Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Loraine C. Short

Feb. 18, 1912 – Jan. 2, 2005

Loraine C. Short, 92, died Sunday, January 2 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in New Castle. She was born February 18, 1912 in Richmond, a daughter of the late Leslie Wasson and Stella E. (Inderstrodt) Cregar. Loraine graduated from Lincoln High School in Cambridge City with the class of 1930. She moved from Knightstown to Modoc prior to moving to New Castle in 1965. She was a member of the West River Friends Meeting in Hagerstown.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Short of New Lisbon; one daughter, Nancy Parker of Anderson; two grandsons; one granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Valley Rose Deem of Richmond and Maxine Hall of Marana, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Norman W. Cregar, preceded her in death in 1996.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 7 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin with burial to follow in South Lawn Cemetery in Dublin.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 6 and prior to the services on Friday at the funeral home.

Forest Trees

June 25, 1904 – Jan. 5, 2005

Former Warrington resident, Forest Trees, 100 years of age, died Wednesday, January 5 at Regency Place Health Care Center in Greenfield. He was born June 25, 1904 in Warrington, a son of the late Elmer E. and Laura Mae (Keller) Trees.

Mr. Trees retired from Delco Remy of Anderson and was a lifelong farmer. He was the Sexton for many years at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.

Survivors include his wife of 76 years, Edith Trees of Greenfield; a daughter, Cherrie Ann Trees of Indianapolis; a brother, Everett E. Trees of Warrington; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were two sisters, Cecile F. Harris and Eva Mae Keesling; and a brother, Russell E. Trees.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 11 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Paul Litten officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, January 10.

Helen Logan

Mar. 30, 1916 – Jan. 9, 2005

Helen Logan, 88, of Carthage died Sunday, January 9 in Rush Memorial Hospital. She was born March 30, 1916 in Triplet, Ky., a daughter of the late Clarence and Anne (Gulley) Spence.

Mrs. Logan had lived in Carthage most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Rushville Assembly of God.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernita (husband Anthony) Fouts of Lancaster, Texas and Violet (husband Donald) McColle of Carthage; a brother, Ezra (wife Nola) Spence of Carthage; three sisters, Lola Jones and Audrey Nolan, both of Carthage, and Olive (husband Tony) Riley of Shelbyville; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 13 in the Todd Funeral Home, Knightstown Chapel with Pastor William Beadle officiating. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 12 at the Todd Funeral Home.

George B. Everman

Nov. 11, 1914 – Jan. 7, 2005

Anderson resident, George B. Everman, 90, died Friday, January 7 at Community Hospital of Anderson. He was born November 11, 1914 in Verdin, Ky., a son of the late George W. and Susie (Pruitt) Everman.

Mr. Everman worked in the maintenance department at Nickelson File in Anderson and was a member of the Pendleton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a grandson and caregiver, Chris Everman of Anderson, granddaughter, Angela Dickson of Anderson; five great-grandchildren; five great nieces; ex-daughter-in-law and caregiver, Brenda Foreman of Anderson; special friend, Donna Roberts of Anderson and caregiver, Madonna Brewster of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Everman in 2001; two brothers, Chris and Willie Everman; three sisters, Leora Burkhart, Bertha Larson and Nellie Flenchimon.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 10 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, January 9.

Dorothy E. Lane

May 9, 1927 – Jan. 9, 2005

Charlottesville resident, Dorothy E. Lane, 77, died Sunday, January 9 in Fountaintown. She was born May 9, 1927 in Elkhart, a daughter of the late Andrew and Flossie L. (VanDusen) Zervas.

Mrs. Lane, a former resident of Indianapolis, retired in 1978 after 33 years of service from Indiana Bell Telephone. She was an avid dog lover.

Surviving are one brother, Harry A. Zervas of Beech Grove; a niece, Charla Fout of Charlottesville; and two great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lee Lane in February 1978, and a brother, John Zervas.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, January 13 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Ryan McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Dorothy P. Martin

Apr. 15, 1920 – Jan. 14, 2005

Greenfield resident, Dorothy P. Martin, 84, died Friday, January 14 in Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was born April 15, 1920 in Arlington, a daughter of the late Lee and Ruth (Brown) Silver.

Mrs. Martin, a homemaker and custodian had worked at Ball-Chatham School District in Springfield, Ill. for several years and also worked at Eli Lilly and the Rayon Factory in Greenfield. She was a member of Divernon United Methodist Church and the Hancock Co. Senior Center. She married Virgil Martin December 30, 1960 and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Powers of Charlottesville and Rowena (husband Jack) Holliday of Wilkinson; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, two brothers, Horace and Gene Silver, and one sister, Norma Trinkle preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 18 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Pastors Fred Powers and Jack Holliday officiating. Burial will be in Bush Creek Cemetery in Divernon, Ill. on Wednesday.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, January 17.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Divernon at the funeral home.

Katherine M. Derrick

Aug. 11, 1940 – Jan. 14, 2005

Katherine M. “Dolly” Derrick, 64, a resident of Greenfield, died Friday, January 14 at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel. She was born August 11, 1940 in Anderson, a daughter of the late Clarence and Thelma (DeShong) Derrick.

Mrs. Derrick had worked at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis and was a former Pendleton resident.

Surviving are two brothers, William Paul Derrick of Indianapolis and Lloyd Derrick of Kennard.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Nolan and Bobby Derrick and a sister, Eva Morris.

There will be no services. Burial will be in Mendon Cemetery. The Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pendleton Emergency Ambulance or the Shrine Crippled Children’s Association.
