Mildred Lucille Hunt

April 2, 1916 – Aug. 28, 2003

Mildred Lucille (Snodgress) Hunt, 87, a longtime resident of the Kennard community, died Thursday, August 28 at her residence after a long illness. She was born April 2, 1916 in Henry County, a daughter of the late Clint and Lucy (Reese) Snodgress.

Mrs. Hunt was a homemaker and owner of Hunts Restaurant. She was a member of the Greensboro Friends Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Nellie (husband Alan) Ashbrook of Russell Springs, Ky.; one son, Earl (wife Sharon) Hunt of Kennard; four grandsons, Phil and Rex Miller of Russell Springs, Ky. and Danny Hunt of Shirley and Sonny Hunt of New Castle; two step-granddaughters, Jennifer Lucas of Lancaster, S.C. and Lisa Burris of New Castle; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul E. Hunt on April 26, 1998, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 2 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Mark Simmermon officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, September 1.

Richard T. Hill

June 19, 1922 – Aug. 31, 2003

Richard T. Hill, 81, a resident of Knightstown, died Sunday, August 31 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield after a brief illness. He was born June 19, 1922 in Fargo, N.D., a son of the late Otis and Esther (Terrill) Hill.

Mr. Hill was a retired heavy equipment operator and was a member of Local 102 Operating Engineers and the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Luella (Jacobs) Hill of Knightstown; two sons, William (wife Patricia) Hill of Knightstown, and William Lee (wife Deborah) Harrison of Greenfield; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 4 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery at Knightstown.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, September 3.

Henry R. Barnes

Nov. 2, 1924 – Aug. 21, 2003

Henry R. Barnes, 78, of Knightstown, died Thursday, August 21 in Henry Co. Memorial Hospital. He was born November 2, 1924 in Wayne Co., Ky., a son of the late John and May (Rhoades) Barnes.

Mr. Barnes had lived in Knightstown most of his life. He was a U.A.W. worker and a member of U.A. W #663. He was a member of the Four Square Christian Church in New Castle, Golden Rule Lodge #16 F&AM, Sons of American Legion and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica Barnes whom he married September 24, 1987; three daughters, Sharon (husband Warren) Smith of Greenfield, Juanda (husband Phil) Rose of Greenfield, and Carol (husband Bill) Charles of Spiceland; one brother, Phillip (wife Patty) Barnes of New Castle; three grandsons, Art Rose of Greenwood, Rob Hall of Greenfield and Sam Charles of Spiceland; three granddaughters, Amy Ellis of Greenfield, Teresa Kelnhofer of Tolono, Ill. and Cindy Brooks of Spiceland.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jewell Jordan Barnes, on September 16, 1984; two brothers; and one sister.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 25 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Pastor J. Allen Southerland officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, August 24 from 4-8 p.m. with Masonic services at 8 p.m.

Lavon Wooldridge

Oct. 16, 1912 – Aug. 24, 2003

Lavon Wooldridge, 90, of Falmouth died Sunday, August 24 in Rush Memorial Hospital, Rushville. She was born October 16, 1912 in Rush County, a daughter of Chester and Dora Brock Short.

Mrs. Wooldridge lived in Rush County her whole life, mainly in the Gings and Raleigh areas. She worked at the Durbin Hotel for 24 years, retiring from there as a kitchen manager. She was a member of the Plum Creek Christian Church and a member of the Ladies Aid of the Church. On October 12, 1926, she married George C. Wooldridge and he preceded her in death June 13, 1962.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Wooldridge and Richard Wooldridge, both of Knightstown, Larry Wooldridge of Chapala, Mexico, and John Wooldridge of Straughn; three daughters, Marilyn Schwendenman of Rushville, Connie (husband Paris Jr.) Cross of Mays and Charlotte (husband Derek) Spilman of Rushville; 25 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Charles Levi of Decatur.

Mrs. Wooldridge was preceded in death by two sons, William and Charles; one sister, Esther Levi; a brother, Robert Short; three grandsons and one great-grandson.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, August 27) at the Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with Pastor Jerry Holdman officiating. Burial will be in the Little Blue River Cemetery in Rush County.

Visitation was Tuesday, August 26 at the Mortuary.

Marvin E. Vaughn

Nov. 28, 1925 – Aug. 23, 2003

Knightstown resident Marvin E. Vaughn, 77, died Saturday, August 23 in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born November 28, 1925 in Lizton, a son of the late Artie and Ollie (Marple) Vaughn.

Mr. Vaughn had been a truck driver for Clements Trucking Co. and a bus driver for Charles A. Beard School Corp. He married Grace “Lee” Cline Pickett Vaughn who preceded him in death on September 5, 2001.

He is survived by three sons, Marshall E. (wife Dorothy) Vaughn of Carthage, Danny Dean (Pat) Vaughn of Titusville, Fla. and Jerry Wayne Vaughn of Indianapolis; one daughter, Jessica Ann Vaughn of Knightstown; a twin brother, Merl Vaughn of Liberty, Ky.; two step-daughters, Sherry Pickett of Indianapolis and Shannon Pickett Young of Hopewell, N.J.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Services were held Tuesday, August 26 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, Knightstown, with Rev. Mark Tabb officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.

Visitation was held prior to the service on Tuesday, August 26.

Joy L. Gillespie

April 7, 1956 – Sept. 6, 2003

Joy L. Gillespie, 47, a resident of Markleville, died Saturday, September 6 at St. Johns Hospital in Anderson. She was born April 7, 1956 in Anderson, a daughter of H. Daniel Owens of Indianapolis and Marilyn (Stohler) Dyer of Anderson.

Joy was a homemaker and a candy maker and enjoyed running her candy business at festivals all year where she made many friends. She was also a gourmet cook and loved home schooling her children. She was a beloved wife and friend.

Surviving besides her parents is her husband, Stephen Gillespie of Markleville; two daughters, Bonnie Joy and Brynne Muire June Gillespie of Markleville; a brother, Daniel Owens of Indianapolis; two nieces, Jenny and Hannah Owens of Indianapolis; a nephew, Mark Owens of Indianapolis; and stepfather, Paul Dyer of Anderson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Emery Reece officiating. Burial was in Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Monday, September 8.

Mary Christinia Davis

April 30, 1948 – Sept. 10, 2003

Mary Christinia (Johnson) Davis, 55, of Greenfield, died Thursday, September 4 in Greenfield. She was born April 30, 1948 in Greenfield, a daughter of the late Virgil and Fannie (McClendon) Johnson.

Mrs. Davis attended Eastern Hancock High School and was a member of the Knightstown Church of God.

She married Alan Davis February 28, 1976 and he survives. Other survivors include three sons, Donnie McKeeman of Greenfield, Robert Davis and David Davis, both of Greenfield; three brothers, Zelmar Johnson of Charlottesville, Clarence Johnson of Willow Branch and Ferris Johnson of Philadelphia.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma and Regina Johnson and Faye Lucas; one brother, Delmar Johnson.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 8 at Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Early Hall officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery.

Visitation was at the funeral home Sunday, September 7.
