Jane Wilson

Jane Wilson, 71, a resident of Muncie, died at her residence February 14. She was born August 9, 1930 in Delaware County, a daughter of the late Orion E. and Jewell O. (Baldwin) Brothers.
She was a homemaker and mother and a retired clerk for the Muncie Sanitary District. Jane was a member of the Women’s Democrat Club, Phi Chi Epsilon Xl Chapter, #27 Precinct Committee Women, Democrat and the Hazelwood Christian Church of Muncie.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, James W. Wilson of Muncie; two sons, James W. (wife Cheryl) Wilson Jr. of Muncie, Robert W. Wilson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and one daughter, Carol L. (husband Robert) Stouder of Muncie.
A daughter, Carolinda, four sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Services were held Monday, February 18 in the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jon Day officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was on Sunday, February 17 at the funeral home.

Aliene Shipley
Feb. 15, 1915 – Feb. 22, 2002
Aliene Shipley, 87, a resident of Franklin United Methodist Community and a former longtime resident of Wilkinson, died Friday, February 22 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. She was born February 15 in Maxwell, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Emma (Murnan) Weber.
Mrs. Shipley was a graduate of Charlottesville High School and Central Normal College in Danville. She taught at Eden and Charlottesville Schools and worked at Shipley Insurance Agency. She placed second in the nation in the Amateur Typing at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair. She was a member of the Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church in Shirley, the Shirley Chapter of the Eastern Star #492, Lilac Literary Club in Wilkinson, Nameless Creek Literary Club in Greenfield, Toastmistress Club in Greenfield and Tri Kappa in Greenfield. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that loved playing the piano and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, David Shipley of Franklin; two daughters, Connie (husband Richard) Butler of Columbus, and Ann Wilcoxon of Wilkinson; six granddaughters, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
Visitation was Tuesday, February 26 at the funeral home with Eastern Star services conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Martha K. Anderson
Dec. 9, 1908 – Feb. 11, 2002
Martha K. Anderson, 93, a former Knightstown resident, died Monday, February 11 in Franklin. She was born December 9, 1908 in Rush County, the daughter of Charles B. and Ethel (Stevens) Kennedy. She married Marvin Anderson on January 15, 1938 and he preceded her in death on October 25, 1976.
She was employed from 1949 to 1969 as a bookkeeper for the First National Bank in Knightstown and from 1969 to 1976, she worked for Lunglite Co. in Denning, NM, and from 1976 to 1979, she worked for Mayhill Publications, Inc. in Knightstown. Martha was a graduate of the Rush Co. public schools. She was a member of Center Christian Church at Mays, and a member of the Knightstown Chapter #54 O.E.S. in Knightstown.
Rev. Cleon Wright conducted graveside services Friday, February 22 at the Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Arrangements were handled by Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, Franklin.
Mabel Opal Thurston
Oct. 12, 1905 – Feb. 23, 2002
Mabel Opal Thurston, 96, former Carthage resident, died at her residence in Rising Sun on Saturday, February 23. She was born on October 12, 1905 in Morgan County, a daughter of the late Ezra and Della (Price) Rumple.
On August 30, 1925, she married Daily Thurston who preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Thurston was a member of the Weslyan Methodist Church in Carthage.
Survivors include one son, Paul Thurston, Okeechobee, FL; two daughters, Ethel Elkins and Viola Beckett, both of Rising Sun; two brothers, Jesse Rumple, Sr. of Carthage and Russell Rumple of Monticello; two sisters, Bertha Steward of Carthage, and Nellie Brown of Monticello; 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Thurston, a daughter, Velma Rennemeier and four brothers, Raymond, William, Lloyd and Ora Rumple.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Carthage with burial in the Carthage Town Cemetery.
Visitation was held Tuesday, February 26 at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel.
Catherine Louise James
Aug. 5, 1917 – Feb. 19, 2002
Catherine Louise Axon James, 84, a resident of Spiceland, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 19 at Henry County Memorial Hospital. She was born August 5, 1917 in Birch Tree, MO, a daughter of the late James Ross and Mary Elizabeth (Butler) Axon.
Mrs. James was a 1935 graduate of New Castle High School and was a member of Spicelend Friends Meeting.
Survivors include two daughters, Marynell (husband Ron) Roberts of Fort Wayne, and Judy (husband Dennis) Stevens of Spiceland; three sons, William James of Indianapolis, Joe James of Spiceland, and John (wife Lisa) James of Knightstown; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert K. James in 1998; a brother, Gordon Axon, and a granddaughter, Bethany James.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 22 at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland with Sid Martin officiating.
Visitation was Thursday, February 21 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, New Castle.
Mahlon C. Marshall
July 23, 1920 – Feb. 20, 2002
Mahlon C. Marshall, 81, of Willow Branch, died Wednesday, February 20 at Regency Place Healthcare Center in Greenfield. He was born July 23, 1920 in Hamilton County, a son of the late Murray and Bertha (Lennon) Marshall.
Mr. Marshall retired from Delco Remy in Anderson. He was a lifelong farmer and owner and trainer of standardbred horses. He was a member of the United States Trotting and Pacing Association.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Isaacs) Marshall of Willow Branch; three daughter, Linda Parks of Willow Branch, Brenda (husband Greg) Troy of Pendleton, and Judy (husband Don) Jordan of Willow Branch; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Marshall of Greenfield; two sisters, Fayola Leonard and Josephine Kostuck, both of Fortville; and several nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Jeannette Stevens, an infant son, Steven Marshall, and one brother, Dallas Marshall, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 22 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Les Grimsley officiating. Burial was in Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville.
Visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday, February 21.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Willow Branch United Methodist Church.
Lillian Borror
Sept. 21, 1931 – Dec. 18, 2001
Services were held Saturday, December 22 for Lillian Borror, 70, of Knightstown. Mrs. Borror died unexpectedly at her residence on Tuesday, December 18.
She was born September 21, 1931 in Richland, Georgia, a daughter of the late Clarence and Mary (Riles) White. On August 1, 1953, she married Robert Borror, who survives.
Mrs. Borror retired form First National Bank in Knightstown where she was employed as a bank teller. She attended Bethel Presbyterian Church in Knightstown and was a member of the Knightstown American Legion Auxiliary and the Psi Iotes Sorority.
Survivors besides her husband include one son, Robert (wife Donna) Borror of New Castle; two daughters, Kathy (husband Luther) Taylor of Pensacola, Fla., and Jenny (husband Tom) Smith of Carthage; two brothers, James White of Roseville, Calif. And Leonard White of Richland, Ga.; six grandchildren, Lori (Taylor) Kizziah, Tiffany (Taylor) Woodward, Jarrod Borror, Lindsey Borror, Abby Borror and Tommy Smith.
She was preceded in death by two sons and a brother.
Rev. James Mullen officiated at the services on Saturday at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, December 21 at the funeral home.
