John E. Moss

Knightstown resident, John E. Moss, 67, died Friday, September 24 at Methodist Hospital. He was born December 12, 1936 in Loogootee, a son of the late Walter and Inez (McAtee) Moss.
Mr. Moss retired from Switzer in Indianapolis after 23 years of service. He was a lung transplant survivor of 14 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Indianapolis, member of St. Rose Catholic in Knightstown and a previous member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Indianapolis. He coached basketball, football and baseball at Little Flower Catholic School and also loved to hunt, camp and farm.
Survivors include six children, Ron (wife Maggie) Moss and Tim (wife Holly) Moss, both of Indianapolis, Gary Moss of New Palestine, Arlene (husband Dan) Foust of Indianapolis, Mike (wife Jaymie) Moss and Mark (wife Angela) Moss, both of Knightstown; 14 grandchildren, Kyle, Katelyn, Alison, Jessica, Jon, Mary, Hailey, Danielle, Ashley, Emilie, Adam, Jordan, Dalton and Logan; six brothers and sisters, Jim (wife Bev) Moss of Elizabethtown, Ky., Norma Wagner of Indianapolis, Darlene (husband Marvin) Napier of Phoenix, Ariz., Bob (wife Fran) Moss of Greenfield, Carol (husband Dale) Erickson of Hartford, S.D., and Lynn Doyle of Indianapolis.
In addition to his parents, a brother, Danny Doyle, preceded him in death.
Services were held Monday, September 27 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Knightstown with burial in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel on Sunday, September 26.

Kenneth A. Chew
Aug. 5, 1956 – Sept. 22, 2004
Former Knightstown resident, Kenneth A. “Kenny” Chew, 48, of McCordsville, died Wednesday, September 22 in Indianapolis. He was born August 5, 1956 in Rushville, a son of the late Ralph E. and Ruby May (Purdle) Chew.
The 1974 graduate of Knightstown High School worked as a sortation merge operator for Hooks/CVS Warehouse in Indianapolis for 29 years. He was a member of the K-9 Connection Dog Club and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed WWF wrestling. Chew was a softball coach and player and a fan of IU basketball, Nascar racing and a Viking’s football fan. He also collected trading cards.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki L. (Bowles) Chew of McCordsville; two daughters, Kortney and Chyane Chew of McCordsville; four brothers, Max Chew, Tim Chew and Kevin Chew, all of Knightstown and James Chew of Kennard; two sisters, Laura Tapp of Knightstown and Ruth Dudley of Dunreith.
Services were held Monday, September 27 at Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home in Greenfield with Ron Kraus officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, September 26.

Lonnie Ray Young
May 4, 1938 – Sept. 18, 2004
Former Knightstown resident, Lonnie Ray Young, 66, of Sacramento, Calif., died Saturday, September 18 in a Sacramento hospital. He was born May 4, 1938 in Indianapolis, a son of Robert M. and Emily Young.
Mr. Young graduated from Knightstown High School in 1957. He also enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and served his country for 30 years with the United States Air Force as a flight engineer. He worked for Sacramento County for 18 years. He was a member of the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in North Highlands, Calif.
In Lonnie’s spare time, he enjoyed outdoor events with all of his family members including camping, horseback riding and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years , Elaine Pannett Young; six children, Kathy Ferguson of Sacramento, Lonnie Young, Jr. of South Carolina, Robert Young of Sacramento, Mike Young of Nevada, Anna Young of Sacramento and Richard Young of Sacramento; his mother, Emily Young of Knightstown; a brother, Bill Young of Leesburg; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Young and a brother, Donald E. Young.
Services were held Thursday, September 23 at East Lawn Mortuary Chapel in Sacramento. Burial services with military honors followed.
Louise Pike
Dec. 27, 1908 – Sept. 21, 2004
Former Carthage resident, Louise Pike, 95, of Leesburg, Fla. died Tuesday, September 21 in Florida. He was born December 27, 1908 in Hancock County, a daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Souder) Jessup.
Mrs. Pike lived in the Carthage area most of her life, moving to Florida in the year 2000. She was a retired schoolteacher and had taught school for 31 years including the Charlottesville Elementary. She was a member of East St. Christian Church in Carthage and had been attending Northside Christian Church in Leesburg. She married Cecil Pike on February 22, 1930 and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Swarthout of Leesburg, Fla. and Mary Lu (husband Allen) Wood of Palo Alto, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, a son, Marvin Pike and a granddaughter, Rita Bennett preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, September 29) at East St. Christian Church with Rev. Barry Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel Tuesday, September 28.

George W. Jones
July 24, 1925 – Sept. 25, 2004
George W. Jones, 79, of Carthage died Saturday, September 25 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born July 24, 1925 in Indianapolis, a son of the late George T. and Blanche I. (Baker) Jones.
Mr. Jones graduated from Mt. Comfort High School in 1943. He was a bookkeeper for the Indianapolis Stock Yards for 25 years, a manager for Phillips 66 and Checker Stations in Greenfield for 10 years and a security guard for Roll Coater Corp. in Greenfield for 25 years. George was also a lifetime farmer in Hancock County. He attended the Church of Christ in Wilkinson.
Surviving is his wife, Mildred J. (Pressly) Jones whom he married October 23, 1949; four sons, Gary W. Jones of New Palestine, Tim T.F. Jones of Pompano Beach, Fla., George K. Jones of Carthage, and John F. Jones of Knightstown; two daughters, Bonnie J. Heim of Knightstown and Darla L. White of Greenfield; one sister, Blanche Nickels of Connersville; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Jones and a sister, Mary F. Herminghausen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, September 29) at Erlewein Mortuaries in Greenfield with Pastor Ron Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, September 28.

Roy M. Duke
Dec. 9, 1908 – Sept. 28, 2004
Rush County resident, Roy M. Duke, 95 of rural Rushville, died Tuesday, September 28 in Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He was born December 9, 1908 in Jennings County, a son of the late Merritt and Elizabeth (Steele) Duke.
Mr. Duke lived most of his life in Rush County. He was a mechanic for over 50 years, working for Hunsinger’s, Reddick and retiring from J.E. Dean. He married Mildred McMichael Duke on March 31, 1934. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last March and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Charles Marvin Duke of Grant City and Glen (wife Jackie) Duke of Homer; one daughter, Doris Duke of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer Duke.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 1 at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with Rev. Kenneth S. Bates officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 30 at the mortuary.
Hazel D. Trump
Oct. 29, 1922 – Sept. 30, 2004
Hazel D. Trump, 81, of Knightstown died Thursday, September 30 at The Waters Nursing Center in New Castle. She was born October 29, 1922 in Frost, Texas, a daughter of the late John Dixon and Fannie (Lassiter) Whitfield.
Mrs. Trump was a library assistant for 20 years at Knightstown High School. She was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Knightstown and a member and past president of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She was a 1940 graduate of Frost High School in Texas.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce (wife Valerie) Trump of Knightstown and Gene Gholson of Indianapolis; two daughters, Connie (husband Ron) Ross of Ellicott City, Md. and Deb Dickerson of Auckland, New Zealand; three brothers, Leo Whitfield of Diana, Texas, Curt (wife Rachel) Whitfield of Longview, Texas, and Jimmy (wife Margaret) Whitfield of Big Sandy, Texas; a half-brother, Chester Whitfield of Mississippi; one sister, Patty (husband Fred) Garbs of Big Sandy, Texas; and three grandchildren, Lauren Trump and Kip and Katie Ross.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert H. Trump and one brother and one sister.
Services were held Tuesday, October 5 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Mervin Kilmer and Rev. Chris Sitler officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, October 4 with a Psi Iota Sorority Memorial service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s’ Home.
