Martha Fort, 103, of Knightstown, died Sunday, January 28 at Regency Place Healthcare Center in Greenfield.
She was born Dec. 5, 1897 in Wilkinson, the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Ida B. (Young) McDaniel.
She and her husband, Russell, owned and operated Fort Montgomery Campground in Knightstown. She was a 75+-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star #492 of Shirley and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Knightstown.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise Watts of Knightstown; a grandson, Wesley (wife, Tammy) Watts of Knightstown; a great granddaughter, Jennifer Watts of Knightstown; three nieces, Sally Friend of Long Beach, CA, Mary Jarrett of Wilkinson, Nancy Reason of Greenfield; several great nieces and great nephews.
Her husband preceded her in death on October 17, 1971. She was also preceded death by four brothers, Lowell, Travis, Charles, Leroy, and three half-brothers, Walter, Warren and Winfield McDaniel.
Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 31 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Terry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was Tuesday, January 30 from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mildred L. Irvin

Mildred L. Irvin, 88, of Fort Myers, FL, a former New Castle resident, died Monday, January 15 in Fort Myers.
She was born Feb. 20, 1912 in Rush County, a daughter of the late Claude and Lura Mae Leisure. She was a retired florist and operated many greenhouses. She moved to Florida in 1971.
She was a member of Fort Myers Garden Club, Friends of the Library, High Noon Lion’s Club, Edison-Ford Museum and the Quaker Church. She was a flower judge on the U.S. team which traveled the world judging flower shows. She was an author, writing on history, music and poetry.
Survivors include two sons, Charles (wife, Carolyn) of Augusta, GA, Richard of Sarasota, FL; a brother, Carl W. (wife, Christie) Leisure of Knightstown; a grandson, Carl of Augusta, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. in January, 2000.
Services were 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18 in Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Florida. Burial followed in Fort Myers Memorial Garden. Visitation was one hour prior to services.
Norma Jean Brooks
May 1, 1923 – Jan. 19, 2001
Norma Jean Brooks, 77, of Knightstown died Friday, January 19 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, following a brief illness.
She was born May 1, 1923 in Shelby County, the daughter of the late James and Leona (Stephens) Hughbanks. She was a lifelong homemaker.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. James (Linda) Newkirk of Knightstown; four grandchildren, Robin Brooks of Indianapolis, Andrea Newkirk of Knightstown, Jennifer Brooks of Kennebunkport, Maine, Jimmy B. Newkirk (wife, Melanie) of Knightstown; one great granddaughter, Alexis Marsh; one daughter-in-law, Janis Brooks, of Kennebunkport, Maine; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank S. Brooks in 1984, a son, David L. Brooks in 1999, and one granddaughter, Allison P. Newkirk in 1981.
Services were Monday, January 22 at 10 a.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Chaplain Darrell Haines officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown, Visitation was Sunday, January 21 from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home Scholarship Fund.
Herman Bogue

Herman Bogue, 95, of Spiceland, died March 4 at Henry County Memorial Hospital following a long illness. He was born March 18, 1905.
He was a 1923 Spiceland, High School graduate and attended Cornell University and Indiana University Extension. In 1926, he founded Bogue’s Orchard at the home farm Southwest of Spiceland, which he operated until his retirement in 1972. Bogue was a lifelong member of the Spiceland Friends Meeting, a member and Past Master of Spiceland Masonic Lodge 699, Past Patron of Spiceland OES 563, Past Watchman of New Castle White Shrine of Jerusalem 17, Spiceland Alumni and former Student’s Association and the Indiana Horticultural Group. He was a member of the REMC and served as a director for many years. He was born March 18, 1905, in Spiceland, a son of late Oscar and Cora Hodson Bogue.
He is survived by a son, Jon L. of Spiceland; a sister Cordelia Wright of Spiceland; a foster son, Roy Smith of Indianapolis; a step granddaughter, June Ann McClain of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Ruth Truitt; his second wife, the former LaVeta Leamon; a step daughter, Norma Irwin; a sister, Elva Schaub; and a brother, Kenneth Bogue.
Services were Tuesday, March 6 at the Spiceland Friends Meeting with burial in Circle Grove Cemetery. Calling was Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service. Memorial contributions can be given to Spiceland Friends Meeting or Spiceland Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Richard Wayne Magee

Richard Wayne Magee, 59, died at his home in Carthage on Monday, November 25. He was born in Carthage September 9, 1943, a son of Merill "Bill" and Elsie (Blackburn) Magee. Mr. Magee was a self-employed auto mechanic.
Survivors include one son, John (wife Amanda) Magee of Carthage; three daughters, Phyllis Jo (husband Darren) Haines of Knightstown, Tina (husband Wade) Waddell, Olive Hill, Ky., and Dawn (husband Kevin) Kinnaman of Knightstown; four brothers, George (wife Sue) Magee of Knightstown; Michael (wife Pamela) Magee of Knightstown; James (wife Brenda) Magee of Carthage, and Chuck Magee of Carthage; three sisters, Frances Magee of Greensboro, Phyllis (husband Gerald) Mayberry of Carthage, and Karen (husband Joseph) Renfro of Shreveport, La.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Magee were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 2 at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery at Carthage. Visitation was at the funeral home from noon until time of the service.
Connie Sue Meece
Nov. 9, 1945 - Nov. 25, 2002
Connie Sue (Stone) Meece, 57, a resident of Shirley, died Monday, November 25 in Shirley following a long illness. She was born November 9, 1945 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Otho Carl "Pappy" and Hazel Neoma (Zachary) Stone.
Mrs. Meece was employed and volunteered many hours at Brandywine Manor Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was also employed as an EMT with Estell's Ambulance Service and managed Judy's Dairy Dip for many years in Shirley. She was a member of the Shirley Friends Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathon Andrew (Andy) Butcher of Shirley and Anthony (Tony) Butcher; one daughter, Shonda Sue Butcher of California; one grandson, Jonathon; four brothers, Ronnie Eugune (wife Mary) Stone of Bainbridge, Ga., Jackie Lee (Jack) Stone of Florida, Otho Carl (wife Nina) Stone Jr. of Cartersville, Ga. and Quillen "Dean" (wife June) Stone of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Barbara (husband Gene) Rivers of Dunreith, and Judith (husband Ben) Polston of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 30 at the Shirley Friends Church with Pastor James Jackson officiating. There were no calling hours. The Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson handled arrangements.

Shelby Wayne Butcher

Shelby Wayne Butcher, 43, a resident of Shirley died Tuesday, November 26 in Henry County. He was born September 8, 1959 in New Castle, a son of Roy Butcher of New Castle and Betty (Hicks) Butcher of Flemingsburg, Ky. He was employed at Fields Auto Parts in Greenfield.
Surviving besides his parents are three daughters, Danielle (husband, Willie) Austin II of Anderson, Cassandra Reiley-Butcher and Shelby Lynn Reiley-Butcher, both of Middletown; two grandchildren, Willie Austin III and Briceson Austin; three brothers, Rick Butcher of Kennard, George Butcher of New Castle and Allen Butcher of Flemingsburg, Ky.; two sisters, Hava Butcher and Angela Hedrick, both of New Castle; a fiancée, Amy Neal of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Roger Butcher.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 1 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Visitation was from noon until time of services at 2 p.m.
