Jack Ray Steward
Fe. 4, 1944 – Mar. 9, 2005
Jack Ray Steward, 61, of Okeechobee, Fla., died Wednesday, March 9, 2005. He was born February 4, 1944 in Carthage, son of the late Forest M. Steward and Bertha Steward.
Mr. Steward was a member and pilgrim of the Moose Lodge and Am Vets. He served as a furrier for 12 years and enjoyed competing in horseshoe tournaments.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Wade Steward of Okeechobee, Fla.; his mother Bertha Steward of Carthage; son Vince (wife Victoria) Shumaker of Greenfield; step-son Sean Wade of Okeechobee, Fla., two grandchildren; sisters Virginia Davis, Alice (husband Charles) Baker, Violet Clay, Carol Smith; brothers Marion (wife Dorothy) Steward, Albert (wife Shirley) Steward, Floyd (wife Sharon) Steward.
Mr. Steward was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law.
A memorial service was held on March 19 at the Carthage New Life Wesleyan Church, Carthage. Todd Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Nedra Mae Sumner Brammer
July 21, 1921 - Mar. 2, 2005
Nedra Mae Sumner Brammer, 83, formerly of Knightstown, died in Greenfield on March 21, 2005. She was born on July 21, 1921, in Havensville, Kan., a daughter of the late Russell and Cora Sumner.
Mrs. Brammer was a retired cafeteria manager for Brookview and Grassy Creek Elementary Schools in Warren Township, having worked there for 35 years. Previously, she taught K-12 in Kansas for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda D. Brammer Mahan of Indianapolis and a brother, Leo Sumner of Havensville, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. “Johnny” Brammer; two brothers Glenn Sumner and Dale Sumner; and a sister Annabel Schneider.
Services for Mrs. Brammer will be held on Friday, March 25 at 11 a.m. at Flanner & Buchanan Lawrence Funeral Center. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 24 from 4-8 p.a. at Flanner & Buchanan Lawrence Funeral Center, 5215 N. Shadeland Ave., Lawrence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Wilbur Pete Kirkpatrick
Jan. 4, 1916 – Mar. 19, 005
Wilbur Pete Kirkpatrick, 89, a resident of Monticello, formerly of Middletown, died Saturday, March 19 at White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born on January 4, 1916, the son of the late Orman and Ida (Addison) Kirkpatrick.
Mr. Kirkpatrick served in the U.S. Army during WWII in China, Burma and India as a 1st Lieutenant pilot in the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member and past master of Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge #392, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 110 in Middletown. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, a 50-year member of the Shrine Murat Temple, a member of Monticello Moose Lodge #906 and Ray Gibbons Legion of the Moose #77. He was a holder of the Pilgrim Degree of the Moose and former president of the Indiana Moose Association.
Survivors include a son, Michael (wife Stevie) Kirkpatrick of Pendleton; a daughter, Patricia Morgan of Texas; a stepdaughter, Charlene Silcox of Kokomo; a brother, George (wife Gloria) Kirkpatrick of Middletown; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bonnie Swaim of Monticello.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was preceded in death by his first wife, Crystabell (Fleming) Kirkpatrick in 1943; his second wife, Imogene (Leach) Kirkpatrick in 1996; and two sisters, Dorothy Brown and Jane Burgess.
Visitation was Monday, March 21 at Fisher Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello with Moose Pilgrim services. Visitation was also held on Tuesday, March 22 at Condo & son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Eastern Star and Masonic Services. Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 23 at Condo & Son, Wilkinson. Burial followed at Miller Cemetery in Middletown with Military and Masonic services.
Delbert S. Maxwell
Mar 6, 1938 – Mar. 25, 2005
Delbert S. Maxwell, 67, a resident of rural Wilkinson, died at his home Friday, March 25, 2005. He was born March 6, 1937, a son of the late Chester and Madge (Muncy) Maxwell.
Mr. Maxwell graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
He retired from Guide Lamp, a division of General Motors in Anderson. He was a member of the Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church and a member of the Anderson chapter of TOPS.
Mr. Maxwell is survived by his sister, Rema Maxwell of Wilkinson and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Ralph Maxwell and James Maxwell, and one sister, Bessie Harrison Bronnenburg.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 29 at Condo & Son Funeral Home with Jeff Mair officiating. Burial followed at Harlan Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church.
Donald E. Younts, Sr.
Mar. 6, 1932 – Oct. 17, 2004
Donald E. Younts, Sr., 72, of Orange Park, Fla., died on October 17, 2004 following a car accident. He was born in New Castle on March 6, 1932, a son of Clifford and Ruth (Mackey) Younts.
Mr. Younts graduated from Knightstown High School in 1951. In high school, he was class president and was active on the basketball and track teams. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years, retiring as a SMSGT. He retired as an accountant from NADEP, NAS, Jacksonville, Fla. in 1990. He also owned an antique business.
Mr. Younts is survived by his wife of 27 years, Christie Younts; two sisters, Betty Wood of Fla. and Hyacinth Kern of Tenn.; one brother, John (wife Jody) Younts of Ind.; six children Don II (wife Pat) Younts of Ohio, Douglas Younts of Ohio, David (wife Cherese) Younts of N.C., Dan (wife Wendy) Younts of Texas, Nancy Younts of Fla. and Melanie (husband Don) Flack of Fla.; nine grandchildren and one great grandson.
A memorial service was held on October 29, 2004 at Christian Faith Center with Wendell Shaw officiating, Interment with full military honors will be in the new National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla. upon its opening.
William E. Heck
Mar. 20, 1923 – Mar. 23, 2005
Wiliam “Bill” E. Heck, 82, of Spiceland, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Henry County Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 20, 1923 in Lewisville, a son of the late Lawrence Heck and Margaret (Hayes) Heck.
Mr. Heck graduated from Lewisville High School in 1941. He was a decorated Army veteran on WWII, receiving the Army Occupation Medal – Germany, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European – African – Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 152 of Knightstown, the V.F.W. Post 1282 of New Castle, and a member of the Lewisville Presbyterian Church. Mr. Heck was a farmer and also retired from Draper Shade. He was an active life-long Republican, receiving the Rover Kirby Award in 1999. In 1993, on his 70th birthday, Senator Richard Lugar presented him with a U.S. flag that was flown over the Capital Building.
He married Martha Smith on August 20, 1945 and she survives. Mr. Heck is also survived by a daughter, Cheryl “Cheri” (husband Sam) Goodin of Greenfield; a son Jerry (wife Sandra) Heck of Muncie; one granddaughter Brooke Heck (husband Tim) Stover of Selma; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.
Funeral services were held on Easter Sunday, March 27 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel, Lewisville with Rev. Linda Philabaun officiating. Burial followed at Lewisville Cemetery with graveside rites by American Legion Post 152 and the V.F.W. Post 1282 of New Castle.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 26.
Nina Jo Heady
Sept. 4, 1956 – Mar. 27, 2005
Nina J Heady, 48, of Carthage died on March 27, 2005 at her residence. She was born in Rushville on September 4, 1956, a daughter of Laura Wells and the late Clyde Wells.
Mrs. Heady made thousands of children happy as the well-known “Blooper” the clown. She also donated much time of her time to charity work at Riley Hospital for Children. She was a member of Carthage Friends Church.
Survivors include her husband, Steven Heady of Michigan; her mother Laura Wells of Knightstown; a son, Naryan L. Goodwin of Knightstown; a daughter, Linda L. “Sha Sha” Perrin of Carthage; four brothers, Danny Wells of Carthage, Jimmy Wells of Indianapolis, Jerry Wells and Dean Wells, both of Knightstown; four sisters, Geneva Jones of Noblesville, Connie Tucker of Indianapolis, Becky Wells of Knightstown and Candy Wells of New Castle.
Mrs. Heady was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Wells, and a brother, Richard Wells.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31 at 2 p.m. at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, Knightstown.
Visitation will be from 12 – 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
