Rose E. Cox
April 3, 1940 – Jan. 5, 2002
Rose E. Cox, 61, of Knightstown, died Saturday, January 5 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born April 3, 1940 in Bloomington, a daughter of the late John W. and Zeffie Opal (Collier) Frye.
On April 5, 1958, she married William R. Cox, Sr., who survives. Mrs. Cox was a self-employed Day Care provider. She was a member of the Knightstown Friends Church, the Knightstown B.P.W. and the American Legion Auxiliary in Knightstown. Rose was also a former B.P.W. “Woman of the Year”.
Survivors besides her husband are: one son, William R. (wife Lisa) Cox, Jr. of Knightstown; one daughter, Debbie L. (husband, Jeff) Wilkerson of Knightstown; one brother, Larry Frye of Bloomington; two sisters, Lillie Robertson, Bloomington, and Vickie (husband, Michael) Kebbs of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Trista and Taylor Cox and Ashlee Wilkerson, all of Knightstown, and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
Services for Mrs. Cox will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 9 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown with Rev. Mark Tabb and Rev. Chris Sitler officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery at Knightstown.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 8 at the Todd Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
James L. Feaster
Jan. 29, 1928 – Dec. 31, 2001
James L. Feaster, 73, a resident of North Vernon and former resident of Shirley, died Monday, December 31, 2001 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born January 29, 1928 in New Castle, a son of Henry N. and Gertrude E. Mullin Feaster.
Mr. Feaster resided in Henry and Hancock counties before moving to North Vernon in 1996. He served an enlistment with the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy. He also served an enlistment with the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Yosemite A.D. 19. Feaster was a member of the Indiana National Guard and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge #987 in Greenfield. He retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Indianapolis October 2001 after 44 years of service. He was a member of Local $ 1111.
Feaster loved traveling and camping in South Dakota.
Survivors include his wife Kathryn Emerson Feaster whom he married July 7, 1951; one daughter, Pamela Coates, North Vernon; three sons, James L. (wife, Tina) Feaster Jr., North Vernon, John N. (wife, Sandy), Feaster, North Vernon, and Jeffrey S. (wife, Debra) Feaster, Franklin; one sister, Eleanor (husband, Kenneth) Bolden, Greensboro; 14 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Irene Cunningham, Knightstown; also several nieces and nephews.
His parents, one son Richard “Rick” Feaster in 1983, six brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Services were held Friday, January 4 at Macer-Hall Funeral Home in New Castle with Rev. Darrel Deck officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Addition, South Mound Cemetery. The VFW and American Legion conducted military rites.

Chlorice Calvin Gourley
June 23, 1913 – Jan. 1, 2002
Chlorice Calvin “Joe” Gourley, 88, of Keystone Woods in Anderson, died Tuesday, January 1 at his residence. He was born June 23, 1913 in Franklin, a son of the late George and Minnie Griswalt Gourley.
Gourley was a utility man at Guide Lamp Div. of General Motors, retiring September 30, 1971 after more than 38 years of service. Joe attended Anderson High School and was discharged from the National Guard.
Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Ruskin and Brooksville, Fla. for 25 years, returned to Anderson in 1999, and was presently a member of Park Place Church of God.
On August 1, 1947 at the home of the bride’s parents in Shirley, he married Sophia Mae Davisson Gourley, who survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Rebecca Jo “Becky” (husband, David) Helvey of Anderson; two granddaughters, four grandsons, three great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, cousins and several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Donald Joe Gourley.
Services were held Saturday, January 5 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Estell Chapel in Shirley with Rev. William Abresch officiating. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery.
Visitation was Friday, January 4 at the funeral home.
Harry Stanley Overman
Feb. 26, 1922 – Jan. 10, 2002
Harry Stanley Overman, 79, a resident of Knightstown, died Thursday, January 10 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born February 26, 1922 in Maple Valley, a son of the late Ralph Overman and Ruby (Lewis) Poole.
Mr. Overman is a retired Lt. Colonel for the U.S. Air Force, president of Overman Plumbing, Heating and Electric, Inc. of Knightstown and a founding partner of New Castle Homes. He served as a flight instructor during WW II and as Aircraft Commander in Korea, the Congo, Lebanon, Dominican Republic, Vietnam and during the Cuban missile crisis before retiring with 28 years of service for his country. He is a member of the Knightstown Masonic Lodge, Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and is past president of the Knightstown Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Irene (Middleton) Overman of Knightstown, two sons, Randall W. (wife Christine) Overman of Knightstown, and James S. (wife Martha) Overman of Rocklin, Calif.; one daughter, Linda L. Overman of Pawleys Island, S.C.; one sister, Barbara Hoover of Anderson; eight grandchildren, Bradley (wife Michelle) Overman of Knightstown, Daniel Overman of Knightstown, Patricia and Terrell Overman of Reno, Nev., Lorell (husband Jason) Duteil of Fort Collins, Colo., Scott (wife Ann) Johnson of Kings Mountain, S.C., and Brian and Keith Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; two great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother Peggy (Howe) Overman, a granddaughter Laura L. Johnson and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 14 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with the Knightstown American Legion conducting military graveside services at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation was held Sunday, January 13 at the funeral home with Masonic Services conducted at 7 p.m.

Jeannine K. Riley
June 13, 1960 – Jan. 10, 2002
Jeannine K. Riley, 41, a resident of Warrington, died Thursday, January 10 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born June 13, 1960 in Rushville, a daughter of Gene Kindler of Grayling, Mich. and Berdina (Eaton) Kindler of Knightstown.
She had worked at Pic N Save and Shirley Foods in Shirley, She was a past 4-H Club member in Henry County and was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Greenfield.
Surviving are her husband, Roby S. Riley of Warrington; two daughters, Amanda and Melissa Riley of Warrington; one sister, Elaine Noble of Knightstown; two brothers, Kris Kindler of Morristown, and Earl Kindler of Muncie; one stepbrother, George Leininger of Indianapolis; one stepsister, Kasey Kindler of Grayling, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 15 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial was in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday, January 14 at the funeral home.
William G. McNew
Oct. 16, 1921 – Jan. 10, 2002
William G. “Bill” McNew, 80, formerly of Knightstown, died Thursday, January 10 at The Waters in New Castle. Mr. McNew was born October 16, 1921 in Knightstown, a son of the late Harry I. and Anna M. (Phelps) McNew.
Mr. McNew was a 1939 graduate of Knightstown High School and served in the U.S. Navy abroad the U.S.S. Lexington during WW II. He was employed by the Henry County Highway Dept. and retired from the Indiana State Highway Dept. On December 28, 1946, he married Evelyn Louise Clark who preceded him in death on December 7, 1998.
Survivors include one brother, Jack (wife Mel) McNew of Muncie; one sister, Kathleen J. Atkinson of Cumberland; special niece and caregiver, Patty Kay (husband Dwayne) Bever of Carthage; nine nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews; and three great-great-nieces and nephews.
Services for Mr. McNew were held Monday, January 14 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, Knightstown.
Visitation was from noon until the 2 p.m. service on Monday. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown.
Langley Clay
Oct. 10, 1909 – Jan. 10, 2002
Langley Clay, 92, of Anderson and formerly of Carthage, died Thursday, January 10 at St. John’s Medical Center in Anderson. Mr. Clay was born October 10, 1909 in Jackson, Ky., a son of the late Elijah and Tressie (New) Clay.
Mr. Clay was a U.S. Army veteran serving his country during WW II. He was a factory worker employed by Delco Remy in Anderson, retiring October 1, 1974. He was also a member of the Raleigh Senior Citizens. Mr. Clay was preceded in death by his wife, the former Emily J. Arrowood on February 28, 1993.
Other survivors include two sons, Sam Henry (wife Janet) Clay of Deland, Fla. and James H. (wife Barbara) Clay of Ingalls; two daughters, Mildred M. (husband Charles) Albea of Anderson, and Pearl E. (husband Glenn) Denniston of Anderson; two sisters, Rose Strong of Kentucky, and Dora Clay of Illinois; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown on Tuesday, January 15 with Rev. John Hackney officiating.
Visitation was held prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery with the Knightstown American Legion conducting military graveside rites.
