Steven A. Nigh

Steven A. Nigh, 53, died at his Indianapolis residence on November 19. He was born February 21, 1949 in Knightstown, a son of the late Charles W. and Uba (Hendricks) Nigh.
Mr. Nigh was a welder for Allison Transmission for 23 years, retiring in 2002. He attended Knightstown High School and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Germany.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Walda Nigh of Indianapolis; two sons, Scott and Rob Nigh of Indianapolis; two sisters, Nelda Kay Baker of Missouri and Charlyn Nigh of Greenfield; one brother, Philip Nigh of Mesa, Arizona; and his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Mildred Walda.
Services were held Saturday, November 23 at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel in Indianapolis with burial in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown. Visitation was held Friday, November 22 at the Shirley Brothers Mortuaries.

Kenneth Paul Whittaker

Kenneth Paul Whittaker, 14, died Saturday, November 23 at his home near Falmouth. He was born April 29, 1988 in Greenfield, a son of Bart K. and Roxanne (Bolser) Whittaker.
Kenneth attended Mays School throughout grade school and was currently a freshman at Rushville Community High School. He had been active in Scouting (BSA), had been a member of the freshman football team and enjoyed golf and all-terrain vehicles.
Surviving are his parents, Bart K. and Roxanne Whittaker of Falmouth; and his grandparents, Mary Whittaker of Rushville and Joe and Juanita Bolser of Hamilton, Ohio.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, November 27) at Moster & Cox Mortuary with Tony Augsburger officiating. Burial will take place in East Hill Cemetery, Rushville. Visitation was held Tuesday, November 26 at the funeral home.
Pearl Runyan VanBuskirk
ca. 1917 - October 31, 2002
A former resident, Pearl Runyan VanBuskirk, 85, died Thursday, October 31 at a nursing home in Tennessee following an extended illness. She was brought up in Henry County and attended school in Knightstown, graduating in 1935.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Sue (Larry) Garris of Nashville, Tennessee, and one son, Steven VanBuskirk of St. Mary’s Ga.
Gwendal R. Osborn
April 6, 1932 – Nov. 24, 2002
Gwendal R. Osborn, 70, of Indianapolis, died at his residence Sunday, November 24. He was born April 6, 1932.
Mr. Osborn worked for 35 years as a machinist at Miller-Hoff Machine Shop, retiring in 1985. He was a member of U.A.W. Teamster Union Local #135.
He is survived by his companion, Ruby L. Willoughby; three children, Marcus L. (wife Amanda) Willoughby of Knightstown, Erik S. Willoughby, Amanda J. Willoughby and Lisa A. Davidson, all of Indianapolis. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, November 27) at Legacy Funeral in Indianapolis. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of services today.
Ruth Record
Oct. 25, 1904 - Nov. 24, 2002
Ruth Record, 98, a former resident of Willow Branch and Anderson, died Sunday, November 24 at her home in Fort Collins, Colo. She was born October 25, 1904 in Willow Branch, a daughter of the late David Oren and Lora (Bridges) Record.
Ruth attended schools in Willow Branch and Wilkinson, graduating with the class of 1922. While living at home, Ruth worked in the family-owned grocery/hardware store (Record Family Store) in Willow Branch. Upon graduation, Ruth entered the banking profession, working in Willow Branch and Indianapolis until she retired in 1969. She then moved to Dallas, Texas to be with her sister, Naomi Graves. While in Dallas, she worked at The Plum Tree, a gift shop until 1986 when at age 82, she again "retired". She moved to Anderson with her sisters Naomi and Fern (Wilhelm) in 1993. Upon Fern's death in 1997, Ruth and Naomi relocated to Colorado where family members provided care for them.
Ruth was a lifelong Methodist, attending church at Willow Branch United Methodist Church, North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Walnut Hill United Methodist Church in Dallas and Fifth Street United Methodist Church in Anderson.
Survivors include her sister, Naomi Graves, Fort Collins, Colo., nieces, Juanita Cooper, Greenwood, Donna Wilhelm-Hudson, Fort Collins, Colo. and Ann Dolin, Columbia, S.C.; nephews, Richard Wilhelm, San Antonio, Texas and Oren "Ed" Wilhelm, Plano, Texas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Record, Columbia, S.C., and numerous grand-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Oren Record and a sister, Fern (Record) Wilhelm. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 30 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with burial in Harlan Cemetery near Wilkinson. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Friday, November 29.

John C. Atkins
Jan. 29, 1938 - Nov. 30, 2002
John C. Atkins, 64, of Anderson died Saturday, November 30 at St. John's Health System following an extended illness. He was born January 29, 1938 in Rush County, a son of the late Herman A. and Emogene E. (Johnson) Atkins.
Mr. Atkins had farmed most of his life and had driven a school bus in Madison County for 40 years. He also worked for Delco Remy for 35 years, retiring in November of 2000. He attended Huntsville Community Church. He was a member of the UAW Local #662, Frankton Antique Tractor Association and the Indiana School Bus Drivers Association. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant from 1955 to 1958 and was stationed in France. He had many hobbies including collecting and working on antique farm equipment. His nickname was "Farmer John".
Survivors include his wife, Karen S. Atkins of Anderson, and children, Mellody F. Wiley and Joseph C. Atkins, both of Rush County, Tina M. Peters and James R. Miller, both of Anderson; three sisters, Mary Alma Wheeler of Brownsburg, Faith Ann Loveall of Anderson and Dorothy (Dottie) Beth Horton of Perham, Minn.; one brother, George Allen Atkins of Knightstown; three grandsons, Jordan Christopher Atkins, Craig Allen Wiley and Joel Ryan Wiley, all of Rushville; one granddaughter, Tamara L. Peters of Anderson; a cousin, Ralph Atkins of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Charles Atkins II and a granddaughter, Ashley Peters.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, December 5 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Claude Creel of Huntsville Community Church and Rev. Carol Wiley of New Castle officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Rush County.
Friends may call at the Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, South Chapel in Anderson on Tuesday, December 3 from 4-8 p.m. and at the Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown on Wednesday, December 4 from 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, St. John's Hospice and the Humane Society of Madison County.
Robert S. McCune
June 22, 1955 - Dec. 7, 2002
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, December 11) at 2 p.m. for Robert S. McCune, Jr. at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Ira Scott officiating. Burial will be made in Glen Cove Cemetery.
McCune, 47, a former Knightstown resident, resided in Indianapolis. He was born June 22, 1955 in Greenfield, a son of Robert S. and Louise E. (Pitts) McCune. He served in the U.S. Army and on November 27, 1986, he married Diane Hager who survives.
Surviving with his wife, are his step-father, Dale Pitts, Sr. of Rushville; three step-daughters, Michelle Smith of Indianapolis, Sherry Ann Smith, Morristown and Ronnell Smith of Indianapolis; six brothers, Don McCune and James McCune, both of Greenfield, Marty Pearson of Ingalls, Rusty Harrell, Martinsville, Dale Pitts Jr., New Castle and Karl Pitts, Knightstown; one sister, Diane Crawford of Greenfield; and six grandchildren.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
Visitation for family and friends will be from noon until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
