Darla J. Moon
April 3, 1948 – May 3, 2004
Darla J. Moon, 46, a resident of Shirley, died at her home on Monday, May 3. She was born April 3, 1958 in Noblesville, a daughter of Robert and Laura (Eiler) Harless of Markleville.
Mrs. Moon was a newspaper carrier and a member of the 1st Pentecostal Church of Anderson. Darla was an avid horse lover.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas Moon of Shirley; two sons, Jason and Corey Moon, both of Shirley; one daughter, Sarah Moon of Shirley; her parents; four stepsons, Tom Moon of Florida, Cary and Michael Moon, both from Ohio, and Toney Moon of Daleville; six grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; two sisters, Rhonda Shelley of Markleville and Susan Lane of Emporia; one brother, Robert Harless of Markleville; and several nieces and nephews.
A son Chris Harless preceded her in death in 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Danny St. Clair officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 5).
Rev. Byron O. Leaser
Dec. 16, 1905 – May 7, 2004
Rev. Byron O. Leaser, 98, of Warren and former resident of Knightstown, died Friday, May 7 at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren. He was born December 16, 1905 in Van Wert, Ohio, a son of the late Adolphus and Mona (Falcon) Leaser.
Rev. Leaser was a graduate of Van Wert High School and Cleveland Bible Institute. He had been a Friends minister, serving in many churches including Knightstown. He was a Boy Scout master in Dublin and a Cub Scout master in Knightstown and West Milton, Ohio. He organized the Knightstown Church Youth Basketball League and coached the Friends’ teams. He was a member of the Lions Club at Westfield, the Kiwanis Club at Knightstown and a recipient of the Knightstown Kiwanis Citizen Award.
Surviving are three daughters, Joan (husband Jim) Vogel and Nancy (husband Marvin) White, both of Bradenton, Fla., and Gail (husband Larry) Lindsay of Marion; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie M. Leaser in 1994 and a brother, Oscar Leaser.
Services were held Tuesday, May 11 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverends Doug Shoemaker and Charles McDonald officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, May 10.
Richard E. Wells
Sept. 25, 1940 – May 5, 2004
Carthage native Richard E. Wells, 63, of Brownsburg, died Wednesday, May 5 at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville. He was born in Carthage September 25, 1940, a son of Clyde and Laura (Loveall) Wells.
Mr. Wells had lived in Brownsburg for 32 years and was a graduate of Carthage High School. He was retired from Allisons as an inspector and was a member of U.A.W. #933. He was a member of The Faith Baptist Church of Avon.
On August 15, 1975, he married Barbara (Kinnett) Wells and she survives. Other survivors include his mother, Laura Wells of Knightstown; two daughters, Norma Doodles (husband Bill) Kerr of Kennard, and Deana (husband Keith) Marks of Bremen; two step-sons, Rod (wife Sherrie) Stearns of Kokomo and Scott (wife Shona) Stearns of Avon; one step-daughter, Jennie (husband Steve) Cooper of Brownsburg; four brothers, Daniel Eugene Wells of Knightstown, James Patrick Wells of Indianapolis, Jerry Allen Wells of Shirley and Lloyd Dean Wells of Knightstown; five sisters, Geneva Elaine Jones of Noblesville, Constance Kay Tucker of Indianapolis, Rebecca Ann Davis of Knightstown, Nina Jo Heady of Detroit, Mich., and Candice Lou Smith of New Castle; five grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His father, Clyde Wells, preceded him in death.
Services were held Saturday, May 8 at the Todd Funeral Home Butcher Chapel with Rev. Marc Monte officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery with military rites by Knightstown American Legion and VFW.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Friday, May 7.
Gary D. Goodwin
March 1, 1941 – May 3, 2004
Former Knightstown resident, Gary D. Goodwin, 63, of Oklahoma City, Okla. died Monday, May 3 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City following an extended illness. He was born March 1, 1941 in Spiceland, a son of Harold C. and Sarah Louise (Huffman) Goodwin.
Mr. Goodwin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a supervisor at Lucent Technologies in Oklahoma City. He was a 1959 graduate of Spiceland High School and was active in the Spiceland Alumni association. He formerly resided in Indianapolis where he worked at Western Electric. He enjoyed pets.
Survivors include his mother, Louise Goodwin of Spiceland; a brother, Monte (wife Irene) Goodwin of Knightstown; three nephews, Bob (wife Robyn) Goodwin of Norman, Okla., Randy (wife Melissa) Goodwin of Spiceland, and Mike Goodwin of Detroit, Mich.; one great-niece, one great-nephew, two great step-nephews, two aunts and several cousins.
His father, Harold C. Goodwin, preceded him in death in 1981.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hinshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.

William E. Bilsky
July 4, 1942 – May 11, 2004
William E. “Bill” Bilsky, 61, a resident of Knightstown, died Tuesday, May 11 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born July 4, 1942 in Indianapolis, a son of the late William F. and Margurette (Thomas) Bilsky.
Bilsky had been employed at Midwest Credit Services in Indianapolis for several years. He had formerly been employed as a real estate agent, working for ReMax and Carpenter Realty for over 30 years. He attended St. Rose Catholic Church in Knightstown and enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading and jazz music.
Survivors include his wife, Pam (Anthrop) Bilsky; one daughter, Katey Bilsky at home; a sister-in-law, Judy Anthrop of Knightstown; a brother-in-law, Robert Anthrop of West Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday, May 14 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 13.

Robert S. Brown
April 8, 1921 – May 23, 2004
Robert S. “Bob” Brown, 83, of Knightstown died Sunday, May 23 at Regency Place in Greenfield following an extended illness. He was born April 8, 1921 in Middletown, a son of the late Clarence and Cecil (Fish) Brown.
Brown was a veteran of World War II where he served as a member of the United States Air Force. A lifelong resident of central Indiana, he attended school in Middletown and retired from Delco Remy in Anderson. He was a lifetime member of the Knightstown American Legion Post #152.
Survivors include his wife, Betty S. Brown of Knightstown; two sons, Pat of Muncie and Tim of Orland Park, Ill.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 25 at Glen Cove Cemetery with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Visitation was held at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Charles Joe Stapp
April 15, 1933 – May 11, 2004
Charles Joe Stapp, 71, of Smithville, Tenn., died Friday, May 21 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born April 15, 1933.
The U.S. Army Veteran retired as an engineer from Ferodo. He was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Stapp of Smithville; three sons, Joseph (wife Angela) Stapp, William (wife Tabitha) Stapp, and James (wife Donna) Stapp, all of Smithville; three daughters, Sherri (husband Mark) Hutchings of Smithville, Tenn., Charlu “Buffy” (husband Willie) Frazier, Lascassas, Tenn., and Molly (husband Steve) Craig of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one brother, Rev. Tom Stapp of Indiana; and one sister, Justine Southward of Logansport.
His parents, Josephus and Gladys Schmidt Stapp, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
The funeral service was held Monday, May 24 at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church with Father Jim Bretl officiating. Burial was in DeKalb Cemetery.
DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville was in charge of arrangements.
