James W. Wright
May 9, 1978 – May 26, 2004
James W. Wright, 26, of Carthage, died May 26 at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart. Born May 9, in Greenfield, he was the son of Jay and Terri Wood.
James was a supervisor for Burns Security Co. in Indianapolis. James was a 1996 graduate of Marion High School in Marion. On June 24, 2001, he married Amanda L. Heagy and she died December 5, 2003.
He is survived by one son, Brandon W. Wright; his parents, Jay and Terri Wood; one brother, Greg A. Wood; and grandparents, John and Mary Wood, all of Carthage. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 1 at Todd Funeral Home Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Randy Gross officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Buddy F. Roland
May 28, 1938 – May 30, 2004
Buddy F. Roland, 66, of Knightstown, died May 30 at University of Louisville (Ky.) Hospital. Born May 28, 1938, he was the son of Joseph and Elsie (Carlson) Roland and lived most of his life in Knightstown.
Mr. Roland was a retired truck driver. He was a member of Pendleton Amvets, Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and Greenfield V.F.W.
He is survvied by his parents; a daughter, Lisa (James) Cook of Knightstown; a brother, Jerry J. Roland of Knightstown; a grandson, Joey Roland; and a granddaughter, Charma Cook.
Funeral services are at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown on Friday, June 4 at 1 p.m. with Past Gary Kirshoff officiating. Visitation is Friday, June 4 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Todd Funeral Home. Burial will take place following the service at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Knightstown American Legion Post 152 will conduct military graveside services.
Norma J. Brown
June 10, 1921 – June 3, 2004
Carthage resident, Norma J. Brown, 82, died Thursday, June 3 in the Morristown Manor Nursing Home, Morristown. She was born June 10, 1921 in Rushville.
Mrs. Brown had lived most of her life in Carthage. She had been a bank teller/cashier at Carthage State Bank until her retirement. She was a member of the Fletcher United Methodist Church and graduated from Arlington High School in 1938. On May 10, 1941, she married Lowell Brown and he preceded her in death in 1995.
Survivors include one son, Jerry (wife Pennie) Brown of Arlington; one daughter, Linda Brown of Carthage; two brothers, Malcum (wife Donna) Fancher of Lawrence, and Bob (wife Betty) Fancher of Arlington; one sister, June Ball of Madison; and two grandsons, Brandon and Justin Greenwalt of Arlington.
Services were held Monday, June 7 at the Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage with Pastor Roger Campbell officiating. Burial was in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel, Sunday, June 6.

Gertrude I. Knox
Feb. 27, 1910 – June 1, 2004
Wilkinson resident, Gertrude I. Knox, 94, died Tuesday, June 1 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield following a short illness. She was born February 27, 1910 in Lafayette, a daughter of the late Chesney P. and Irene (Towers) Smith.
Mrs. Knox was a homemaker and a member of the Wilkinson Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Arthur Knox; two daughters, Carol (husband Herbert) Woollard of Crossville, Ill., and Barbara Knox of Wilkinson; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Lura Lehman of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Earl, Don and Mahlon Smith and three sisters, Iona Matrone, Arlene Hall and Belva Howarth preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 4 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home with Jeff Sawyer officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday, June 3.
Tommie W. Apple
Nov. 19, 1949 – June 13, 1949
Tommie “Tom” W. Apple, 54, a resident of Wilkinson, died Sunday, June 13 in Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born November 19, 1949 in Indianapolis, a son of Floyd and Ruth (Maxwell) Apple.
Mr. Apple retired from Inland Fisher Guide in Anderson.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Diane (O’Neal) Apple of Wilkinson; two daughters, Darlene Apple of Wilkinson and Christy (husband Todd) Stephenson of Fortville; his mother, Ruth Apple of Greenfield; four grandchildren; one brother, John Apple of Greenfield; one sister, Sue Smith of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.
His father, Floyd Apple, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, June 16) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Shirley Lukens officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, June 15.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hancock Memorial Hospital Foundation-Hospice Unit.
William J. Cummings
Aug. 27, 1981 – June 11, 2004
William J. Cummings, 22, of New Castle, died unexpectedly Friday, June 11 at the Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle. He was born August 27, 1981 in New Castle.
Cummings was an employee of Indiana Auto Fasteners in Greenfield. He enjoyed music, basketball, fishing and reading.
He is survived by his father, William H. Cummings and his mother, Gail (Isenberg) Chew, both of New Castle; his step-father, Ervin Chew of New Castle; his fiancée, Helene Weaver of New Castle; one daughter, Lauren Cummings and step-son, Austin Weaver, both of New Castle; one sister, Ardis Cummings of Broad Ripple; maternal grandmother, Delene Isenberg of Knightstown; paternal grandmother, Mary Cummings of New Castle; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Huel Cummings in 1999, his maternal grandfather, Eugene Isenberg in 1994, and maternal great-grandparents, John and Delma (Burton) McDonald.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 15 at the Main & Frame Funeral home in New Castle with the Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial was in Green Hills Memory Gardens.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, June 14.

Helen V. Bond
July 26, 1916 – June 13, 2004
Helen V. Bond, 87, of Greenfield died Sunday, June 13 at Hancock Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was born July 26, 1916 in Clinton County, a daughter of the late Omer and Minnie (Harper) Van Tyle.
A lifelong resident of Indiana, Mrs. Bond retired from Delco-Remy Plant #10 in Anderson in May 1973 after 27 years of service. She had formerly been employed at Westwood Veterinary Clinic in Greenfield. She was devoted to her animals, especially to her cats that she showed for years. She was also a volunteer with the Hancock County Humane Society upon retiring.
Survivors include one son, Dale Bond of Katy, Texas; one sister, Mary Striewe of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; several nieces and nephews including Thomas J. Monroe of Lahobra, Calif., Sondra Brattain of New Castle, Philip Van Tyle and Marcia Favorite, both of Lynn and Max Stubbs of Troy, Ohio.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Van Tyle and a sister, Stella Bell.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, June 16) at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service, New Castle with Rev. Clark Hobby officiating. Burial was in South Mound Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, June 15.
