William E. Hampton

Wiliam E. Hampton, 60, a resident of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Knightstown, died Friday, March 25 at his home. He was born December 11, 1944 in New Castle, the son of the late Merle and Irene (Anderson) Hampton.
Mr. Hampton retired in 2001 from Chrysler Corporation in New Castle, after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Viet Nam. He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Coral, Fla. Mr. Hampton enjoyed boating.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Kemerly) Hampton, whom he married on June 13, 1994; five children, Lola (husband Tim) Stout, Jamie (husband Randy) Rogers, all of Bloomington, Sheryl Zins of Bangor, Maine, Joshua (wife Christina) Hampton of Arlington and Jody Hampton of Knightstown; two stepsons, Todd (wife Tausha) Hill of New Castle and Rob Hill of Ft. Myers, Fla., and ten grandchildren.
Services were held March 30, 1:30 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown with graveside services conducted by the American Legion.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 29 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s International, Riley Children’s Hospital or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Kenneth L. Oldham
Sept. 27, 1924 – Apr. 3, 2005
Kenneth L. Oldham, 80, died April 3 at Millers Merry Manor, Rushville. A life-long Rush County resident, he was born September 27, 1924, a son of the late Ralph and Blanche (Lamberson) Oldham.
Mr. Oldham was a farmer. He graduated from Mays High School in 1942, serving as senior class president. He was a 4-H leader and a member of the Rush County Farm Bureau Band. He was the first host of the WRCR “Farm & Field Day.” Mr. Oldham was a member of the Center Christian Church, where he sang in a quartet. He was a 50-year member of the Spiceland Masonic Lodge. He had served there as a Worshipful Master.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey (Pickering ) Oldham who he married on August 17, 1946; two sons, Edward James Oldham of McMinnville, Tenn. and Kent Oldham of Fairfield, Ohio; a daughter, Nancy (husband Jason) Sherman of Indianapolis; two brothers, Maurice (wife Maxine) Oldham of Indianapolis and Byron (wife Ruth) Oldham of Rushville; two granddaughters, Christina Oldham of Tenn. and Lauren Elizabeth Oldham of Ohio; three grandsons, Kenneth Edward Oldham, Christopher James Oldham and James Lee Oldham, all of Tenn.; one great grandson, Logan; and several cousins.
The funeral will be held at Center Christian Church on Thursday, April 7 at 10 a.m., with Steve Abernathy and Bill Worrell officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Rush County, with Moster & Cox Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Visitation was Wednesday, April 9 from 4-8 p.m. at Moster & Cox Mortuary, with Masonic Services.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Rush County 4-H or the Mays Scholarship Fund.
Melvin E. Adams
Apr. 9, 1921 – Mar. 28, 2005
Melvin E. Adams, 83, of Rushville, died on March 28 at Morristown Manor in Morristown. He was born April 9, 1921 in Rush County, the son of the late Charles and Hazel (McBride) Adams.
Mr. Adams was a farmer. He was a member of the Center Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served in Sicily, Naples, Rome, Rhineland, France and Central Europe. Mr. Adams was awarded six bronze stars.
Survivors include one son, Bruce E. (wife Sally) Adams of Taylorville, Ill.; one daughter, Joyce (husband Earl) Dollarhide of Rushville; one sister, Josephine Kellam of Fortville; five grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.
Mr. Adams married Betty Sturwold in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1996.
The funeral service was held Friday, April 1 at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Matthew Lee officiating. Burial followed at Center Christian Church Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites.
Visitation was at the funeral home before the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Norma Katherine Rennick
Aug. 23, 1926 – Apr. 4, 2005
Norma Katherine Rennick, 78, a resident of rural Willow Branch, died Monday, April 4 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. She was born August 23, 1926 in Center Point, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Fischer) Fatch.
Ms. Rennick retired as postmaster of the Willow Branch post office. She was a member of the Willow Branch United Methodist Church and Country Harmony Homemakers Club of Hancock County.
Survivors include her husband, Rudy Rennick of rural Willow Branch; two daughters, Janet (husband Stan) Copple of Fountaintown, and Lora (husband Tim) McGrath of Indianapolis; one brother, Karlin Fatch of Indianapolis; a sister, Joan Youngblood of Center Point; three grandsons, John, Cody and Dillon McGrath.
Ms. Rennick was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Fatch and one sister, Pauline Keiser.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7 at 10 a.m. in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson, with Pastor Owen Youngblood and Pastor Les Comer officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery in Center Point.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 6 from 4-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent Hospice or the Willow Branch United Methodist Church.
Mary Evelyn Lee
Sept. 4, 1921 – Mar. 28, 2005
Mary Evelyn Lee, 83, of Knightstown, died March 28 in Hancock Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born September 4, 1921 in Byrdstown, Tenn., a daughter of the late Willis E. and Rebecca Ann (Mullins) Lee.
Ms. Lee retired from RCA in Indianapolis. She was a member of the Knightstown Church of God where she served as a Sunday School teacher for several years. She was a member of the Willing Workers Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sisters, Alma Stockton and Willie Thompson, both of Knightstown; one brother, Lewis Reed Lee of Knightstown; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ida Lee, Ella Claborn and Rebecca Hamlin; five brothers, Haskel Lee, Clayton Lee, Raymond Lee, George Lee and Tom Lee.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 1 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown Chapel, with Rev. Early Hall officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, March 31 at the Knightstown Chapel.
Melvin Wayne McCorkle
Feb. 23, 1934 – Apr. 2, 2005
Melvin Wayne McCorkle, 71, of Carthage, died Saturday, April 2 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born February 23, 1934 in Carthage, son of the late Wilbur and Flossie (Donoho) McCorkle.
Mr. McCorkle was a 1954 graduate of Carthage High School. He served in the U.S. Army and the Naval Reserve. He retired as a maintenance superintendent at Container Corp. America. Mr. McCorkle was a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage. He was also a member of Masonic Rush Lodge #580, Eagles Lodge in Rushville and the Rushville American Legion.
Mr. McCorkle married Carolyn Masters December 20, 1975, and she survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Lisa McCorkle and Robin (husband Bob) Stanfield, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Susan Crowe and Lisa (husband Todd) Roberts, both of Carthage; three sons, Mark (wife Gail) Koors of Westport, Michael (wife Ann) Koors, and Chris (wife Karen) Koors, both of Greensburg; one brother, Norman (wife Mary Lou) McCorkle; 12 grandchildren; two aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, April 6 at Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel, with the Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial followed in Carthage Town Cemetery.
Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home with a Masonic Service.
Minnie Kathryn Lowder
July 21, 1933 – Apr. 6, 2005
Minnie Kathryn Lowder, 71, a resident of rural Shirley, died at her residence Wednesday, April 6, following an extended illness. She was born July 21, 1933 in Madison County, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Bertha Irene (Lough) McIntyre.
Ms. Lowder graduated from Markleville High School and attended Anderson University. She worked in the office of the Guide Lamp Division of General Motors Corporation in Anderson. She also helped her husband farm and raise livestock. She retired from driving a school bus in December 2000. She was an avid gardener and genealogist, and loved music, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, James Robert Lowder of rural Shirley; a daughter, Vicki L. (husband Barry) Gray of Kennard; a twin brother, F. Keith (wife Joan) McIntyre of Arizona; a brother, Charles A. (companion Joanna Boze) McIntyre of Florida; a sister, Ruth Ellen (husband John) Cook of Anderson; two granddaughters, Heather Ann (husband Travis) Null of Greenfield and Marlaina Rene (companion Tim Howard) Gray of Shirley; four great grandchildren, Samantha Lynn Parmley, Allison Marie Boone, Trevor Paul Null, James Thomas Free Maynard; one step great grandchild, Joseph Evan Boone; and extended family member, Joe Boone of Cicero; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Lowder was preceded in death by an infant sister, Gloria Fern McIntyre; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Helen and John Crusmire; and an extended family member, Brenda Boone.
Services were held at Condo & Son Funeral Home, Wilkinson, Monday, April 9, with Pastor Lawrence Smith officiating. Burial followed in Harlan Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Visitation was held at the funeral home prior to the service.
