Edythe Simmons Snider

Former Knightstown resident, Edythe Simmons Snider, 79, of Lake Lemon, Unionville, died March 25 at Caring Hands Health Care Center in Peru. She was born October 1, 1924 in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Frank Paul and Ina Jones Simmons. She was married on May 2, 1942 to Max D. Snider, who died May 8, 1997.
Mrs. Snider was retired from First National Insurance, was a member of the Business and Professional women’s Club, Little Union Church and was active in several church and civic organizations.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Snider Grund of Culver, and Mary Janet Snider of Logansport; Grandchildren, Dr. Andrew and Jama Grund Lidral of Iowa City, Iowa, and James David and Shawna Grund of Peru; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Hannah and Erin Lidral and Mallori Grund; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A brother, Myron Paul Simmons, also preceded her in death.
Services were held Monday, March 29 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial was in Harlan Cemetery in Hancock County.
Visitation was held at the funeral home prior to the services on Monday.
Margaret Mae Cochrel
Nov. 22, 1920 – Mar. 27, 2004
Margaret Mae Cochrel, 83, a resident of Pendleton, died Saturday, March 27 at Rawlings House in Pendleton. She was born November 22, 1920 in New Castle, a daughter of the late Vernon and Eva (Gordon) Harwood.
Mrs. Cochrel had worked in the kitchen at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas and attended the Nazarene Church in New Castle.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary (husband James) Thompson of Pendleton, and Peggy (husband Russell) Willoughby of New Castle; one sister, Roberta Koontz of Mooreland; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Cochrel in 1983, a son Robert Cochrel, Jr. in 1995, two grandsons and two great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 30 in the Condo & Son Funeral home with burial in Green Hills Memory Gardens in New Castle.
Visitation was held Monday, March 29 at the funeral home.
Anna Cleo Stinson
Sept. 1, 1930 – Mar. 30, 2004
Former Knightstown resident, Anna Cleo Stinson, 73, died Tuesday, March 30 at Americare Living Center in New Castle. She was born September 1, 1930 in Rowan County, Ky., a daughter of the late Charles and Lillie (Bowen) Stinson.
She is survived by one stepbrother, Leroy Earlywine of Greenfield; one sister, Tracy (husband Bob) Craig of Martinsville; six nieces, one nephew and several cousins.
Graveside services were held Friday, April 2 in Glen Cove Cemetery with Rev. George Maloyed officiating.
Visitation was held at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel on Thursday, April 1.
Glen H. Mattix
Feb. 27, 1911 – Apr. 9, 2004
Glen H. Mattix, 93, of Knightstown died Friday, April 9 t Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield. He was born February 27, 1911 in Hancock County, a son of the late Russell and Maude (Jackson) Mattix.
Mr. Mattix had lived in Knightstown for most of his life. He worked as a salesman for Wagoner Hardware and also managed the Knightstown American Legion Canteen and was retired from both.
He married Jeanette S. Sharp on July 23, 1937 and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Evelyn A. (husband Lewis) Merchant and Doris J. McNabb, both of Knightstown; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
One son, one brother and two great-grandchildren preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 14) at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery with graveside military rites by Knightstown American Legion and VFW.
Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Henry County Veterans Memorial at the American Legion Post.
Myrtle E. Clevenger
June 23, 1909 – Apr. 11, 2004
Long time Carthage resident Myrtle E. Clevenger, 94, died Sunday, April 11 at Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was born June 23, 1909 in Shelby County, a daughter of the late Charlie and Rebecca (Gaston) Nigh.
Mrs. Clevenger was a homemaker and had lived in Carthage most of her life. She was a member of the Carthage Friends Meeting.
Survivors include one son, George Roberts of Charlottesville; five stepsons, Ted E., John, James and William Clevenger and Danny Lee, location unknown; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
On December 5, 1960, she married Ted Clevenger who preceded her in death. Six brothers, two sisters and one great-great-grandchild also preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15 in the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel with Rev. Fred Powers officiating. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Cathy Marie Covington
Sept. 6, 1956 – Apr. 7, 2004
Cathy Marie Covington, 47, a resident of Wilkinson, died Wednesday, April 7 at her residence. She was born September 6, 1956 in Greenfield, a daughter of the late Richard Holmes and Marilyn Sue (Holliday) Holmes.
Mrs. Covington was an employee of CVS for 30 years and a graduate of Greenfield Central High School. Cathy was a loyal supporter of the Eastern Hancock Royals.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Covington of Wilkinson; one son, Ryan D. Covington of Wilkinson; her mother, Sue Holmes of Greenfield; three brothers, Mike, Phillip and Bill Holmes, all of Greenfield; one sister, Diane Harmon of Wilkinson; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Her father Richard Holmes preceded her in death in 1996.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Jack Holliday officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery Greenfield.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Friday, April 9.

Joseph L. Lewman
Aug. 14, 1932 – Apr. 12, 2004
Joseph L. Lewman, 71, a resident of Greenfield, died Monday, April 12 at Morristown Manor Health Care in Morristown. He was born August 14, 1932 in Raysville, a son of the late Samuel and Virgie (Plank) Lewman.
Mr. Lewman retired from Eli Lilly security after 28 years of service and was a house painter. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Willow Branch United Methodist church and was an avid golfer. Lewman was a graduate of Charlottesville High School with the class of 1951.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Shirley (Eakin) Lewman; one daughter, Sherry (husband Rick) Lawrence of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Leslie Wickard of Wilkinson and J. P. Lawrence of Greenfield; one great-grandchild, Paige Wickard of Wilkinson; one brother, Hollis Lewman of Markleville; three sisters, Ruth Hewson of Greenfield, Mildred Stillwell of New Castle and Wanda Walker of Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Lewman, one son, Dennis Lewman and three brothers, Curtis, Ralph and David Lewman.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Leslie Coomer officiating. Burial will be in McCray Cemetery with graveside military services.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 15 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Willow Branch United Methodist Church, Hospice of Shelby County or the Indiana Alzheimer’s Association.
