Claude E. Sparks
Oct. 21, 1920 – Oct. 24, 2003
Claude E. “Sparky” Sparks, 83, of Spiceland died Friday, October 24 at Heritage House of New Castle after a brief illness. He was born October 21, 1920 in New Castle, a son of the late Arthur A. and Mary Myrtle (Bostick) Sparks.
Mr. Sparks retired in December of 1982 after 30 years of service with Chrysler Corp. in the Forge show and had farmed for several years in Spiceland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was a member of the VFW #1282 and bowled with several leagues for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Ann Hinshaw of New Castle and Kelly (husband Monte) Langley of Spiceland; four sons, Jeffrey (wife Amy) Sparks of Hagerstown, Gregory (wife Roberta) Sparks of Daytona Beach, Fla., Timothy Sparks of New Castle, and Tracy Sparks of Spiceland; five granddaughters; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; four sisters, Betty (husband Dale) Jones of Port Orange, Fla., Ollie Saver, Lillie Bundy and Dorothy Larrison, all of New Castle; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rozetta on May 13, 2000; and two sisters, Vada May Sparks and Beulah Prewitt.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 27 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial was in Green Hills Memory Gardens with military rites provided by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, October 26. Memorial contributions may be given to the Caring Friends Support Group through Mental Health Association.
William “Bill” Williamson
Oct. 8, 1945 – Nov. 4, 2003
Lewisville resident, William “Bill” Williamson, 58, died Tuesday, November 4 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie after a brief illness. Bill was born October 8, 1945 in Richmond, a son of the late Elmer and June M. (Jenkins) Williamson.
Mr. Williamson had lived in Lewisville most of his life. He was an U.S. Army veteran and graduated from Lewisville High School with the Class of 1964. He was an insurance salesman and worked for several years for Ameriana Insurance Agency of New Castle. He attended the Lewisville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one brother, Ted Williamson of Riverdale, Ga.; four sisters, Helen Williamson of Richmond, Linda Brown of Lewisville, Rebecca (husband Marvin) Railsback of Centerville, and Mary Ann (husband Tony) Hickman of Lewisville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father June 9, 1974 and his mother on April 23, 1993.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 8 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Rev. Linda Philabaum officiating. Burial was in Lewisville Cemetery in Lewisville.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Friday, November 7.
Clyde E. Ruby
Sept. 30, 1920 – Oct. 11, 2003
Clyde E. Ruby, 83, of Estero, Fla. died Saturday, October 11. He was born September 30, 1920 in Westland, a son of the late Donald and Beatrice (Hunt) Ruby.
Clyde owned and operated Rubys’ Corner Market in Carthage for 31 years before retiring to Estero, Fla. In Carthage, he was a member of East Street Christian Church, Lion’s Club and the Masonic Lodge. In Florida, he was a charter member of Anchor Christian Church, Bonita Springs where he served as an elder for a number of years. Clyde was graduated from Carthage High School in 1938.
Survivors include his wife, Arminta, whom he married in 1938; two daughters, Cathy (Harry) Siderys of Indianapolis, and Arlene Whitfield of Shelbyville; one sister, Betty Ellis of Ft. Myers; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A son, Michael, preceded him in death.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on November 7 at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel with Rev. David Bonne officiating.
Friends may call 1-3 p.m. prior to the service.
The family request memorial contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Margaret L. Power
Mar. 10, 1916 – Oct. 27, 2003
Margaret L. Power, 87, a resident of Falls Church, Va. and a former resident of the Wilkinson community, died at her residence Monday, October 27. She was born March 10, 1916, a daughter of the late David Downing and Martha (Steffan) Shaw.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Romero of Falls Church, Va.; one son, John Power of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell O. Power; a son, Tim Power; and a brother, John D. Shaw.
Memorial services were held Saturday, November 1 at McCray Cemetery with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
Mary E. Walters
Mar. 2, 1912 – Oct. 29, 2003
Mary E. Walters, 81, a former resident of the Shirley and Greenfield Community, died Wednesday, October 29 at Regency Place Healthcare Center in Greenfield. She was born March 2, 1912 in Hancock County, a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Johns) Ware.
Mrs. Walters retired in 1978 from Ranch Supermarket in Greenfield and was a member of the Wilkinson Brotherhood and Sister. She lived all her life in Shirley and Greenfield. She will be remembered by her friends from working at Reasner Drugstore and Ranch Supermarket.
Survivors include her husband, Don Walters of Greenfield; one son, Richard Ware of Wilkinson; two daughters, Alberta Calland of Greenfield and Carolyn Grass of Shirley; six grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lena Swan of Marion and Alice Smith of Anderson; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Merle, Lore, Billy, Carol and two infants; and three sisters, Marie Felix, Mae Goodwin and Martha Cramer.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 3 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, November 2.

Sue Hutson
Nov. 14, 1942 – Oct. 30, 2003
Sue Hutson, 60, a resident of Shirley and former resident of Kennard, died at her home on Thursday, October 30. She was born November 14, 1942 in New castle, a daughter of Charles and Ruth (Green) Lockridge.
Mrs. Hutson had worked in the Admissions Office for Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle. She was a member of the Kennard Christian Church, the Cross Stitch Club and the BSF Bible Study Group.
Survivors include her father, Charles Lockridge of Kennard; two sons, Timothy Hutson of Fishers and Bradley Hutson of Muncie; a daughter, Cheri Hutson of Shirley; and a sister, Jan Lockridge of Atlanta, Ga.
Her mother, Ruth Lockridge, preceded her in death in 1990.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 4 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Marion McFarland officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery in Middletown.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Monday, November 3.

Doris Ann Wallace
Sept. 25, 1939 – Nov. 1, 2003
Doris Ann Wallace, 64, of Spiceland, died Saturday, November 1 in Henry County Memorial Hospital following a 22-year battle with multiple sclerosis. She was born September 25, 1939 in Henry County, a daughter of the late George H. and Lydia (Pemberton) Lee.
A lifetime resident of Henry County, she lived in Greensboro and Spiceland most of her life. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at Kennard High School in 1957. She worked briefly at Doug’s Restaurant in New Castle. Her most prized activities were spending time with her grandchildren, playing the piano and she was an avid reader. She had attended the Greensboro Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Kedric Wallace of Spiceland; four children, Jennifer (husband John) McCord of Mt. Summit, Michael (wife Suzanne) Wallace of New Castle, Lauren Jane Wallace of Spiceland, and Mark (wife Melissa) Wallace of New Castle; grandchildren, Courtney Wallace, Amanda McCord, Cooper Wallace, Bradley McCord, Brian McCord, Molly McCord, Madeline Wallace, Benjamin Wallace and Jack Wallace; three sisters, Betty Stonerock, Coleen (husband Arnold) Turpin and Nelle Wallace, all of Greensboro; a brother, Hugh (wife Carol) Lee of Middletown; and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Woodward of Straughn and Annis Wallace of Greensboro.
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-in-law; a sister, Bertie Lou Lee; and six brothers-in-law, Carol Stonerock, Donald Wallace, Phillip Wallace, Ray Wallace, Sammie Wallace and Max Woodward.
Services will be held at 10:30 today (Wednesday, November 5) at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Glenn Hughes and David Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, November 4. Memorial contributions may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
