Margaret C. Kopp

Knightstown resident, Margaret C. Kopp, 55, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 14 at Hancock Memorial Hospital. She was born August 14, 1948 in Kentucky, a daughter of Rue and Mary Jane (Denny) Wesley, Jr.
Margaret was a 1967 graduate of Somerset High School. She owned and operated Margo’s Medical Transport Service in Knightstown for over 20 years. She had formerly been employed at Estell Funeral Home in Shirley and Butcher Funeral Home in Knightstown. She had also taught basic CPR and First Aid at the Henry County Sheriff’s Dept.
Survivors include two sons, Jason (wife Christy) Kopp of Knightstown, and Eric (wife Aimee) Kopp of Louisville, Ky.; two granddaughters, Quincy Kopp and Diana Grace Kopp; her parents, Rue and Mary Jane Wesley, Jr. of Westfield; three brothers, Charlie (wife Patty) Wesley of Indianapolis, Jon (wife Debbie) Wesley of Indianapolis and William Wesley of Los Angeles, Calif.; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Wesley of Indianapolis; two nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather Rue Wesley, Sr.
Services were held Saturday, April 17 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Rev. Brian Campbell officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held prior to the service on Saturday.
Benjamin Polston
Aug. 15, 1940 – Apr. 18, 2004
Benjamin J. M. Polston, 63, a resident of Shirley, died Sunday, April 18 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born August 15, 1940 in Jabez, Ky., a son of the late Benjamin G. and Zelpha J. (Johnson) Polston.
Mr. Polston retired in 1992 from Delco Remy in Anderson after 30 years of service. He was owner and manager of Ben’s Friendly Bar, Judy’s Dairy Dip and former owner of the Friendly Club Card Room, all in Shirley. He served in the U.S. Army and was loved by many in his community and was awarded the Shirley Founder’s Day “Man of the Year”.
Survivors include two daughters, Dena Polston of Muncie, and Susan (husband Ed) Goff of Shirley; two grandchildren Amber and Josh Goff of Shirley; companion Rhonda King of Knightstown; four sisters, Doris Vaughn of Shirley, Emma Tompkins of Wilkinson, Mildred Anderson of Shirley, and Louise McRoberts of Shirley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith A. Polston in 2003, and his sister Betty June Polston.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, April 21) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Bill Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by American Legion Post #152, Knightstown.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, April 20.

Elmer F. Zornes
Oct. 15, 1910 – Apr. 19, 2004
Former Shirley resident, Elmer F. Zornes, 93, a resident of Greenfield, died Monday, April 19 at Regency Place Healthcare Center. He was born October 15, 1910 in Olive Hill, Ky., a son of the late Millard Lacy and Hattie Pearl (Cline) Zornes.
Mr. Zornes retired from Delco Remy in Anderson and was a woodworker and plasterer. He was a member of the Shirley Christian Church, U.A.W. #662 Auto Workers and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Maryland. He was also an avid fisherman.
Surviving are two daughters, Lucille (husband Hollis) Lewman of Markleville, and Linda Lou (husband Donald) Dryer of Marinette, Wisc.; one son, Larry (wife Linda) Zornes of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Lane of Westport, and Anna Mae Webb of North Vernon; one brother, Phillip Zornes of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his wife Anna (Wheeler) Zornes in 2000; two sons, Winfred Zornes and Dennie McDonald; two granddaughters, Vicki Lewman and Julie Zornes.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22 in the Shirley Christian Church with Pastor James Hill officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Friends may call at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 21).

Anna May McIlvain
May 1, 1924 – Apr. 19, 2004
Anna May McIlvain, 79, a resident of Kennard, died Monday, April 19 at the Middletown Nursing and Rehab Center after a battle with cancer. She was born May 1, 1924 in Kennard, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Flossie McIlvain.
Miss McIlvain retired in 1985 from General Motors in Anderson after 32 years of service. She was a member of UAW #662 and attended the Kennard Friends Church.
Survivors include first cousins, Carolyn (husband J.C.) Drysdale, Tom (wife Jean) Lewis, Phil (wife Joan) Lewis, Marjory (husband Dan) Harsh, Doris (husband Fred) Offutt, Jack (wife Rosemary) Lewis, Ellen Foust, Rose Holmes, Chlobelle Cullum, MaryAnn Stevens and Martha Jane Lawrence. Also Roger Ray, a widower of first cousin Lavone, neighbors who took good care of her lawns and every need, Bob and Misty Payne, John and Sue Ryan, Jr. and Barbara Doudman, Beth Pribble, Mary Ann and Gerald Strader.
Three brothers, Charlie, Harold and Marion McIlvain preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Howard Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 22.
Joseph Davis
May 23, 1920 – Apr. 27, 2004
Joseph Davis, 83, of Carthage died Tuesday, April 2 at his residence. He was born May 23, 1920 in Smith Creek, Ky., a son of the late Thomas and Eliza (Young) Davis.
Mr. Davis had lived in Carthage most of his life. He retired from Container Corp. following 29 years of service. He was a member of United Paper Workers Local 69 and a member of the Carthage Wesleyan Church.
On June 6, 1955, Davis married Virginia Steward Davis and she survives him. Other survivors include four sons, Joey (wife Carol) Davis of Southbridge, Mass., Brian (wife Judy) Davis of Carthage, Glenn (wife Angie) Davis of Carthage, and Tommy (wife Tammy) Davis of Carthage; one brother, James A. (wife Faye) Davis of Ft. Wayne; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29 at the Carthage Wesleyan Church with Harold E. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Carthage Town Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Knightstown American Legion & VFW.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 28) at the church located on N. East St. in Carthage. Todd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clifton P. Zapf
June 18, 1922 – Apr. 21, 2004
Former Greenfield resident, Clifton P. Zapf, 81, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, April 21 at the Odd Fellows Home in Greensburg. He was born June 18, 1922 in Hancock County, a son of the late Michael and Grace (Murphy) Zapf.
Mr. Zapf retired in 1986 from Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis as a millwright. He owned Zapf Brothers Construction in Greenfield and was a partner in Bradbury’s Phillips 66 in Greenfield. He was a veteran of W.W. II, serving in the Marine Corps. Zapf was a member of the Golden Rule Lodge No. 16, F.& A.M. of Knightstown and Past Master, past member and Commander of York Rite at Knightstown, member of York Cross of Honor at Knightstown, past member of Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, past member of Murat Shrine and past member of Shrine of Henry County. He was a member of American Legion in Greenfield, V.F.W. of Greenfield and past president of the Charlottesville Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Hawks) Zapf of Greensburg; four daughters, Teresa Lynn Carlson of Greensburg, Janice Annette Niece of Bullhead City, Ariz., Jackueline Louise Moran of Morgantown, Cheryl Denise Gallagher of Greensburg; one son, Charles Michael Zapf of Knightstown; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Beulah Fishback of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
Three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Jerran Jackson officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Friday, April 23 with Masonic services at 7 p.m.
Clyde O. Littrell
Mar. 11, 1922 – Apr. 28, 2004
Clyde O. Littrell, 82, of Straughn, died Wednesday, April 28 at Henry County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1922 in Mopin, Ky. (near Albany), a son of the late James M. and Ruby (Williams) Littrell.
A longtime Henry County resident, he retired from Firestone after 31 years of service. He also farmed in the Rich Square Community for many years. He was a founding member of the Henry County Saddle Club. Littrell was a member of the New Lisbon Lions Club, Masonic Lodge of New Castle and the Elks of McAllen, Texas. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in England, France, Africa and Italy as a Technician 4th grade. He had attended the Memorial Wesleyan Church in New Castle.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Clark Littrell whom he married August 3, 1946; one son, Clyde Duane (wife Clare) Littrell of New Castle; one daughter, Myra A. (husband Vernon) Bulmer of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Jeanna M. (husband Tony) Elza of Hagerstown, Janet L. (husband Jeff) Wells of Connersville, Jessica (husband Chad) Crull of Salem, Ill., and Jason Bulmer of Straughn; four great-grandchildren, Benjamin Elza, Rebeka Elza, Bailey Wells and Timothy James Crull; and two sisters, Martha Russell and Jean Hoover, both of New Castle.
Two sisters, Euthel Lunde and Fern Davis and a brother, James, preceded him in death.
Services were held Monday, May 3 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Rev. Nate Thomas officiating. Burial was in South Mound Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, May 2.
