Indiana Marriages, 1780-1992

Thurman Apple

Feb. 22, 1927-July 11, 2003

Thurman Apple, 76, of rural Rushville, died Friday, July 11 in Riverwalk Village, Noblesville. He was born February 22, 1927 in Rushville.

Mr. Apple was a farmer and a lifelong resident of Rushville. Mr. Apple was also a retired insurance salesman and a veteran of the U.S. Army. In 1948, he graduated from Mays High School. He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God. On February 25, 1952, he married Greta Skinner and she preceded him in death.

He is survived by one son, Brad Apple of Rushville; three daughters, Sherri Apple of Rushville, Denise Sparks of Hopewell, N.J., and Deleia Wiselogle of Noblesville; three sisters, Avis (husband Carl) Hawkins of Morristown, Aleene (husband Byron) Hunsinger of Brownsburg, and Esther (husband Nelson) Newhouse of New Palestine; and 10 grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Monday, July 14 in Center Cemetery. There was no public viewing.

Todd Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cledis Nolen

June 29, 1926 – July 12, 2003

Cledis Nolen, 77, a resident of Carthage, died Saturday, July 12 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born June 29, 1926 in Olive Hill, Ky., a son of the late W. Ike and Lucy (Stephen) Nolen.

Mr. Nolen was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Carthage Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Nolen of Carthage; four daughters, JoAnn Bray of Monrovia, Patricia (husband Larry) Hardeman of Carthage, Vivian Nolen (husband Jim) Wayland of Arizona, and Tamara Nolen of Carthage; grandchildren, Gregg Bray, Michelle Bray, Marchelle Bray, Doug Hardeman, Robert Lee, Donnetta Hardeman Betley, Shane Nasby and Christy Lee; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Ada Jones of Knightstown, Earl Nolen of Cambridge City, Kat Nolen Thornsbury of Soldier, Ky., Carl Nolen of Falmouth, Florce Nolen Abrams of Knightstown; step-brothers, Rethel Blevins Johnson of Olive Hill, Ky., and Charles Blevins of North Carolina; and step-sister, Bernice Blevins Suttles of Olive Hill, Ky.

He was preceded in death by mother, father and stepmother; three brothers, Russell, Earsel and Homer Nolen; sister, Iva Nolen Smith; half-brothers, Billy and Larry Nolen; step-brothers and sister, Homer Blevins, baby Blevins and Helen Blevins Adkins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, July 16) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Nasby, Rev. Gene Bennett and Pastor Paul Enyart officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Carthage with military graveside rites.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, July 14.

Marian White

June 16, 1910 – July 8, 2003

Marian Goldsberry White, 93, of rural Carthage, died Tuesday, July 8 in Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was born June 16, 1910 in Hanna, a daughter of the late Walter and Hattie (Osborn) Goldsberry.

Mrs. White lived in the Carthage area most of her life. She was the oldest of eight children. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School and also Depauw University and Indiana University. Marian taught high school at Mays, Carthage, Arlington and Rushville. She was an active member for 60 years of the Knightstown Friends Meeting.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph White whom she married December 24, 1937; two sons, Donald (wife Mary) White of Hanover, Mich. and Louie White of Bloomington; two brothers; one sister; four grandchildren, Dr. Leigh Anne (husband Ed) Busch White, Joseph (wife Ginger) White, Jason White and Brandon White; and three great-grandchildren.

One son preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 11 at the Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Chris Sitler officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday, July 10.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Knightstown Friends Church Youth Fund at 214 E. Brown St., Knightstown, IN 46148.

James McDaniel

April 12, 1925 – July 2, 2003

James “Don” McDaniel, 78, a resident of Wilkinson, died Wednesday, July 2 in Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. He was born April 12, 1925 in Rush County, a son of the late James and Ruby (Fort) McDaniel.

Mr. McDaniel was a lifelong farmer and retired in 1988 from Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He attended the Shirley-Wilkinson Community Methodist Church and was a member of the Shirley Masonic Lodge #531, Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #492 and the Scottish Rite of Indianapolis.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Lou McDaniel of Wilkinson; two daughters, Karen (husband Larry) Raymer of Brownstown, and Connie (husband Tom) Veach of Wilkinson; six grandchildren, Kori Johnson, Karmen Hartranft, Kyle Raymer, Kwin Raymer, Kevin Veach and Chris Veach; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Collins of Wilkinson; and one niece and one nephew.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 7 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery. Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday, July 6 with a Masonic service at 5 p.m.

Memorial contribution may be made to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia Society.

Charles A. Bever

Jan. 25, 1925 – Jan. 28, 2005

Former Charlottesville resident, Charles A. Bever, 80, died Friday, January 28 at the Ellison House in Greenfield. He was born January 25, 1925 in Hancock County, a son of the late Grant and Florea (Hill) Bever.

Mr. Bever retired from the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home after 15 years of service as a Grounds Supervisor. He had also been a self-employed landscaper, truck driver and drove buses. He was a member of Knightstown American Legion and Greenfield Church of Christ. Bever served as a former Chief and member of the Charlottesville Fire Dept. and the Charlottesville Lions Club.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Maxine (Jackson) Bever of Greenfield; two granddaughters, Shantelle Ebbert of Shirley and Alisha Cavaletto of Charlottesville; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Duhamel of Greenfield and Ann Dickerson of Shirley; three brothers, Leonard Bever of Greenfield, Bob Bever of Charlottesville, and Gale Bever of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Bever in 1959 and Karen Brown in 1994; two brothers, Ed Bever and Lee Bever; sister, Mary Hiday; two infant sisters and one infant brother; and a great-grandson, Jacob Ebbert in 2003.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 2) in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pat McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with graveside military rites.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Tuesday, February 1.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hancock Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.

Roy A. Butcher

Oct. 23, 1925 – Feb. 6, 2005

Roy A. Butcher, 79, of New Castle, and formerly of Wilkinson, died Sunday, Feb. 6 at Heritage House Nursing Home in New Castle. He was born October 3, 1925 in Henry County, a son of the late Claude and Dorothy (Moore) Butcher.

Mr. Butcher retired after 30 years of service for Fields Auto Parts. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed antique cars and tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Butcher of Flemingsburg, Ky.; two daughters, Hava Butcher of New Castle and Angela (husband Thomas) Hedrick of New Castle; three sons, Richard Butcher of Kennard, George Butcher of New Castle and Allen Butcher of Flemingsburg, Ky.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Butcher of Shirley and John Butcher of New Castle; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Shelby and Roger Butcher; two brothers, Gerald and Bob Butcher; and a sister, Mary Haynes.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 8 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with burial in Simmons Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the prior to the service on Tuesday.

R. Ty Bridges

May 16, 1972 – Feb. 14, 2005

Former Knightstown resident, R. Ty Bridges, 32, of Greenwood, died unexpectedly Monday, February 14 in Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born May 16, 1972 in New Castle, the son of Ronald Bridges and Marlene (Ratliff) Wampler.

Bridges, a 1990 graduate of Knightstown High School, attended Lincoln Technical Institute. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1990 to 1995, serving with the Anti-Terrorist Group. He also served in the National Guard Reserves until 1998. He was employed at Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis. He had attended Faith Chapel in Knightstown. Ty enjoyed riding, building and restoring motorcycles.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie (Lambert) Bridges of Greenwood, whom he married July 4, 2004; four stepchildren, Jeremy and Shawn Keith and Heavenly and Nicholas Savory, all of Greenwood; one grandson, Jalen Snyder of Greenwood; his parents, Gary and Marlene Wampler of Knightstown; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bill and Millie Lambert of Indianapolis; one sister, Staci (husband Doug) Emerson of Knightstown; a half-sister, Crystal Bridges of Idaho; a half-brother, Matthew Bridges of Utah; paternal grandparents, Lowell and JoAnn Bridges of Knightstown; grandmother, Marjorie Wampler of Greenfield; three nephews, Sy, Seth and Wes Emerson, all of Knightstown; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald L. Bridges and his grandfather, Robert L. Wampler.

Services will at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 17 at Faith Chapel in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery, where the Knightstown American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 16) at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
