Paul W. Jefferis

Paul W. Jefferis, 65, of Lewisville, died Saturday, October 6 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Wayne County August 18, 1936, a son of the late Howard Jefferis and Sylvia Smith Jefferis DeBruler.
Mr. Jefferis retired from DANA Corp. after 25 years of service, having worked at both the Rushville and New Castle plants as a molder. Fore the past 14 years, he had worked as a custodian at Tri High School. He moved to Lewisville from Straughn 30 years ago. HE enjoyed mowing lawns and mowed several in the Lewisville and Spiceland area.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Thompson Jefferis, whom he married October 26, 1956 in New Castle; one son, Terry R. (wife, Sarah) Jefferis of Spiceland; two daughters, Lois (husband, Ernie) Strange of New Castle, and Paula (husband Donn) Stevens of Lewisville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob (wife, Carol) Jefferis of Texas and Raymond (wife, Sandy) Jefferis of Richmond; three sisters, Phyllis Ballenger (friend, Howard Rader) of New Castle, Dorothy Hubble of Missouri and Margaret Jennings of Richmond; three half-brothers, Richard, Rick and Wilbur DeBruler; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel with Rev. Linda Philabaun officiating. Burial will be in the Lewisville Cemetery.
Visitation was Tuesday, October 9 at the funeral home.
Joyce I. Holliday
March 20, 1940 – Oct. 7, 2001
Joyce I. Holliday, 61, a resident of the Warrington community died Sunday, October 7 at Hancock Memorial Hospital, Greenfield, following an extended illness.
She was born March 20, 1940 in Shirley, a daughter of the late Claude and Helen Elizabeth (Van Astram) Brown. Mrs. Holliday was retired from Eastern Hancock School system as a custodian and she was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Manual High School in Indianapolis.
Survivors include her husband, Marion L. (Bud) Holliday of Warrington; one daughter, Debra (Crowder) Swincher of Warrington, one grandson, Richard Swincher and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Swincher, both of Warrington; four stepsons, Rick Holliday of Greenfield, Ron and Randy Holliday of Wilkinson, and Roger Holliday of Kennard; two stepdaughters, Robin Mercer of Indianapolis and Rhonda Lay of Coatsville; 10 step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald and Paul Brown of Greenfield, and Harold Brown of Morristown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 11 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jack Holliday officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery.
Friends may call today (Wednesday, Oct. 1) from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Verdie E. Nugent
Aug. 25, 1931 - Oct. 8, 2001
Verdie E. (Young) Nugent, 70, died Monday, October 8 at her residence in Indianapolis. Mrs. Nugent was raised in the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home at Knightstown. She was born August 25, 1931.
She had worked as a waitress for Bob Evans for four years, retiring in 1992. She previously worked for 15 years as a waitress at Smileys Steakhouse in Indianapolis.
She is survived by five children, Ida B. Taylor, Sharon K. Pridemore, Alice C. Becom, Darrell L. Nugent and Ronald A. Nugent; two sisters, Mary Tutrow and Ima Jean Litwiler; and one brother, Russell White; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Her husband Jack Nugent preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 11at Flanner-Buchanan Speedway Mortuary with burial in Union Chapel Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Charles R. Hughett
July 21, 1948 – Oct. 8, 2001
Charles R. Hughett, 53, of 1897N CR 150E, Connersville, died Monday, October 8 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born July 21 1948 in Robins, Tenn., a son of Robert and June Walker Hughett.
Mr. Hughett spent his childhood in the Kennard area and attended high school in Knightstown before moving to Connersville where lived for 25 years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #1 and AMVETS Post 11. Hughett was in the Army from 1968-1971, serving in Germany. He was currently employed at Cinram in Richmond. He had previously worked at Textron in Morristown and D&M/WCI in Connersville.
Survivors include his wife Janet Flowers Gragg Hughett, whom he married July 2, 1999 in Hamilton, Ohio; his father, Robert Hughett of Kennard; one daughter, LaDina (husband, Louis) Plants of Connersville; one son, Devon Hughett of Connersville; two brothers, Ed Hughett of Lewisville and Dennis Hughett of Knightstown; two sisters, Shirley (husband, Tom) Thompson of Millville, and Brenda Hannan of New Castle; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
His mother, June Walker Hughett who died in 1998, and his grandparents preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 11 at the Urban Winkler Funeral Home with Eric Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 10 from 5-8 p.m.
Ruth A. Hanna
March 1, 1907 – Oct. 9, 2001
Ruth A. Hanna, 94, a resident of Greenfield died Tuesday, October 9 at the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield following a brief illness. She was born March 1, 1907 in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Harvey and Frances (McCray) Reger.
The homemaker had served as president of the Indiana Federation of China Painters from 1972-1973, was a member of the Riley China Painters Guild, vice president of the Wilkinson Senior Citizens and an active member of the Jessy Dorsey Women’s Circle of the Trinity Park United Methodist Church in Greenfield.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Williams, and stepdaughter Wilma Wickliff, both of Greenfield; a step-grandson Jay Wickliff of Virginia; a step-granddaughter Linda Petty of Fortville; three step-great-grandchildren, a niece, Frances Inbody of Dayton, Ohio; two great nephews and a great-grand-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Hanna in 1978 and a brother, Charles Reger in 1980.
Services were held Thursday, October 11 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Michael Manning of the Trinity Park UMC officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday prior to the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Park UMC in Greenfield.
Charles “Button” Rozzell
May 3, 1914 – Oct. 11, 2001
Charles “Button” Rozzell, 87, a resident of Wilkinson, died Thursday, October 11 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born May 3, 1914 in Warrington, a son of the late Elmer and Mary Belle (Stanley) Rozzell.
Rozzell was a 1932 graduate of Wilkinson High School. He retired in 1972 from Guide Lamp in Anderson after 40 years of service. The veteran of World War II had served in the U.S. Navy. He was a 50 year member of the Noblesville Masonic Lodge #57 F & AM and a member of the Wilkinson Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marthanna (Payne) Rozzell of Wilkinson; three nieces, Gwen Peacock and Sandy Priest, both of Greenfield, and Janye Nibarger of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; one nephew, Mark Rozzell of Carthage; and one brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Beth Rees of Fishers.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom, Ted, James and Howard Rozzell; and three sisters, Geneva Masters, Wanda Reedy and Naomi Swinford.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 15 at the Wilkinson Church of Christ with Greg Marksberry and Olin Hay officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery with graveside military services by the Knightstown American Legion Post. Visitation was at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson Sunday, October 14.

Mildred Fox
Sept. 16, 1924 – Oct. 16, 2001
Mildred Fox, 77, of Knightstown, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 16. She was born September 16, 1924 in Spiceland, the daughter of George M. and Ruth E. (Craft) Chew.
She had lived her whole life in Knightstown and was a graduate of Knightstown High School. She and her husband John owned and operated the G-2 Café (now Knightstown Café) for 17 years. Mildred worked there for many years prior to owning it.
Survivors include her husband John W. Fox whom she married in January of 1947; two daughters, Linda (husband, David) Glenn and Leeta Jane Glenn, both of Knightstown; one brother, Ralph Chew of Knightstown; five grandchildren, John Wayne Glenn, Melinda (husband, David) Richardson, Kelley Jane Glenn, David Lee Glenn and Dustin Ryan Glenn; and four great-grandchildren, John Derek Glenn, Benjamin Alan Richardson, Andrew James Richardson and Tyler Douglas Glenn.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Christopher Michael Richardson; a son-in-law, William Fred Glenn; and six brothers, George M. Jr., Harold, Howard, Kenneth, Lawrence and Gilbert Chew.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 19 at Greene’s Funeral Home in Knightstown with burial in Glen Cove Cemetery.
