Frances J. Malkemus
Sept. 2, 1934 – Feb. 12, 2005
Frances J. Malkemus, 70, of Knightstown died Saturday, February 12 in Henry Co. Memorial Hospital in New Castle. She was born September 2, 1934 in New Castle, a daughter of the late John and Opal (Danner) Davis.
Mrs. Malkemus had lived in Knightstown most of her life. She was a graduate of Knightstown High School and was a retired assembly worker from RCA in Indianapolis. She was a member of American Legion/VFW Auxiliary and the Raysville Friends Meeting.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Malkemus of Mooresville and Carl R. (wife Elizabeth) Malkemus of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Donna Reece of Raysville; one sister, Ruth Ann Eversole of New Castle; three grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Carl Malkemus, who died January 4, 1994, and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 16) at the Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Michael Sherman officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, February 15.
Homer H. Carty
April 12, 1908 – Feb. 13, 2005
Former Lewisville resident, Homer H. Carty, 96, died Sunday, February 13 at the Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle. He was born in Clinton on April 12, 1908, a son of the late Ora and Mollie Morley Carty.
Mr. Carty had lived in Lewisville for 45 years before moving to New Castle three years ago. He was a machinist and retired from Chrysler Corp. in New Castle in 1968 after 32 years of service. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 371 of New Castle.
Survivors include two sons and their wives: Jim and Linda Carty of Clermont and Roy and Mildred Carty of Van, Texas; one daughter Wilma Selmeyer of New Castle; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Short of Straughn; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years at the time, Velma N. “Bell” Dalton. They were married in New Castle in January of 1936 and she died October 10, 1991; Also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 16) at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home~Lewisville Chapel~Lewisville. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Eunice L. Hembree
May 19, 1916 – Feb. 12, 2005
Eunice L. Hembree, 88, died Saturday, February 12 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in New Castle. She was born May 19, 1916 in Glenmary, Tenn., a daughter of the late John K. and Sarah A. Staley Wright.
Mrs. Hembree moved from Stearns, Ky. to Spiceland where she lived for 55 years before moving to New Castle in 2003. She was a homemaker and had been the owner/operator of the Dunreith Café for several years in the 1960’s. She had also worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in New Castle during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Sara E. (husband Irvin) Newkirk of Sunman; two sons, Harold W. Hembree Jr. of Anderson and James K. (wife Brenda) Hembree of Spiceland; six grandchildren, David W. Newkirk and Sharon E. Newkirk-Womack, Jeffrey and Scott Hembree, Amy Mckown and Melissa Mondrush; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Gene Francis of Anderson, Nancy Strunk of Middletown and Bette Lambert of Oneida, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold W. Hembree whom she married December 25, 1933 in Stearns, Ky. He died in April of 1988. Also four brothers, Chester, John, Ray and Bill Wright preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 15 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home~Lewisville Chapel~Lewisville with Rev. Tim Dice officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday.
Eldon Russell Magee
Aug. 1929 – Feb. 9, 2005
Eldon “Doc” Russell Magee, 75, a resident of Rushville Miller’s Merry Manor, died Wednesday, February 9 in the Rush Co. Hospital. He was born in August of 1929 in Spiceland, a son of the late Maurice and Myrtle (Reece) Magee.
Mr. Magee was a former member of the Grant City Friends Church and the Knightstown/Kennard Brotherhood and Sisterhood.
Survivors include two sisters, Edna Kemerly and Esther Carmichael; two brothers, Charles (wife Patty) Magee and Howard (wife Leona) Magee; three uncles, Jim, Harold and Otis Reece; 13 nieces and nephews, 25 great nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Roscoe and Jenny Miracle of Decatur.
Services were held February 11 with burial in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
Wayne Roscoe Clark
Jan. 31, 1914 – Feb. 20, 2005
Longtime Knightstown resident, Wayne Roscoe Clark, 91, died Sunday, February 20 at the Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield. He was born January 31 in Hendricks County, a son of the late Joseph Roscoe and Laura (Twomey) Clark.
Mr. Clark was a farmer and had worked at the Knightstown Elevator and at Mayhill Publications. He was a 1932 graduate of Edinburg High School. He was a member of the Knightstown Friends Church and the K. of P. Lodge. Clark, a lifelong Democrat, was a precinct committeeman in both Henry and Rush counties, plus held various positions in the party. In 1997, he received the Sagamore of the Wabash from Gov. Frank O’Bannon.
Survivors include a son, Frank Clark of Anchorage, Alaska; three daughters, Waynetta (husband Bob) Dunn of Knightstown, Diana (husband John) Love of Knightstown, and Pam Noble of Evanston, Ill.; one brother, Wendell (wife Maxine) Clark of Knightstown; two granddaughters, Melinda Wright and Kate Noble; two grandsons, Mick (wife Meagan) Wright and Nate (wife Amy) Noble; four great-grandchildren, Clark, Carson, Chloe and Cole; several step-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
On February 3, 1939, he married Mary (Stapp) Clark and she preceded him in death on June 14, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Kern Clark and one sister, Reggie Fern Manning.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 in the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Jeff Mair officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 23) at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Joyce Allene Richardson
Sept. 23, 1936 – Feb. 19, 2005
Joyce Allene Richardson, 68, of Knightstown died at her home Saturday, February 19. She was born September 23, 1936 in Russell Co., Ky., a daughter of the late Shellie and Wonzie (Harmon) Pruitt.
Mrs. Richardson had lived in Knightstown most of her life. She was employed for many years at the G-2 Café, Knightstown Café and Pastry Etc. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Monticello, Ky. and was a beloved wife and loving mother.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Arlie Richardson whom she married August 28, 1954; two sons, Michael (wife Ruthie) Richardson of Knightstown and David (wife Mindy) Richardson of Knightstown; two daughters, Helen (husband Bill) Gorman of Knightstown and Joyce Ann Richardson, also of Knightstown; two sisters, Wanda (husband Ralph) Lair and Emma Jean (husband Bill) Richardson, both of Monticello, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 23) at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Mike Gasper officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, February 22.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock County Memorial Hospice.
Lillian M. Dishman
May 18, 1918 – Feb. 9, 2005
Knightstown resident, Lillian M. Dishman, 86, died Saturday, February 19 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born May 18, 1918 in Knightstown, a daughter of the late John “G” and Pearl (Frampton) Hammond. Mrs. Dishman was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Pearl Stroup of New Castle and Deborah Heiny of Indianapolis; one son, Mark King of Indianapolis; one step-son, Jack Dishman of New Castle; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gleason Dishman and a son, Raymond “Butch” Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 23) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown.
Visitation will be from noon to time of services today (Feb. 23).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
