Betty Ruth Masters

Betty Ruth Masters, 81, a resident of Greenfield and former resident of Wilkinson, died Thursday, April 7 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born April 1, 1924 in Warrington, a daughter of the late R.D. and Ethel (McCorkle) Masters.
Ms. Masters worked at National Tile in Anderson and retired from East Side Screw Products in Greenfield in 1989. She had worked there for 22 years. She was a member of the Wilkinson Church of Christ.
Survivors include a brother, Jerry (wife Doris) Masters of Wilkinson; two sisters, Martha Zornes of Markleville and Catherine (husband Steve) Barkdull of Pendleton; and several nieces and nephews.
Ms. Masters was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Masters in 1930, Maurice Masters in 1989, Larry Masters in 1999 and William Masters in 2004; three sisters, Anna Masters in 1936, Mary McClarnon in 1986, and Iola Batson in 1991.
Graveside funeral services were held in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson, Monday, April 11, with Rev. Larry Barkdull officiating.
Visitation was at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson, Sunday, April 10.
Lowell E. Stoten
Feb. 22, 1922 – Apr. 7, 2005
Lowell E. Stoten, 83, of Knightstown, died Thursday, April 7 at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis. He was born February 22, 1922 in Rush County, son of the late J. Marion and Ruby (Oldham) Stoten.
Mr. Stoten was a 1940 graduate of Mays High School. He worked for Allison Division of General Motors before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in WWII from 1944-1946 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Mr. Stoten was the Rush County surveyor for over 30 years. He worked with the Soil Conservation Service and the Rush County SWCD in the 1960s. Mr. Stoten also farmed for several years. He was a long time member of Center Christian Church where he served as treasurer, deacon, trustee and usher. He was a life member of American Legion Post 152, an associate member of the FOP in Rush County, and an associate member of the Rush County Sheriff’s Association.
Survivors include a son, Jack L. Stoten of Rush County; a daughter, Jean A. (husband Larry) John of Shelby County; a brother, Wendell M. (wife Evelyn) Stoten of Henry County; two granddaughters, Julie (husband Ted) McMichael of Greenfield and Leslie Stoten of Rush County; a grandson, Scott (Becky) Morgan of Indianapolis; two great grandchildren, Carie and Ross McMichael of Greenfield; two nieces and one great nephew of Henry County.
Mr. Stoten married Charlene R. Fortner on November 1, 1941 and she preceded him in death in 2003. Also preceding him in death were his parents and an infant sister.
The funeral was held at Moster & Cox Mortuary on Monday, April 11, with Bill Worrell officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery. Military graveside services were observed.
Visitation was held Sunday, April 10, at the funeral home.

Reitz L. Sanders
Mar. 12, 1940 – Apr. 7, 2005
Reitz L. Sanders, 65, of Oxford, Ind., died Thursday, April 7 in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette following an extended illness. He was born March 12, 1940 in Illinois, son of the late Lewis and Gladys (Gorman) Sanders.
Mr. Sanders was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served as a paratrooper. He loved to fish and was a general handyman.
Survivors include a daughter, Brittany Sanders of Fowler, Ind.; a granddaughter, Madison Rodriguez of Fowler; three sisters, Mary (husband Joe) Jack of Greenfield, Donna Kellar of Lafayette, Ann (husband John) Nail of Indianapolis; three brothers, Jerry (wife Geneva) Sanders of Carthage, Bud (wife Iila) Sanders of Lafayette, Chuck (wife Vicki) Rhodes of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Sanders in 1991, and a niece, Barbara Kellar.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 10, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Burial followed at Carthage Cemetery. Visitation was at the funeral home prior to the service.
Annie “Grace” Thompson
Jan. 31, 1914 – Apr. 6, 2005
Annie “Grace” Thompson, 91, of Knightstown, died Wednesday, April 6, at Hancock Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born January 31, 1914, a daughter of the late Walter Samuel and Nancy Jane (Jackson) Goodwin.
Ms. Thompson attended school in Muses Mills, Ky. A homemaker, she was a member of Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church in Knightstown.
Survivors include two daughters, Loretta (husband Don) Dudley and Beverly (husband Peter) McComiskey, both of Knightstown; four sons, Leo (wife Sandi) Thompson, Ralph (wife Clarice) Thompson, both of Knightstown, Lewis (wife Nancy) Thompson of Spiceland and Gene (wife Gaye) Thompson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three sisters, Dessa Morgan, Lena Caudill and Goldie Jackson; two brothers, George and Clarence Goodwin; 12 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.
Ms. Thompson’s husband of 50 years, Kelly Thompson, predeceased her in 1986. Also preceding her in death were a brother, Oral Goodwin, a twin brother who died in infancy, and one step great great grandson.
Services were held Monday, April 11, at Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church with Brother Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held Sunday, April 10, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel.

Daisy B. Richmond Pendlum
Aug. 19, 1921 – Apr. 7, 2005
Daisy B. Richmond Pendlum, 83, of Greenfield, died Thursday, April 7, at her home. She was born August 19, 1921 in Lewis County, Ky., a daughter of the late Stanton and Beulah (Howard) Richmond.
Ms. Pendlum worked for Indiana Knitwear and retired from RCA in Indianapolis in 1980. She was a member of Greenfield Church of God and attended Greenfield First Assembly of God.
She married Orville Pendlum February 1, 1937, and he survives. Also surviving are three sons, Jerry (wife Nina) Pendlum of Athens, Ala., Mitchell (wife Carol) Pendlum of Greenfield, and Roger Ray (wife Cindy) Pendlum; two daughters, Nadine (husband Carl) Spence of Knightstown, and Marlene (husband Jim) Woodcock of Greenfield; two brothers, Kermit Richmond of Olive Hill, Ky. and Dale Richmond of Emerson, Ky.; three sisters, Lorene Bryant of Knightstown, Kathryn Skidmore of Emerson, Ky., and Doni Pierce of Maysville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Pendlum, sisters, Faye Back and Audrey LaVallee, and a brother, Carlos Richmond.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 11, at Greenfield Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Jim Morris officiating. Burial followed at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
Visitation was held at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield, Sunday, April 10.

Ruth J. Williams
Mar. 6, 1922 – Mar. 2, 2005
Ruth J. Williams, 82, a resident of Franklin and a former resident of Knightstown, died Wednesday, March 2 at Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. She was born March 6, 1922 in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Laurence and Harriet (Paulus) Goodwin.
Ms. Williams attended high school in Webster. She was employed as a dental assistant and later was a co-owner in the industrial tools industry with her husband. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald L. Williams of Fishers, Thomas D. Williams of Indianapolis and Richard E. Williams of Williamston, Mich.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Ms. Williams married Frank Whitter Williams December 11, 1943 and he preceded her in death March 24, 2004. A sister also preceded her in death.
A memorial service was conducted at Ransford Chapel at Indiana Masonic Home with Rev. Cleon Wright officiating. A service by the DAR was also conducted. Burial followed in West Point Cemetery in Liberty. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Marilyn Stoten Stanley
Oct. 24, 1931 – Apr. 8, 2005
Marilyn Stoten Stanley, 73, of Fayetteville, N.C., died Friday, April 8, following an extended illness. She was born October 24, 1931 in Knightstown, daughter of the late Wallace and Lavona (Ruby) Stoten.
Ms. Stanley was a 34-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed writing poetry.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John Head Stanley; two sons, Mike (wife Nancy) Stanley of St. Louis, Mo., and Pat (wife Tina) Stanley of Williamsburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Ryan and Andrew Stanley, both of St. Louis, Mo., Tabitha and Brandon Stanley, both of Williamsburg, Va.; and one brother, Glenn (wife Carolyn) Stoten of Knightstown.
In addition to her parents, two brothers, Merrill Stoten and Howard Stoten preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Rev. Carolyn Stoten will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
