Loren A. Thompson
Sept. 4, 1938 – June 15, 2004
Rushville resident, Loren A. Thompson, 65, died Tuesday, June 15 at his residence. He was born September 4, 1938 in Johnson County, a son of the late Maxie and Oma Taylor Thompson. He married Carolyn Hacker on November 24, 1960 and she survives.
Thompson was a graduate of Union High in Johnson County and served as a Sergeant in the Indiana National Guard from 1956 to 1964. He had been a truck driver since 1957 and was retired from Fraley & Schilling Truck Co. in Rushville. He was a member of the New Castle Church of Christ.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons, Reed (wife Lynn) Thompson of Whiteland, and Max (wife Linda) Thompson of Connersville; two daughters, Robbin (husband Larry) Brown of Connersville, and Rhonda (husband Randy) Smith of Rushville; three brothers, Jason of Shelbyville, William of Columbus and Jerry of Nineveh; two sisters, Carrie Lee Koons and Dottie Harrison, both of Whiteland; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
One brother preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 18 at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Phil Morgan officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at the Center Christian Church cemetery in Mays.
Friends may call Thursday, June 17 from 2-8 p.m. at Todd Funeral Home.
Norma J. McFarland
June 29, 1931 – June 19, 2004
Knightstown resident, Norma J. McFarland, 72, died Saturday, June 19 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was born June 29, 1931 in Milton, a daughter of the late Samuel and Ester (Earlywine) Grooms.
Mrs. McFarland, a resident of Knightstown for 35 years, was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Robert McFarland; two sons, Kenneth (wife Cindy) Perry of Edinburgh, and Gary Perry of Edinburg; one daughter, Tina (husband Danny) Dunn of Middletown; two brothers, Paul Smith of Texas and Bobby Lee Smith of Cambridge City; one sister, Ruth Bright of Brookville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
One son, one sister and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 23) at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
Laura Irene Doub
July 11, 1909 – June 17, 2004
Laura Irene Doub, 94, a resident of Knightstown died Thursday, June 17 at her residence. She was born July 11, 1909 in Bremen, a daughter of the late Delbert and Mabel (Haas) Neher.
Mrs. Doub had lived in Knightstown for 28 years. A former resident of Connersville, she had worked at Millers Cafeteria and the Hilton House Gift Shop, both in Connersville. She was a member of the Knightstown First Christian Church and had remained an active worker in all church activities. She was also a member of the Jolly Workers Home Ec Club. On April 27, 1929, Laura was married to James Leroy Doub and he preceded her in death September 29, 1952.
Survivors include four daughters, Margaret Wright of Richmond, Doris Dodson of Waltham, Mass., Esther (husband Dale) Brock of Spiceland, and Linda Lund of Beaumont, Texas; one sister, Violet Neher Leeper of Bremen; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild, five step-great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, one brother, two sisters and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Monday, June 21 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel. Burial was in Dale Cemetery at Connersville following the funeral.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, June 20.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Knightstown Christian Church or to Hancock Memorial Hospice.
Carolyn Noland
July 10, 1925 – June 19, 2004
Carolyn Noland, 78, a resident of Markleville died Saturday, June 19 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born July 10, 1925 in Sidney, a daughter of the late Floyd and Marie (Fox) Newcomer.
Mrs. Noland retired in 1982 from Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle as a nursing supervisor and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Shirley-Wilkinson United Methodist Church, Markleville Eastern Star #363, the Merrymakers Club and Killbuck Retirees.
Survivors include her husband, William Stanford Noland of Markleville; one daughter, Martha (husband Bob) Davis of Parker, Colo.; one son, Charles Noland of Markleville; six grandchildren; four sisters, Jeanette Tridle, Vivian Miller and Jo Ann Valentine, all of North Manchester, and Louise Goehler of California; one brother, Hubert Newcomer of North Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Ronald Newcomer, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 24 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jeffery L. Mair officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today, (Wednesday, June 23) with Eastern Star Services at 7 p.m.
Winifred G. Robertson
May 29, 1946 – June 18, 2004
Markleville resident, Winifred G. Robertson, 58, died Friday, June 18 at his residence. He was born Mary 29, 1946 in Elwood, a son of Glen E. and Nellie Alice (Adams) Robertson.
Mr. Robertson retired from Guide Lamp in Anderson and was an avid race fan, mushroom hunter and pool player. He enjoyed rebuilding garden tractors.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela (husband Joe) Adams of Knightstown, Marcie Joe Robertson of Greenfield and Mariah Kay Robertson of Markleville; his mother, Nellie Alice Gilley of Owenton, Ky.; four grandchildren, one brother, Robert Surber of Owenton, Ky.; one sister, Maria Surber of Markleville; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glen E. Robertson in 1949; two brothers, Ferrill Adams and Patrick Robertson.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, June 23) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Joseph Kortz officiating. Burial was in Mendon Cemetery in Pendleton.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, June 22.
John S. Winslow
Oct. 9, 1929 - Apr. 25, 2004
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Todd Funeral Home Saturday, June 25 for John S. Winslow. Rev. David Bonne will officiate.
Mr. Winslow, a native of Carthage, was a resident of Albany, Ga. He spent the majority of his adult life in the Indianapolis and Chicago area. For the past 20 years, he spent his life traveling and working all over America in such places as Honolulu, Las Cruces, N.M., Orlando, Fla., Exeter, Mo., Jackson, Tenn. and finally settled in Albany for the last 10 years.
He is survived by his first wife, Mary and son Bentley of Hammond; son Bryan and grandsons, Lance, Michael and Ian of San Diego, Calif.; second wife, Rose and daughter, Maggie of Albany, Ga.; brother Jim of Lima, Ohio; and sister Sue of Bloomington. One son, John II preceded him in death.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Carthage.

Jordyn Makayla Vaughn
Oct. 13, 1999 – June 25, 2004
Jordyn Makayla Vaughn, age four, died Friday, June 25 at her Shirley residence. She was born October 13, 1999 in Shelbyville, a daughter of Robert and Rebecca (VanDuyn) Vaughn.
Surviving are her parents of Shirley, two sisters, Ashlee Page Sullivan and Kelsey Roberta Reanne Vaughn, both of Shirley; paternal grandparents, Gary Duane and Sheryl Ann Vaughn of Shirley; paternal grandmother, Kathy Lynn Woods of Michigan; maternal grandparents, Larry Lee and Dorothy VanDuyn of Knightstown; uncle, Brian Alan Vaughn of Shirley; uncle, Greg VanDuyn of Shelbyville; uncle and aunt, Jeff and Darla VanDuyn of Morristown; uncle and aunt, Doug and Melissa VanDuyn of Shelbyville; aunt, Amber Nicole Woods of Lake Orion, Mich.; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by grandmother, Lois R. VanDuyn and great-grandfather, Richard E. Vaughn.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, (Wednesday, June 30) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Larry Basey and Rev. Trent Riley officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, June 29.
