Irene Vandenbark

Irene Vandenbark, 94, a resident of Wilkinson, died Sunday, May 1, at Hancock Memorial Hospital, Greenfield. She was born September 30, 1910, in Waldron, daughter of the late Walter and Flo Bailey.
Mrs. Vandenbark and her husband, Robert, were lifelong farmers in the Wilkinson area. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed gardening, needlework and cooking.
Survivors include a son, Walter (wife Suzan) Vandenbark of Wilkinson; two granddaughters, Shirley (husband John) Mascoe of Wilkinson, and Stephanie (husband Kirt) Fuchs of Wilkinson; a grandson, Gary (wife Tina) Vandenbark of Wilkinson; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
Mrs. Vandenbark was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Vandenbark, and a sister, Dora Hatton.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 4, 10 a.m., at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson, with Jeff Mair officiating. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, May 3.

Sandra F. Brooks
Feb. 4, 1942 – Apr. 27, 2005
Sandra F. Brooks, 63, of New Castle, died Wednesday, April 27, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, following an extended illness. She was born February 4, 1942 in New Castle, daughter of Anna (Taylor) Sipes Rickard and the late Willard Sipes.
Mrs. Brooks was a licensed beautician and owned and operated a beauty shop in New Castle until 1972. She was also a homemaker and enjoyed painting ceramics.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Brooks is survived by her husband of 33 years, James G. Brooks of New Castle; two sons, Christopher G. Brooks of New Castle, and Paul M. (wife Julie) Souder of Carthage; a grandson, Jared M. Souder of Carthage; a brother Michael Sipes of Alexandria; two sisters, Viqtoria Anna Rickard of New Castle, and Leslie (husband Marvin) McCullum of Mt. Summit; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her father, Willard Sipes.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30, at Main and Frame Funeral Home, New Castle, with Rev. Warren Ingle officiating. Burial followed at Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation was held prior to the service at the funeral home.

Robert F. Bowman
Apr. 7, 149 – Apr. 25, 2005
Robert F. Bowman, 56, of Greenfield, died Monday, April 25, at Regency Place Healthcare in Greenfield. He was born April 7, 1949 in New Castle, son of James and Miriam (White) Bowman of Greenfield.
Mr. Bowman was a 1967 graduate of Eastern Hancock High School and served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in Vietnam. He worked in automotive restoration and especially loved restoring high performance cars of the 1960s.
In addition to his parents, survivors include two brothers, Daniel (wife Kathy) Bowman of Greenfield, and Thomas Bowman of Nineveh, Ind.; a niece; and three nephews.
A nephew preceded Mr. Bowman in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 29, at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson. Burial followed in McCray Cemetery with military graveside services.
Visitation was held at the funeral home, Thursday, April 28.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or WFYI, channel 20.
Lillian Viola Ryan
Mar. 11,1914 – Apr. 26, 2005
Lillian Viola Ryan, 91, of Freelandville, Ind., died Tuesday, April 26, at Freelandville Community Home. She was a former resident of Rush County. She was born March 11, 1914 in Ging, Ind., daughter of the late Nathan Carney Gardner and Flora Emma Woliung.
Mrs. Ryan graduated from Rushville High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Freelandville Christian Church.
Survivors include daughters, Charlene Ryan of New York, N.Y., Drema Huston of Anderson, Kathy Keeling of Santiago, Chile, and Pamela Kixmiller of Freelandville, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ryan was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Ryan in 1981, and one sister and one brother.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 29, at Center Christian Church, Mays. Burial followed in Center Cemetery, Mays. McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Bicknell, Ind., was in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation was held at the church prior to the service.

Mrs. Elizabeth M. Addison
May 5, 1923 – Apr. 3, 2005
Mrs. Elizabeth M. Addison, 81, of Carthage, died Saturday, April 30, at Hancock Memorial
Hospital, Greenfield. She was born May 5, 1923, in Alexandria, daughter of the late Emil and Hatte (Heddrick) Hitchens.
Mrs. Addison retired as a nurse’s aide in Anderson. She was a member of Ovid Community Church, Anderson.
Survivors include two sons, Edmond (wife Diana) Smock of Ft. Wayne, and Boyde (wife Dawn) Duncan of Carthage; five daughters, Carmelia (husband Bill) Downs of Anderson, Sandy (husband Raymond) Fox of Pendleton, Flora Smock of Richmond, Doris (husband Larry) Whithurst of Anderson, and Anita (husband Dale) Bell of Elwood; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Addison was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Addison; one son; three brothers; and three sisters.
A private service for the family was held Wednesday, May 4, at Todd Funeral Home, Knightstown, with Rev. Keith Wooden officiating. Burial followed at Friends Church Cemetery.
Barbara (Frazier) Hope
Mar. 2, 1945 – May 2, 2005
Barbara Hope (Frazier), 60, of McCordsville, died Monday, May 2, at Wildwood Healthcare Center, Indianapolis, following an extended illness. She was born March 2, 1945 in Knightstown, daughter of the late Wilbur and Lois (Archey) Frazier.
Mrs. Hope retired from Delphi Delco-Remy Corp. of Anderson in 2002 after 27 years of service. During that time, she was transferred to El Paso, Texas while working for the Delphi Corp. in Cd. Juarez, Mexico. She had also been employed at Delta Tau Delta as a receptionist since 2004. She was a member of the Knightstown Christian Church and past president of the Mental Health Association of Anderson. Mrs. Hope was the first female African-American Deputy Sheriff in Madison County. She was an avid Indiana Pacer fan and Indy Car racing enthusiast and loved spending time with her grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include a son, Kyle (wife Yadira) Hope of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Bailey, Kelsy and Bryan Hope, all of Indianapolis; a sister, Wanda Smith of Indianapolis; two nieces, Lisa (husband William) Thomas, and Natalie Shaw, both of Indianapolis; three great-nieces, Andrea and Shayla Thomas and Chanteil Bradley, all of Indianapolis; two great-nephews, Billy and Marcus Thomas of Indianapolis; one great-great nephew, Tejauhn Thomas; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, May 7, 10:30 a.m., at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with Seminarian Chris Wadelton officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Friday, May 6, at the funeral home. A Rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Russell Ray “Bucky” Cronk
Feb. 18, 1923 – May 4, 2005
Russell Ray “Bucky” Cronk, 82, of New Castle, died Wednesday, May 4, at Henry County Memorial Hospital. He was born February 18, 1923, in Henry County, son of the late George Thomas and Ruth M. (McLain) Cronk.
Mr. Cronk was a graduate of Cadiz High School. While in high school, he loved playing baseball and basketball. He was a longtime farmer and cattle breeder in Henry County. Mr. Cronk was a member of Eagles Lodge F.O.E. #933 and Kennard Lions Club. He was owner of Liquid Fertilizers, Inc. He was a supporter of the Henry County 4-H Clubs.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Anna May (Houk) Cronk whom he married September 27, 1942; daughter, Tina (husband Larry) Fowler of New Castle; granddaughter, Kim (husband David) Walls; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Nicole and Joshua of Monticello, Ind.; great-great-grandson, Brysen Saunders; grandson, Paul Fowler; great-grandchildren, Haley and Mackenzie Fowler; daughter, Debra (husband Billy) Ratliff; granddaughter, Amy Thompson; great-granddaughter, Alexis Thompson; grandson, Brian (wife Wendi) Ratliff; great-grandson, Clayton Ratliff; grandson, Bradley (wife Angela) Ratliff; grandson, Brett (wife Annie) Ratliff; great-grandson, Eli Ratliff; son, Mark T. (wife Nancy) Cronk of Knightstown, formerly of Hagerstown; grandson, Russell D. (wife Rhonda) Cronk; great-grandchildren, Cody and Shawna Cronk; grandson Ryan Cronk; great-granddaughter, Avery; granddaughters, Kylene (husband Chuck) Cheeseman and Natalie Cronk; grandson, Dustin Cronk; sister, Mary Losh of Muncie; niece Vickie; nephew, Steve Losh; brother, Jack (wife Barbara) Cronk; nephews, Kim (wife Nyla) Cronk and Jay (wife Kim) Cronk; nephews, Max, Leland and Thad Loudenback; niece Sue Ann (husband Alan) Davis of New Castle; sister-in-law, Lillian Bailey.
Mr. Cronk was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Loudenback.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 9, at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home, Sunday, May 3.
