Harriett L. Jessup

Harriett L. Jessup, 81, a resident of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, May 7 in Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born December 17, 1921 in Spiceland, a daughter of the late Russell and Eva (Murphy) Reece.
Mrs. Jessup was a homemaker and had worked at Eli Lilly in Greenfield. She was a member of the Charlottesville Friends Church and the Charlottesville Bunco Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Dianna (husband Steve) Lewis of Greenfield, and Linda (husband Rich) Bass of St. Peters, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph "Gene" Ramsay of Kendallville; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Russell Jessup in 1976; one son, Gary Jessup; two sisters, Helen Sharp and Lenora Kline; and stepfather, Ralph E. Ramsay, Sr.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 12 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Powers officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday, May 11. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
Helen Rushton

D. Helen Rushton, 91, a resident of Greenfield, died Saturday, May 3 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. She was born August 24, 1911 in Delaware County, a daughter of the late George O. and Bertha A. (Fosnot) Scott.
Mrs. Rushton was a homemaker and a member of the Farm Bureau Township and County Woman's Leader, Wilkinson Brotherhood and Sisterhood (past president, secretary and treasurer), Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and Brown Township DES-AMI Home Economics Club. She was also very active in the Indiana State Fair Home and Family Arts exhibits.
She is survived by one son, Kenneth Leroy (wife Carolyn) Rushton of Glenwood; four daughters, Wilma Agnes (husband Max) Kennedy of Wilkinson, Dorothy Pauline (husband Richard) Jones of Indianapolis, Kathleen Faye (husband Howard) Willis of Sulphur Springs and Mary Alice (husband Darl) Collins of Markleville; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Robinette of Anderson and Hilda Sutton of Muncie; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ovie Earl Rushton on March 28, 2002; a brother, Rex C. Scott, on April 17, 1980; and one great-grandson, Jacob Paul Stull.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8 in the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, with Jim Harless and William Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson from 2-8 p.m. today (Wednesday). Memorial contributions may be made to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church.
Elmer E. Wilson, Jr.

Elmer E. Wilson, Jr., 73, a resident of Anderson and a former resident of Pendleton, died Monday, April 28 at Community Hospital in Anderson. He was born October 26, 1929 in Knightstown, a son of the late Elmer Earnest and Flora Jane (Smith) Wilson, Sr.
Mr. Wilson had worked in the Maintenance Department at Pendleton Heights High School for 18 years and had operated the Sunglow Service Station in Maxwell. He was a member of the Shirley Masonic Lodge #531 and a past patron of the Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #491. He was an avid fisherman and gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Phyllis (Kissick) Wilson of Anderson; one daughter, Janet (husband Mark) Nugent of Anderson; one son, Elmer Eugene (wife Judy) Wilson of Elizabethtown, Ky.; three grandchildren, Dr. Heather (husband Juan Carlos) Vargas of Anderson, Jason (fiancée Ashley Gray) Nugent of Anderson, and Drew Wilson of Elizabethtown, Ky.; one brother, Bob Wilson of Markleville; and several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Linda Marie Wilson and a sister, Norma Jean Wilson, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Mike Weber officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 1 with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Jerry Carter

Captain Jerry Carter, 67, of Key Largo, Fla. and a former Knightstown resident, died Sunday, April 13 at a Key Largo hospital. He was born March 13, 1936 to the late W.H. Buster and Mary Carter.
Captain Carter moved back to south Florida in 1978 after spending several years in Knightstown and Mt. Orab, Ohio. He was the owner of J.C. Auto Body in Homestead for 10 years and employed by Holiday R.V. in Key Largo. He received his captain's license in 1988 and chartered on the Four J's.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jo Ann (nee Moulden) Carter of Key Largo; three sons, Jerry Allen Carter, Jr. of Batonia, Ohio, Joseph Aaron (wife Melinda) Carter of Plantation, Fla., and John Anthony (wife Dona) Carter of Melbourn, Fla.; two granddaughters, Brandi Lynn and Christina Jo Ann Carter; and two sisters, Sally (husband Bill) Windsor of Knightstown, and Donna (husband Jerry) Hill of Richmond.
A Celebration of Life was held at 6:30 on Tuesday, April 15 at the First Baptist Church Key Largo.
Helen V. Walker

Helen V. Walker, 87, of Greenfield died Sunday, April 27 at Reid Hospital in Richmond.
She was born October 21, 1915 in Indianapolis, a daughter of the late Danial and Mae (Martindale) Bowman. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker and former owner of Walker's Grocery in Knightstown and Gwenville.
Survivors include two sons, Philip L. Walker of Charlottesville, and Steven H. Walker of New Paris, Ohio; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, James Bowman of Cleveland.
Her husband, Hugh C. Walker, preceded her in death in 1999.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 2 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Friends may call Thursday, May 1 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mildred M. Bever

Mildred M. Bever, 77, died Monday, April 28 at Brandywine Nursing Home in Greenfield. She was born April 5, 1926 in Connersville to Fred and Lulu (Hull) Meyer.
Mrs. Bever was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Western Electric Pioneers and former member of Knightstown BPW. On April 14, 1945, she married Harry Bever, who survives.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Larry David Bever of Spiceland; two daughters, Sharon Elaine Muncy and Nina Jane Wolfe of Knightstown; seven grandchildren and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. David Bonne officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 30) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Gertie M. Brown

Gertie M. Brown, 76, of Greenfield, died Thursday, May 22 in Greenfield. She was born November 8 in Russell Co., Ky., a daughter of the late Claude and Abbey (Johnson) Burchett.
On July 3, 1973, she married Donald R. Brown who died December 29, 1995. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Brown is survived by one son, Frank Phelps of Greenfield; four daughters, Barbara Roberts of Carthage, Marie Mullins of Greenfield, Wanda Lane of Knightstown and Joyce Roy of Knightstown; one brother, Woodrow Anderson of Jamestown, Ky.; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Wendell and Huger Phelps and a sister, Bessie Birdwell.
Services were held Tuesday, May 27 at the Pasco Memorial Mortuary in Greenfield with Nate Brewington officiating. Burial was in Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Visitation was at the mortuary on Monday, May 26.
