Mary Helen Pyke

Mary Helen Pyke, 93 of Olive Branch, Miss., and a former resident of Knightstown, died Tuesday, December 10 at a Memphis, Tenn. hospital. She was born July 24, 1909 in Tipton County, a daughter of the late Orta Wyrick and Nancy Harlow Wyrick.
Mrs. Pyke was a homemaker and a member of the Deland, Fla. Plymouth Ave. Christian Church. She married Lester M. Pyke on August 21, 1926 and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1999.
She had been in the Memphis, Tenn. area since 1999. Prior to that she spent several years in Knightstown, Florida and spent her early life in the Orange-Glenwood community.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Tanya (husband Chuck) Netherly, Olive Branch, Miss. and Yvonne Pyke of St. Pierce, Fla.; two grandsons, Dana Brown of Rushville and Mark Pyke of Ft. Pierce, Fla; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, one daughter, a sister and brother. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 at East Hill Shrine Mausoleum in Rushville with Rev. Bill R. Worrell officiating. Entombment will take place in the East Hill Shrine Mausoleum. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:30 at the mausoleum. Moster & Cox Mortuary of Rushville are in charge of arrangements. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.
Howard E. Newkirk
Dec. 21, 1917 – Feb. 22, 2001
Howard E. Newkirk, 83, of Dunreith, died Thursday, February 22 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield following a brief illness.
He was born Dec 21, 1917 in Rush County, a son of the late James and Alta (Stevens) Newkirk.
Mr. Newkirk retired after 25 years of service as a sales manager for Draper Inc. in Spiceland. He was a former employee of Kiger & Company in Dunreith and Ingersol in New Castle. He was also a self-employed carpenter. Newkirk served as a deacon, elder, treasurer and past president of the board of directors at Dunreith Christian Church. He was a former fire chief for the Dunreith VFD, former Dunreith town board president, member of the South Henry Regional Waste District, Spiceland F&AM #699, past patron Lewisville OES #436, and Knightstown York Rite. He was also a member of the National Road Preservation Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marshall (Annie) Noel of Noblesville; a grandson, Scott (wife, Karen) Noel of Noblesville; a great grandson, Andrew; a special friend, Mary Coffman of Spiceland, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Newkirk, a brother, Robert Newkirk, and a sister, Shelby Linville.
Serves were at 10 a.m. Monday, February 26 at Dunreith Christian Church with Kenton Smith officiating. Burial Followed in East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Visitation was at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, February, 25.

David R. McFarland
Oct 16, 1929 – Dec 14, 2002
David R. McFarland, 73, died Saturday, December 14 in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie. A son of the late Ralph and Genevieve Schiltnecht McFarland, David was born in rural Lewisville on October 16, 1929. A lifetime Lewisville area resident, Dave graduated from the Lewisville High School with the class of 1947, where he participated on the basketball and baseball teams; he attended Purdue University. David was a prominent area farmer and had served as president and junior director for the Indiana State Angus Association. He served on the South Henry School Board for several years and was also the leader of the Franklin Township Boys 4-H Club. AS a licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying. He was a member of the Lewisville Presbyterian Church and served as deacon of the church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Maxine Finchumwhom he married December 24, 1949 in Lewisville; one son, Kent D. McFarland of Lewisville; two daughters, Diane (husband Bryan) Kendrick of Farmland, and Nanette (husband Stephen) Welsh of Spiceland; four grandchildren, Russell and Ryan Cronk and Bryce and Chase Welsh; three great grandchildren, Cody, Shawna and Avery Cronk.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, (Wednesday, December 18) at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville. Pastor Linda Philabaun will officiate at the service with family, friends, Mick Saunders and Arthur Whitaker assisting. Burial will follow I the South Mound Cemetery at New Castle. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 17 at the funeral home.
Charlotte Roberts
Jan 18, 1938 – Dec 14, 2002
Charlotte Ann Roberts, 64, a resident of Knightstown, died at her residence Saturday, December 14. She was born January 18, 1938 in Carthage, a daughter of Charles Bernard and Helen (Mattix) Caldwell. On April 7, 1956, she married James Alfred “Rusty” Roberts, Sr. in Ogden.
Mrs. Roberts was born and raised in Carthage and was a former resident of Spiceland and Eaton. She had been a Knightstown resident since 1994. She attended Carthage High School and was a former member of the Eaton Nazarene Church and the Raysville Friends Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Alfred Roberts, Jr. of Knightstown; her mother Helen Caldwell of Westport; five sons, James Alfred Roberts, Jr. of Spiceland, Dennis Edward Roberts, New Castle, Jon Roberts of Bunker Hill, Charles “Chuck” Roberts of Muncie and James Daniel Roberts of Greenfield; one daughter, Kristi Ann Hart of Marion; one sister. Dorothy Gasper of Westport; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Bernard Caldwell, one son, Robert Allen Roberts and one granddaughter, Savannah Roberts.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, December 18) at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Paul R. Litten and Jeremy Hart officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held Tuesday, December 17 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society.
Viva Myers Oesterling
April 12, 1920 – Dec 16, 2002
Viva Myers Oesterling, 92, of Spiceland died unexpectedly Monday, December 16 at her residence. She was born April 2, 1910 in Henry County, a daughter of the late Newton and Nola (Munden) Keesling.
Mrs. Oesterling retired from Cadiz High School in 1980, where she had worked in the cafeteria for about 30 years. She was a member of the Center Chapel Ladies Aide. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and square dancing.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Myers of Houston, Texas and Charles (wife Joyce) Myers of Spiceland; one daughter, Judith M. (husband Jack) Myers Avery of Knightstown; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Parnell “Bud” Myers, her second Husband, Frank Oesterling, one brother and one sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 19 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Rev. Allen Southerland officiating. Burial will follow in Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 18 at the funeral home.
Raymond A. Pasko
May 11, 1939 – Mar. 1, 2001
Raymond A. Pasko, 61, of rural Wilkinson, died March 1 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness.
He was born May 11, 1939 in Huntington, a son of Edwin Pasko and the Helen (Scott) Pasko.
The 1957 graduate of Wilkinson High School worked for Farmers Elevator in Oakville as a grain merchant and had been in the grain business for over 45 years. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a member of the Shirley Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church, Shirley Masonic Lodge $531 and Shirley Eastern Star #492.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Annabelle Pasko; two daughters, Amy (husband, Brandon) Blackwell, Las Vegas, NV, and Anissa (husband, Chris) Conley of Alexandria; his father and step-mother, Edwin and Ethel Pasko of Shirley; a step-daughter, Debbie (husband, Mike) Walker of Charlottesville; a stepson, Dewayne Wilson of Wilkinson; 9 grandchildren; a brother, Rex Pasko of Pendleton; two sisters, Barbara Willis of Wilkinson and Ruth Almeida of New Palestine; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 5 in the Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church in Shirley, with burial in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at the Condo & Son Funeral Home.

John Thomas Revolt, Jr.
Mar. 6, 1927 – Feb. 27, 2001
John Thomas Revolt, Jr., 73, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, February 27 at Hillside Haven Healthcare in Rushville.
He was born March 6, 1927 in Morris, Ill., a son of the late John T. Revolt, Sr., and Fern (Greer) Revolt.
Mr. Revolt had been a Carthage resident from 1933 until he moved to Indianapolis in 1964. He resided there until 1980 when he moved to Greenfield. He served in the U.S. Army during World War 2 and retired from Kroger Dairy in Indianapolis after 30 years of services. He was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage.
Survivors include one brother, Donald Revolt of Greenfield; two sisters, Betty Sullivan of Arlington, Mar Stahl of Phoenix; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Roger Campbell officiating. Visitation is Thursday, march 1 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown American Legion Post 152 will conduct military graveside rites.
