Horace E. Hunt

Horace E. Hunt, 84 of Silver Springs, died September 11 at Marion House Health Care Center.
The native of Hancock County was a welder of Chrysler Automotive Corp. He was a Mason and a member of the Moose and Eagles lodges. His hobbies included flying his airplane, motorcycle riding, boating, fishing, hunting and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vesta Hunt of Silver Springs; one daughter of Silver Springs; one grandson; and one brother, Russell Hunt of Spiceland.
James C. Ratliff
Nov. 8, 1927 – Sept. 28, 2003
James C. Ratliff, 75, a resident of Shirley, died at his residence Sunday, September 28. He was born November 8, 1927 in Knightstown, the son of the late Harold and Harriett (Taylor) Ratliff.
Mr. Ratliff owned and operated Ratliff Jewelry Store in Knightstown where he was a certified master watch and jewelry maker. He was vice-president of Shirley-Knightstown-Carthage Railroad. He was a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge #16, the Eastern Star of Shirley #492, Knightstown Friends Church and the Odd Fellows. The graduate of Knightstown High School and Earlham College was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Delores (Mitchener) Ratliff of Shirley and a stepdaughter, Sandra (husband Jack) Rowe of Chesterfield.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 30 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Chris Sitler officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with military graveside rites. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the services.
Contributions may be made to James C. Ratliff family in care of the funeral home.
Kerstin Brooke Linville
Aug. 14, 2003 – Sept. 27, 2003
Kerstin Brooke Linville, infant daughter of Brooke N. Hicks and Brian L. Linville, died Saturday, September 27 at her residence in Carthage. Kerstin was born in Indianapolis on August 14.
Survivors besides her parents include two brothers, Kolton Ross and Aaron Scot Linville, both of Carthage; maternal grandparents, Jeff and Darla Jackson of Knightstown, and Bob Hicks of New Castle; maternal great-grandmother, Betty L. Kise of Knightstown and maternal great-grandparents, John and Judy Jackson of Carthage; paternal grandparents, Mike and Claudette Wilson of Carthage and Jack Linville of New Castle.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, October 1) at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown. Private burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services today.
Almira G. Stevens
Sept. 1, 1917 – Oct. 19, 2003
Former Knightstown resident, Almira G. Stevens, 76, of Brownsburg died Sunday, October 19 at Millers Merry Manor in New Carlisle. She was born September 1, 1917 in Knightstown, a daughter of the late George and Opha (Moffitt) Green.
Mrs. Stevens, a homemaker, was a graduate of Knightstown High School. She was a member of White Harvest Methodist Church in Indianapolis, member of Eastern Star in Knightstown, former Deaconess at First Congregational Church in Oak Lawn, Ill., and former president of Womens Guild of United Church of Christ in Oak Lawn, Ill.
Survivors include three sons, Michael R. Stevens of Frankfort, Ill., Timothy K. Stevens, Falls Church, Va., and Mark L. Stevens of Savannah, Ga.; three daughters, Sharon J. Skinner of Lakeview, Ohio, Karen D. Kunde, Hudson, Fla. and Mary Beth Nell of Brownsburg; one brother, Dale Green of Middletown; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip D. Stevens February 16, 1987.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 23 at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, followed by burial in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
C. Worth Hodson
Sept. 24, 1909 – Oct. 20, 2003
C. Worth Hodson, 94, a longtime Rush County resident, died Monday, October 20 at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He was born September 24, 1909 in Hendricks County, a son of the late Bert and Iva Hayworth Hodson.
Mr. Hodson lived most of his life in Center Township, Rush County. He was a 1927 graduate of Amo High School and attended Purdue University. He married Amanda Reeves April 28, 1934 and she preceded him in death January 3, 1999.
Worth was actively farming the same farm in Center Township for over 70 years, as he never retired. He was known statewide as a breeder of Hereford cattle and had done that for nearly 70 years. He was a 70-year member of the Center Christian Church where he had been Sunday School teacher, church board member and an elder for over 30 years. More recently, he had attended Rushville Church of Christ.
Also, he was an honorary Rush County Fair board member, past member of the Rush Co. School Board, and for many years held perfect attendance at the Rushville Kiwanis Club. He was on the founding board of the East Hill Shrine Mausoleum in the 1950s and was still serving as a member of the board. He was on the Rush County Agricultural Hall of Fame as well as the Purdue Agricultural Hall of Fame and was a member of the Salvation Army board of directors.
Survivors include three sons, Joe (wife Toni) Hodson of rural Rushville, Jim (wife Barb) Hodson who lives on his father’s farm on S.R. 3, and Eugene Hodson of Amo; one sister, Maxine Brown of Indianapolis; four granddaughters, Susan Rogers of Rushville, Beverly Varness of Juneau, Alaska, Natasha Orme of Rushville and Kathy Schooley, Old Hickory, Tenn; four grandsons, Brian Hodson of Rushville, Donald Hodson of Avon, Rick Hodson of Martinsville and David Hodson of Coatesville; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Edna Jane Rogers in 1994, and one brother, Glen Hodson in 1992.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 23 at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with Bill Worrell and Pastor Jerry Holdman officiating. Entombment will take place in the East Hill Shrine Mausoleum.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, October 22) at Moster & Cox Mortuary.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the building fund of the Center Christian Church, the East Hill Shrine Mausoleum or the Salvation Army.
Pamela L. Riggs
April 16, 1949 – Oct. 14, 2003
Pamela L. Riggs, 54, a resident of Shirley died Tuesday, October 14 after an extended illness. She was born April 16, 1949, a daughter of Margaret Davis Rockhold Jordan and Russell Rockhold.
Mrs. Riggs, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, lived in West Virginia most of her life, moving to Indiana in 1989. On November 17, 1996, she married Robert G. Riggs of rural Shirley where they lived until her death. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Middletown.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Riggs of Shirley; twin daughters, Margaret (husband Larry) Francis of Belmont, W. Va. and Lisa (husband Eduardo) Romero of Middletown; one son, James Richard (wife Peggy) Jonas of Albion; grandson, Erik Jonas, Chris Francis and Zachary Jonas; granddaughters, Margaret Estrada and Cody Jonas.
Memorial services were held Friday, October 17 at the United Methodist Church in Middletown with Pastor Jeff Landon officiating. Visitation was held prior to services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in Middletown.
Julie A. Trent
Jan. 11, 1938 – Oct. 12, 2003
Julie A. Trent, 65, a resident of Knightstown, died Sunday, October 12 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born January 11, 1938 in Indiana, a daughter of the late George and Anna (Magee) Youse. Mrs. Trent was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Norfleet of Knightstown and Paula (husband Robert) Ottinger of Knightstown; four grandchildren, Christi Thornton, Tianne Norfleet, Chelsa Norfleet and Shaylee Norfleet; and two great-grandchildren, Ciera Thorndike and Christian Thorndike.
Her husband, Bobby Trent, preceded her in death in 1996.
Graveside services will be held at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown today (Wednesday, October 15) at 10 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson is in charge of arrangements.
