Gathel McCorkle

Gathel McCorkle, a resident of Carthage most of her life, died November 7. She was born February 5, 1925 in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas and Daisy (Logan) McClurg.
She was an industrious and talented person, an avid reader, self-taught singer, pianist, guitarist, did oil painting, needlework and wrote numerous poems and a genealogy book on the family.
Gathel was married to Lowell McCorkle of Carthage and he preceded her in death in 1985.
She is survived by one son, Richard Lowell McCorkle of Knightstown; three granddaughters, one grandson, four great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; one brother, Dewey McClurg of Indianapolis; and one sister, Dorothy Richey of Knightstown.
Besides her parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 10 at Todd Funeral Home, Carthage.
Pastor Randy Sidwell officiated at the service held Monday, November 10.
Dorothy Mae Snodgress

Dorothy Mae (Bailey) Snodgress, 90, a lifelong resident of the Kennard Community, died Thursday, November 27 at Heritage House of New Castle following an extended illness. She was born May 4, 1913 near Kennard, a daughter of the late Aulbert and Hattie (Collins) Bailey.
Mrs. Snodgress was a member of the Kennard Friends Church and the Household Circle of the church.
Survivors include one son, Phillip (wife Nancy) Snodgress of Greensburg; three daughters, Norma (husband John) Beavers of Kennard, Judy (husband Jim) Thurman of New Castle, and Myrna (husband Doug) Reeves of Knightstown; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Howard Snodgress on August 28, 1991; three brothers, Kenneth Bailey in infancy, Maurice Bailey in 1985, and Hubert Bailey; two stepbrothers, Russell and Joe Cook.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 1 in the Kennard Friends Church with Pastor Lou Herchenroeder and Joe Beavers officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown.
Visitation was held at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson Sunday, November 30.

Glenn D. McIntosh

Glenn D. McIntosh, 85, of Knightstown died Sunday, November 30 at The Waters of New Castle following an extended illness. He was born November 8, 1918 in Irvin, Ky., a son of the late Joseph and Julia (Barnes) McIntosh.
A resident of Knightstown for over 60 years, he retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1974 after 33 years of service. Mr. McIntosh was a member of the Mays Lions Club and attended Smyrna Baptist Church in Spiceland and Faith Chapel in Knightstown. He loved fishing, camping, both flower and vegetable gardening, broom making and making homemade wines.
Survivors included his wife, Juanita McIntosh; one son, Jackie Ray (wife Anita) McIntosh of Spiceland; three daughters, Geraldean (husband Dory) Gross of Cambridge City, Judy Rucker of Carthage, and Sylvia (husband Bill) Hatfield of Knightstown; daughter-in-law, Kathleen McIntosh of Paintlick, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two-great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald (wife Jeanette) McIntosh of New Castle; one aunt, Nancy Spicer of Florence, Wisc.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, David McIntosh; his stepmother, Kistara; three brothers, Elmer, Ora Dale and Ray McIntosh; one half-brother, Richard McIntosh; two half-sisters, Bonnie Logan and Velma Marie McIntosh; a stepbrother, Henry King; and a stepsister, Mary Vise.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 4 at Smyrna Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Delon and Rev. Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 4 at Smyrna Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Smyrna Baptist Church, Faith Chapel Church or the Mays Lions Club with envelopes available at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Hinsey Brown Funeral Service.
Herschel J. Hagner

Knightstown resident Herschel J. Hagner, 90, died Saturday, November 29 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born November 17, 1913 in New Castle, a son of the late John G. and Ary (Shafer) Hagner.
Mr. Hagner owned and operated The Garment Cleaners in Knightstown retiring in 1979. He had worked at Swiss Cleaners at New Castle before opening his own business, and had also worked at New Castle Chrysler Corp. He was a member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church, Knightstown Masonic Lodge #16 F & AM, Shrine and Scottish Rite, 50-year member of the Knightstown American Legion, former member of the Chamber of Commerce, K of P Lodge and Kiwanis Club. He was World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Anna (Wissler) Hagner of Knightstown; three daughters, Beth Ann Shirokawa of Corona, Calif., Faye Ellen (husband Charles) Loof of Orange, Calif., and Mary Alice (husband Larry) Wilson of New Castle; three grandchildren, Brad Alan Wilson, Paul Isamu Shirokawa and John Shirokawa; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie King of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Allius, Jesse, William and John Hagner; one sister, Ruth Hagner; a half-brother, Herbert Harris and a half-sister, Ellen Boyd.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, December 3) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Steve Brackney officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, December 2 with Masonic services at 7 p.m.

Clesta Oral Helderbrand

Clesta Oral Helderbrand, 81, of Vanceburg, Ky., died Monday, December 22 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1922 in Carter County, Ky., a son of the late John Harvey and Bessie (Henderson) Helderbrand.
Mr. Helderbrand was a former employee of Ball Engineering and Electronics and was a WW II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Stamper Helderbrand; four sons, Ronald Helderbrand of Carthage, Randy, Kevin and Terry Helderbrand, all of Knightstown; one daughter, Helen Kay Elam of Vanceburg, Ky.; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Luster Helderbrand and Everett Allen Helderbrand, both of Olive Hill, Ky., Romey Helderbrand of Carthage, and Leronis Helderbrand of Tullalah, La.; and three sisters, Opal Rayburn of Emerson, Ky., Vesta Ellison of Kennard, and Bethel Loftis of Gordon, W. Va.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Helderbrand in 1991, four brothers, Laverne, Luther and twin brothers, Eric and Artist Helderbrand, and three sisters, Olive Ellison, Martha Riley and Alma Hamm.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27 at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky., officiated by Randy Gross and Duel Loftis. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery in Lewis County, Ky.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Friday, December 26 and prior to the service on Saturday.
Victoria L. Shaw

Victoria L. Shaw, 43, a resident of Anderson, died Thursday, December 18 at her residence. She was born December 13, 1960 in Greenfield, a daughter of James A. and Linda L. (Messersmith) Shaw.
Ms. Shaw was a graduate of Madison Heights High School and Alexandria School of Scientific Therapeutics. She had worked at Madison County Abstract and Owens Brockway at Lapel and was a member of the Pendleton Lyons Club.
Survivors include her mother, Linda Shaw of Anderson; one sister, Valerie Shaw of Anderson, one uncle, Mike Messersmith of Dunkirk; one aunt, Becky Watson of Muncie; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Shaw; paternal grandparents, James M. and Frances Shaw; maternal grandfather, Leonard Messersmith; and maternal grandmother, Evelyn Semans.
Graveside services were held Saturday, December 20 at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was held prior to the services on Saturday.

Clay R. Kimble

Clay R. Kimble, 75, a resident of Pendleton, died Tuesday, December 16 at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson. He was born March 15, 1928 in Anderson, a son of Wayne and cluster (Reeve) Kimble.
Mr. Kimble retired after 30 years of service from the Indiana Reformatory in Pendleton. He was an U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Cloverdale Church of God, Main Street Church of God and the Pendleton American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Martha (Clarkson) Kimble of Pendleton; two sons, Jeff (wife Renee) Kimble of Anderson, and Curtis (wife Tammy) Kimble of Alexandria; three daughters, Marla (husband Frank) Littell of Markleville, Alesia (husband Tim) Helbert of Anderson and Elaine (friend Jeff Belcher) Kimble of Anderson; 15 grandchildren, two of which he raised (Chauncy and Lela), Mathew, Joe, Tabatha, Jacob, Katy, Ben, Mari Opal, Dustin, James, Kami, Sarah, Charles and Irene; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jack and Paul Kimble; two sisters, Phyllis Burke Burke and Nancy Allen; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Kimble, a sister, Shirley Alfrey and a brother, Dale Kimble.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 19 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Glenn Skinner officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday, December 19 and prior to the service on Friday.
