Judith Ann Dugger

Judith Ann (Kennedy) Dugger, 60, of Greenfield died Tuesday, November 2 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. She was born November 12, 1943 in Rushville, a daughter of Raymond and Edna (Newsom) Kennedy.
Mrs. Dugger grew and went to high school in Carthage, graduating in 1961. She graduated from St. Louis University in 1973. The homemaker was member of the Cumberland Christian Church, Kappa Kappa Kappa, Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Greenfield Community Choir.
She first married Robert Gower Dugger who preceded her in death; she then married Gordon Glen Dugger, who survives. Other survivors include her mother, Edna Nelle Kennedy of Morristown; one daughter, Nikki Dugger of Greenfield; and a brother, Lynn Kennedy of Connersville.
Services were held Saturday, November 6 at Fletcher United Methodist Church of Carthage with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel Friday, November 5.
Memorials may be made to Fletcher United Methodist or to the American Cancer Society.
James Bradley Carter
Aug. 16, 1955 – Nov. 2, 2004
James Bradley “Brad” Carter, 49, of Knightstown, died Tuesday, November 2 at his residence. He was born August 16, 1955 in Indianapolis, a son of Abie and Nancy (Beaman) Carter.
He was a graduate of Ball State University where he worked in the library.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary A. Carter at home; his mother, Nancy J. Carter of Bargersville; his father, Abie L. Carter of LaCrosse; two aunts, Roberta Beaman of Indianapolis and Mina Wolf of LaPorte; and several cousins.
A brother, Michael L. Carter and an uncle, Jack Beaman, preceded him in death.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, November 9 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel. Visitation was held prior to the service on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Carter Scholarship Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Horace J. Wilkinson
May 30, 1913 – Nov. 13, 2004
Shirley resident, Horace J. Wilkinson, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 13 at Riverwalk Village Healthcare Center in Noblesville. He was born May 30, 1913 in Henry County, a son of the late Albert and Emma (Cronk) Wilkinson.
Mr. Wilkinson retired from Delco Remy in Anderson. He was a 50-year member and past master of the Shirley Masonic Lodge F & AM #531 and was a lifelong golfer.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (wife Anita) Wilkinson of Williamsburg, Va., and Mark (wife Cathy) Wilkinson of Noblesville; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
His wife, Wanda Wilkinson, and two sisters, Lucille Keesling and Inez Harris preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 17) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Bill Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Visitation and a Masonic service were held at the funeral home Tuesday, Nov. 16.
Mildred L. Walda
Aug. 9, 1927 – Nov. 14, 2004
Mildred L. Walda, 77, of Cumberland died Sunday, Nov. 14 in Community Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born August 9, 1927 in Johnson City, Tenn., a daughter of the late Spergeon and Goldie (Gray) Broyels.
Mrs. Walda had lived most of her life in Knightstown. She was a member of Knightstown Friends Meeting. Also, she was a homemaker and a graduate of New Castle High School.
She married Robert Walda on November 26, 1947 and he survives her. Other survivors include one son, Michael L. (wife Charlotte) Walda of Indianapolis; one daughter, Sue Nigh, Cumberland; one sister, Hilda (husband Archie) Frost of New Castle; four grandsons, Scott and Robert Nigh and Brian and Kurtis Walda; and one great-granddaughter, Brandy Walda.
One brother preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 17) at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, with Rev. Chris Sitler officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, Nov. 16.
Paul E. Edwards
Oct. 30, 1928 – Nov. 14, 2004
Carthage resident, Paul E. Edwards, 76, died Sunday, Nov. 14 at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel.
Mr. Edwards had lived most of his life in Carthage. He was superintendent at Smurfitt Stone retiring in 1993 after 47 years of service. He was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church of Carthage and graduate of Carthage High School. He also served in the U.S. Marine Reserves for four years.
He married Norma Edwards on March 17, 1949 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, Jim (wife Cathy) Edwards of Ocala, Fla. and Dan (wife Martia) Edwards of Yorktown; three brothers, Norman Edwards of Carthage, Jerry (wife Joyce) Edwards of Carthage, and Rex (wife Linda) Edwards of Greenfield; three sisters, Velma (husband Gene) Leisure and Maxine (husband Carl) Carson, both of Carthage and Dorothy (husband Bill) Robertson of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
One brother preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at Fletcher United Methodist Church of Carthage with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 17) at Fletcher United Methodist Church. Todd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fletcher United Methodist Church.
Eileen Smith
Oct. 23, 1940 – Nov. 12, 2004
Eileen Smith, 64, of Greenfield died Friday, Nov. 12 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was born Oct. 23, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Jack and Betty (Brown) Rathburn.
Mrs. Smith served as the co-director/co-teacher of the Noah’s Ark Preschool in Knightstown. She was a successful Bible Bowl sponsor and a Bible school teacher. In addition, she was an English teacher in China and an avid traveler and reader. She was a member of the Dunreith Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Kenton K. Smith; four daughters, Christine (husband David) Spence of Mainville, Ohio, Melissa Smith of Ningxia, China, Angela Smith of Campaign, Ill. And Bridgett (husband Kevin) Horan of Carthage; one sister, Pat (husband Bill) Smathers of Kirksville, Mo.; one brother, Randall Rathburn of Columbus, Ohio; and three grandchildren, David, Joshua and Rachel Spence of Mainville, Ohio.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Nov. 16 at Knightstown Christian Church with David D. Smith, Jr. officiating.
Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 15 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be given to the English Language Institute in China or the National Bible Bowl.
Elizabeth Houseman
Sept. 7, 1909 – Nov. 5, 2004
A resident of Toluca Lake and San Diego, Calif., Elizabeth Houseman, 95, died Friday, Nov. 5. She was born in Henry County Sept. 7, 1909, a daughter of the late Omer C. and Alberta Addison of Knightstown. She was a sister of the late Clarence Addison, also of Knightstown.
Mrs. Houseman was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Beck of San Diego, Calif. and Pam Griffin of Acton, Calif.; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 12 in El Camino Memorial Park in California.
