Richard Freeman Firestone

Memorial services were held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 27 for former Knightstown resident, Richard “Dick” Firestone at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton, Ky. Mr. Firestone of Carrollton, Ky. died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 22 at the Carroll County Hospital in Carrollton
He was born May 4, 1931 in Mishawaka, a son of the late Wilbur Freeman and Emma (Seggerman) Firestone.
Mr. Firestone was a retired auditor for the Indiana State Grain Commission Department. He was a former manager and current member of the City of Carrollton Main Street Program, served as a member of the City of Carrollton Board of Adjustments, was a former Boy Scout leader and also served as the first president of the Historic Knightstown Historical Society. Firestone served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Firestone of Carrollton; two sons, Gregory Freeman Firestone of Louisville, Ky., and Jeffrey E. Firestone of Mooresville, N.C.; one sister, Doris Nicodemus of Mishawaka; two brothers, Gene Firestone of Osceola, and Robert Firestone, North Liberty; and four grandchildren.

Verdis Lee Sandlin
Oct. 14, 1913 – Dec. 27, 2001
Verdis Lee Sandlin, 88, a resident of Knightstown, died Thursday, December 27 at Hickory Creek in New Castle after an extended illness. She was born October 14, 1913 in Rowan County, Ky., a daughter of the late John Anderson and Delpha Jane (Whisman) Riley.
A homemaker, Mrs. Sandlin had done civil work during World War II and had also worked in a canning factory. A Henry County resident since 1927, she was a member of the Knightstown Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include two daughters, Geneva (husband Robert) Galyen of New Castle and Jeri (husband John) Springman of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Carolyn Sue Barnett, Robert Galyen, Jr., Jeffrey Galyen, Teresa Dulin, Tina Drew, John Springman, Jr. and Deborah Springman; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 71, John Sandlin on September 25, 2001; four sisters and two brothers.
Services were held Saturday, December 29 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Gene Bennett officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Okall Bates
Nov. 17, 1909 – Dec. 25, 2001
Mary Okall Bates, 92, of Knightstown, died Tuesday, December 25 at the Luann Nursing Home in Nappanee. She was born November 17, 1909 in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Lilburn and Della (Reed) Wyatt. Mrs. Bates retired from Western Electric in Indianapolis.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy L. Harrold of Knightstown, and Betty J. Anglemeyer of Nappanee; three brothers, Bill Wyatt, Caley Wyatt and Forrest Wyatt, all of Knightstown; two sisters, Marie Smith of Carthage, and Atha Lee Fredrickson of Philomath, Ore.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband John M. Goble and seven brothers and sisters.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 29 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown. There will be no public visitation. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Bates may be made to the Henry County Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Charles W. Pruitt, Jr.
Nov. 26, 1963 – Dec. 23, 2001
Charles W. Pruitt, Jr. of Carthage, died at his residence Sunday, December 23.
Mr. Pruitt had worked in the maintenance department for the Wonder Bread Co. in Indianapolis for the past three years.
Survivors include his wife, Holly (Harris) Pruitt; one daughter, Kayla Renee Pruitt; his mother and stepfather Roberta and Jessie Kerns; and three sisters, Deborah Borden, Denise Ettinger and Kim McGowan.
Services were held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 27 at Flanner & Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Center. Visitation was on Thursday prior to the service.

Lloyd Hunsinger
Dec. 22, 1910 – Dec. 24, 2001
Lloyd Hunsinger, 91, of New Castle, died Monday, December 24 at The Waters of New Castle following an extended illness. He was born December 22, 1910 in Rush County, a son of the late Jacob and Alta (Ailes) Hunsinger.
Mr. Hunsinger was a graduate Mays High School and a resident of Mays most of his life. He had been employed at Rex Manufacturing in Connersville. He was a member of the Raleigh Christian Church. He had lived at Flat Rock Rivers Lodge in Rushville prior to moving to Oakwood in 1997.
He is survived by special friends, Larry and Cindy Rivers of New Castle.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lelia Alltto and a brother, Porter Hunsinger.
Graveside services were held Friday, December 28 at East Hill Cemetery near Rushville with Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Billy Graham Crusade. Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Constantine Bradbury
Aug. 8, 1905 – Dec. 27, 2001
Constantine “Connie” Bradbury, 96, of Gainesville, Fla., died Thursday, December 27 at the Oakes Nursing Home in Gainesville where she had lived since February of 2000. She was born August 8, 1905 in Franklin Township of Henry County, a daughter of the late Ernest L. and Alnetta Black Ward.
A longtime resident of the Lewisville community, she moved to Florida in 1996. She was a member of the Lewisville Presbyterian Church and the Lewisville Presbyterian Womans Association. Connie graduated from Lewisville High School with the class of 1924. She had worked at Fowlers Grocery Store in Lewisville prior to going to work for Indiana Rayon in Greenfield as a sewing machine operator.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris (husband Keith) Longfellow of Gainesville, Fla.; two grandsons, Steve Longfellow of Birmingham, Ala., and John Longfellow of Gainesville, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Shannon and Joshua Longfellow of Birmingham, Ala.; and one sister, Dorothy McKinsey of Rye, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Bradbury who died in 1976; a daughter, Rosalie Bradbury; a son, Jim; and two sisters, Colleen Martin and Madelyn Felkins.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 31 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel with the Revs. Linda Philabaun and Arthur Whitaker officiating. Burial was in the Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
Visitation was held Sunday, December 30 at the funeral home.

W. Lawrence Brock
May 10, 1926 – Dec. 24, 2001
W. Lawrence Brock, 75, of Indianapolis, died Monday, December 24 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. He was born May 10, 1926 in Cumberland, Md., a son of the late Rev. Walter B. and Mable Louise (Chapin) Brock.
Mr. Brock served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been employed by Naval Avionics as a physicist and engineer prior to his retirement and had worked on engineering instruments for research in color vision. Brock was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and was a board member of Life Effective Training, both in Indianapolis.
On September 7, 1963, he married Lucille Sitler, who survives. Other survivors in include one daughter, Margaret R. Brock of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, Richard Brock, N.J.; and two sisters, Marian (Brock) See, Baltimore, Md. And Edith Brock, Mountain Lake Park, Md.
Services were held Friday, December 28 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Knightstown with Rev. Alan McCraine, Dr. Raymond Bowden and Chris Sitler officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held Thursday, December 27 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel.
