, Marcy Gulley of Raysville; two sons, John Michael and Jeremy Gulley, both of Raysville; four brothers, Richard A. Gulley of Carthage, Gary W. Gulley of Spiceland, Ronald D. Gulley of Straughn and Plummer G. Gulley of Knightstown; five sisters, Christine Overman, Judy K. Gulley, Wanda F. Pope, Leanna Gurley and Ruthann Martin, all of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Mr. Gulley was preceded in death by an infant brother, John Allen Gulley.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 9, at 10 a.m., at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens, New Castle.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
