Mary Edith Taylor
March 19, 1904 – Oct. 25, 2001
Services were held Monday, October 29 for Mary Edith Taylor, 97, of Carthage. Mrs. Taylor died Thursday, October 25 at Regency Place in Greenfield. She was born March 19, 1904 in Shelby County, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Rebecca (Gaston) Nigh.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and a member of the Carthage Friends Meeting. She was a former member of the Carthage Eastern Star. On July 8, 1923, she married Lindley Taylor who preceded her in death in January 1984.
Survivors include one sister, Myrtle Clevenger of Carthage and several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Richard Doughty officiated at the services held at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel followed by burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery near Carthage.
Visitation was Sunday, October 28 at the funeral home.

Jesse S. Addison
Aug. 30, 1919 – Oct. 24, 2001
Jesse S. Addison, 82, of Carthage, died Wednesday, October 24 at his residence. He was born on August 30, 1919 in Rush County, a son of the late Don and Marguerite (Stuart) Addison.
Mr. Addison had been employed as a truck driver by Dickbrader Express and had also been employed by 4-Star Charter as a bus driver. He was a member of the Carthage Friends Meeting and was a former member of the Carthage Volunteer Fire Department. On July 14, 1972 he married Elizabeth M. Hitchens who survives.
Survivors besides his wife are two sons, Boyd (wife Dawn) Duncan of Carthage, and Edmund (wife Diane) Smock of Ft. Wayne; seven daughters, Kay (husband Walt) of Arlington, Peggy (husband Harold) Edwards, Carthage, Kay (husband Bill Downs, Anderson, Sondra (husband Ray) Fox, Pendleton, Flora Smock, Richmond, Doris (husband Larry) Whitehurst, Anderson, and Anita (husband Dale) Bell of Elwood; two brothers, Howard (wife Joan) Addison, New Castle, and Lynn (wife Betty) Addison of Arlington; one sister, Isabell (husband Marshall) Gardner of Versailles; 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Addison was preceded in death by his first wife Dotty (Sullivan) Addison, a son, Edward Smock, a daughter, Wanda McCleese, and a sister, Lloyd Addison.
Services were held Saturday, October 27 at the Carthage Friends Meeting with Rev. Howard Addison officiating with burial in the Carthage Friends Cemetery. Visitation was on Friday, October 26 at the Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel.

Maurice Blackford Jr.
Aug. 31, 1932 – Oct. 24, 2001
Maurice “Moe” Blackford Jr., 69, a resident of Greenfield, died Wednesday, October 24 at Regency Place Nursing Center in Greenfield following an extended illness. He was born August 31, 1932 in Greenfield, a son of the late Maurice and Effie (Hendren) Blackford.
Mr. Blackford was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Greenfield.
He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Smith, Lisa Blackford and Jackie Jones, all of California; six grandchildren; seven sisters, Dorothy Bolander and Connie Noel, both of Indianapolis, Barbara Osman, Mary Miller and Betty Lipps, all of Greenfield, Jackie Hughes of Pennsylvania and Janice Helms of Carthage; three brothers, Norman, Bobby and Bradley Blackford, all of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Paul Wayne Blackford.
There will be direct cremation with no services. Burial will follow in California. Arrangements were handled by Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.
Marty L. Jones
Oct. 28, 1957 – Oct. 30, 2001
Marty L. Jones, 44, of Carthage, died Tuesday, October in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Pendleton. He was born in Rushville on October 28, 1957, a son of James C. and Dixie (Jackson) Jones.
Mr. Jones was a 1975 graduate of Knightstown High School and a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed by the Gaylor Group in Carmel for 12 years as the Corporate Safety Director. Jones was a member of the Associated Builders and Contractors and was a member of the Knightstown American Legion.
On June 29, 1991, he married Tishia Jackson, who survives. Other survivors include his father, James C. (Shank) Jones of Knightstown; his mother, Dixie Murray, Grays Lake, Ill.; a son, Bobby D. Brown, Carthage, a daughter, Rachel N. Brown of Carthage; three brothers, Jeff Jones of Greensboro, Brandon and Todd Jones of Knightstown; two sisters, Misty Jones of Grays Lake, Ill., and Stephanie Clayborn of New Castle and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Services were held Monday, November 5 at the Old Hoosier Gym Community Center in Knightstown with Rev. Leonard Dice officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery with the Knightstown American Legion conducting military graveside rites.
Visitation was Sunday, November 4 at the Todd Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the National Hepatitis Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Gertrude P. Scovell
Mar. 13, 1899 – Nov. 2, 2001
Gertrude P. Scovell, 102, a lifelong resident of Knightstown, died Friday, November 2 at Regency Place in Greenfield. She was born March 13, 1899 in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Edward and Rosa (Rhodes) Jackson.
Mrs. Scovell was a 1917 graduate of Knightstown High School and she worked for the Indiana State Dept. of Revenue in Indianapolis for many years. She was a member of the Knightstown Christian Church and a charter member of Knightstown BPW.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty (husband Judge) Linch of Knightstown; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (wife Janet) Linch of Knightstown, and Karen (husband Charles) Vise of Knightstown; three great-grandchildren, Justin Linch, and Scott and Erich Moore; and one great-great-grandchild, Hagan Moore.
Services for Mrs. Scovell were held Tuesday, November 6 at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel, Knightstown with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday, November 5 at the funeral home.

John E. Breece
Sept. 19, 1925 – Nov. 1, 2001
John E. (Shorty) Breece, 76, of Greenfield, died Thursday, November 1 at Hancock Memorial Hospital. He was born September 19, 1925, a son of John M. and Laura (Catt) Breece in Greenfield.
Mr. Breece was retired from Chrysler Corp. He was a member of the American Legion Post #119 in Greenfield and served in the Navy during World War II.
On December 30, 1961, he married Ada Breece, who survives. Other survivors include five sons, Edward Breece, Greenfield, Larry Breece, Wilkinson, Mike Breece, Greenfield, Jesse Carlin, Carthage, and Bud Passmore, Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Laura Kay Breece, Greenfield, Becky Carroll, Wilkinson, and Joan Duffy, Indianapolis; one sister, Mildred Christie of Arlington; and 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, one son, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.
Services were held Monday, November 5 at Pasco Memorial Mortuary in Greenfield with burial in Curry’s Chapel Cemetery in Greenfield. Visitation was held Sunday, November 4 at the funeral home.
Jack William Loudenback
May 12, 1919 – Nov. 1, 2001
Jack William Loudenback, 82, of Inveress, Fla., died Thursday, November 1 at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. He was born Mary 12, 1919 in Knightstown, a son of Henry C. and Loma Estell Loudenback.
Mr. Loudenback was a World War II Army veteran. He retired form Delco Remy in 1976 after 31 years of employment. He moved to Middletown in 1941 and retired in Florida in 1978. HE was a member of the UAW and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge 271 where he was master in 1947. He was a member of the OES and Past Worthy Patron.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Maxine Cronk; three sons, Max of Ft. Myers, Fla., Leland of Temecula, Calif., and Thad of Tampa, Fla.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 6 at Miller Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Burnett officiating. Visitation was Monday, November 5 at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, Middletown Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Middletown EMS, Box 1, Middletown, IN 47356.
