Naomi E. Burns

Naomi E. Burns, 98, a resident of Greenfield, died Saturday, January 3 at her residence. She was born January 2, 1906 in Bloomfield, a daughter of the late Charles H. and Phoebe Bertha (Benham) Jordan.
Mrs. Burns was a 1923 graduate of Lyons High School, a 1928 graduate of Central Business College of Indianapolis and a 1956 graduate of Dale Carnegie Course in Fort Wayne. She retired in 1969 after 30 years of service as a dental assistant in Indianapolis and was a 20-year manager of Crestwood Apartments in Indianapolis. She was an active member of the Greenfield Christian Church, a member of the church’s Women’s Circle and the Zeta Club.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Farlin Edwards in 1971 and second husband, Cleo Burns in 1991.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, January 7) in the Greenfield Christian Church with Rev. Roland Pfile officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.
Visitation was held at the church from 9-11 a.m. prior to service. Arrangements were handled by the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.

Marie Lewman
May 14, 1917 – Jan. 13, 2004
Marie Marcella Lewman, 86, of Knightstown, died Tuesday, January 13 in Lynd House in Muncie. She was born May 14, 1917 in Henry County, a daughter of the late William and Nellie (Wilkinson) Charlton.
Mrs. Lewman lived in Henry County most of her life. She was an office worker at Prestige Portraits and a cook at Ball State University. She was a member of the East Street Christian Church in Carthage.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (husband Gary) Buntin of Muncie; two brothers, Virgil (wife Nina) Charlton of New Castle and William Charlton of Michigan; one sister, Mildred Davis of Bradenton, Fla.; one grandchild, Kevin R. (wife Cathy) Buntin of Houston, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Grady (wife Cathy) Wooten and Mandy (husband Justin) Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Justin Wooten and Erica Wooten of Jackson, Mo.; one step-great-grandchild, Shayne Murphy of Houston, Texas; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
On March 4, 1939 she married Lincoln Elwood Lewman and he preceded her in death in 1987. Also preceding her in death were six brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 17 at Todd Funeral Home, Knightstown, with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday, January 16 from 4-8 p.m.
Geneva Alleane Adams
Nov. 29, 1910 – Jan. 11, 2004
Geneva Alleane Adams, 93, of Greenwood, died January 11 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove.
Mrs. Adams was born November 29, 1910 in Shirley, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Iva (VanDynn) Ratliff.
Mrs. Adams served as head of nursing at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle. Mrs. Adams was also a member of the Shirley Eastern Star #492, Kennard Friends Church and the Kennard Historical Society.
She was married to Harry Adams and he preceded her in death in 1974. Other survivors include a daughter, Delores (husband, Donald) Delon of Greenwood; one grandson, Jeffrey Delon of Wanamaker; one granddaughter, Valerie Paul of Mooresville; five great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 15 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Howard Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with no graveside services.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with an Eastern Star service conducted at 7 p.m.

Bart K. Whittaker
July 29, 1960 – Jan. 10, 2004
Bart K. Whittaker, 43, of Falmouth, died at his residence Saturday, January 10. He was born July 29, 1960 at Rushville, a son of Paul and Mary (Hankins) Whittaker.
Mr. Whittaker lived in Falmouth for over 13 years and was the owner/operator of The Stumble Inn in Carthage. Mr. Whittaker was a member of the Rushville Eagles, Connersville AMVets and the Moose Lodge.
He married Roxanna Bolser on June 24, 1983 and she survives. Other survivors include his mother, Mary Whittaker of Rushville; two brothers, Steve Whittaker of Greensburg and Mark Whittaker of Sunman; three sisters, Shirley Strain of Rushville, Judy Blake of Hamilton, Ohio, and Carolyn Sue (husband, Robert) Puckett of Connersville.
He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Kenneth Paul Whittaker; a brother, Ronnie; and a sister, Theresa.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 in Rushville’s East Hill Cemetery with Tony Augsburger officiating.
Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 4-8 p.m. at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville.
Jerald Griffin
Nov. 13, 1947 – Jan. 8, 2004
Jerald Griffin, 56, of Carthage died Thursday, Jan. 8 in Hancock Memorial Hospital at Greenfield following a 2-year illness. He was born November 13, 1947, a son of Charles and Martha (Horn) Griffin in New Castle.
Mr. Griffin lived most of his life in Carthage and was a truck driver.
On November 14, 1954, he married Marsha Brown and she survives. Other survivors are: one son, Mike Griffin of Carthage; one daughter, Lori (husband Ron) Logan, Carthage; two brothers, James (wife Betty) Griffin of Carthage, and Charles Griffin of New Castle; three sisters, Judy (husband David) Leisure, New Castle, Tina (husband Maurice) Temples, New Castle, and Susan (husband Chris) Haywood of New Castle; and five grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 11 at the Todd Funeral Home in Carthage with Rev. David Bonne officiating.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday from 1-4 p.m. prior to the service.

Mary Imogene Jones
Mar. 2, 1916 – Jan. 9, 2004
Mary Imogene Jones, 87, a resident of Eden, died Friday, January 9 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born March 2, 1916 in Wilkinson, a daughter of the late John R. and Margaret Pearl (Slaughter) Walker.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker who loved her family and enjoyed traveling with them. She was a member of the Wilkinson Church of Christ, the Zeta Club of Hancock County and attended Shiloh Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Paul (wife Lillian) Jones, Jr. of Pendleton, Dr. Jay (wife Brenda) Jones of Greenfield, and Jerry Jones of Pendleton; two daughters, Marjorie (husband Joe) Beyers of Charlottesville and Susan (husband Stephen) Hine of Howell, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Jones, March 1, 1993; two brothers, Earnest and Erman Walker in 1914; and a sister, Frances Lucas in 2000.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 13 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Russell Jarvis officiating. Burial was in Mendon Cemetery, Pendleton. Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, January 12.

Wanda Irene Medlin
Nov. 25, 1926 – Jan. 14, 2004
Wanda Irene (Collins) Medlin, 77, a resident of Knightstown, died January 14 at University Heights Nursing Home in Indianapolis. She was born November 25, 1926 in Pardee, Va., a daughter of the late John and Linda (Smith) Collins.
Mrs. Medlin was an employee for Guide Lamp for 32 years, a member of Knightstown Friends Church, Eastern Star, Cadiz Lions Club and the Knightstown American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (husband Larry) Mayes of Greenwood; one granddaughter, Tabitha M. Hitt of Indianapolis; one grandson, Larry James Mayes II of Greenwood; one great-granddaughter, Kahlei Ann Hitt; five sisters, Juanita Collins of Indianapolis, Shirley Elkins of Virginia, Louise Collins of Maryland, Pauline Robertson and Peggy Duncan, both of Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe K. Medlin in 1986 and by a brother, T.J. Collins.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 19 at Condo & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Sitler officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, January 18 with Eastern Star services at 4 p.m.
