Parmer Lemuel Lee

Parmer Lemuel Lee, 89, of Washington, died Sunday, March 11 at Daviess Community Hospital.
He was born April 9, 1911, a son of the late John Marshal and Daisy Inez (Fisher) Lee.
Mr. Lee was a farmer and carpenter. He was a member of the Mount Nebo United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Berniece Shafer Lee; one son, William E. Lee of Knightstown; three daughters, Jeaneete E. DeVine of Odon, Shirley A. Wade of Washington, and Sharon K. Akles of Shoals; one brother, David Lee of Switz City; 18 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, march 14 at the Mount Nebo United Methodist Church. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mathew E. Lee 4-H Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Jeanne Butcher Swinford
Sept. 3, 1908 – Apr. 14, 2001
Jeanne Butcher Swinford, 92, of Okeechobee, Fla. and a former Knightstown resident, died Saturday, April 14 at Extenda Care in Okeechobee.
She was born Sept. 3, 1908 in Chicago, Ill., a daughter of the late Roy and Hilda MacDonald. Prior to moving to Florida, she and her first husband, Paul Butcher, owned the Butcher Funeral Home in Knightstown. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Mrs. Swinford had also been employed at Rody’s Department Store in Knightstown and was a former member of Knightstown Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Vernie Swinford of Okeechobee; a son, Jerry G. (wife, Marilyn) Butcher of Knightstown; a grandson, Tony Butcher of Green Bay, Wisc., a step-granddaughter, six great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Pastor Bill House officiating.
Friends may call at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel on Thursday, April 19 from noon until 2 p.m. Memorial s may be made to the American Cancer Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Hazel V. Whitcraft
May 12, 1920 – May 17, 2001
Hazel V. (Garner) Whitcraft, 81, of Marion, died May 17at Marion General Hospital.
She was born in Spiceland May 12, 1920, a daughter of the late Bradley and Amy Garner. She grew up in Greensboro and graduated from Kennard High School. She also was a graduate from Muncie Business College and moved to Marion in 1949.
She is survived her husband, James R. Whitcraft, whom she married Aug. 16, 1941 two daughters, Amy (husband John) Anderson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. And Anne (husband George) Garrett of Indianapolis; a son, Dick Whitcraft of Cassopolis; a brother, Keith Garner of Greensboro; two sisters, Lois Strauch and Mary Travis, both of New Castle; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, May 21 at First Christian Church in Marion. Burial was at Gardens of Memory in Huntington County. Visitation was Sunday at the Needham-Storey-Wampler Funeral Service in Marion.
Donald Lee Lacy
Oct. 11, 1942 – Apr. 11, 2001
A nephew of area residents, Donald Lee Lacy, 58, died April 11 at his residence in Palm Bay, Fla. He was born Oct. 11, 1942 in Terre Haute and was the son of the late Charles and Gladys (Reed) Lacy.
He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1960, Purdue University in 1964 with a B.S.E.E. and the University of Florida in 1970 – Juris Doctor. He later was admitted to practice before the Supreme Courts of Florida and the United States. He was a member of Eta Kappa Nu (Electrical Engineering Honorary) and Tau Beta Pi (All Engineering Honorary). He practiced law in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and, most recently, in Palm Bay.
Survivors include his sister Gail (husband, Homer) Trammell of Greentown, aunts and uncles, Betty Newkirk of Dunreith, Ruth and Bob Pickering of Kirklin, Beverly McDonald of Knightstown, Geraldine and Arthur Perry of Palm Bay, FL, Dorothy and Charles Lingerfelt of Stonyford, CA, Audrey and Russell McDonald of Riverside, CA, and several cousins.
Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday, May 26 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown, with Rev. Kenton Smith officiating. The Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes or the American Diabetes Association.
Janice L. Fitch
Feb. 22, 1937 – May 11, 2001
Janice L. Fitch, 64, of Arlington, died Friday, May 11 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Feb. 22, 1937 in Madison, the daughter of Foster B. and Vivian Barber Wilson.
Mrs. Fitch was a housewife and mother. She was a 1995 graduate of Carthage High School, a member of the Carthage Friends Meeting and the Carthage Lions Club.
On July 14, 1957, she married Tives “Tib” Fitch and he survives her.
Other survivors include two sons, Denny J. Fitch of Shelbyville, and Perry D. Fitch of Knightstown; two daughters, “Kileen” (husband, Phil) Piles of Arlington, and Gayla (husband, Rick) Harris of Knightstown; her father. Foster B. Wilson of Arlington; two brothers, Marlin and Foster W. Wilson, both of Arlington; a sister, Barbara (husband, Robert) Proctor of Arlington; and grandchildren, Clint and Carly Piles and Kara and Chris Harris.
Services were held Tuesday, May 15 at the Carthage Friends Meeting with Rev. Richard Doughty officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation was on Monday, May 14 at the Carthage Friends Meeting. Todd Funeral Home Carthage Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Carthage Friends Meeting.
Lucille E. Lee
Oct. 20, 1905 – May 10, 2001
Lucille E. Lee, 95, of Knightstown died May 10 at The Waters in New Castle.
She was born Oct. 20, 1905 in Albany, Ky., a daughter of William and Eliza Moles Stockton.
Mrs. Lee was a retired telephone operator, having been employed by the U.S. Government. She was a member of the Knightstown Christian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Katherine E. Iseley of Knightstown; two sisters, Betty (husband, Robert) of Knightstown, and Gladys Boyd of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.C. Lee, whom she married in 1952, four brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services were Monday, May 14 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Rev. Richard Thayer officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society with envelopes available at Todd Funeral Home Butcher Chapel in Knightstown.
Mary L. “Peggy” Wager
Jan. 30, 1914 – May 6, 2001
Mary L. “Peggy” Wager, 87, died Sunday, May 6 in the Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
Mrs. Wager was born Jan. 30, 1914 in Rush County, the daughter of the late Thomas and Amanda Brown Gross. She married Glenroy Velmore “Jack” Wager on May 28, 1928 and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1965.
She had lived all her life in Rushville and Rush County. Mrs. Wager was a member of the Center Christian Church. She also worked several years as a Home Health Aide and Practical Nurse, drove a school bus for the Rush County School system for 14 years, was a foster grandparent and also worked at ISSCH as a cook and at the Warren and Ramsey Drive-in in Knightstown.
Survivors include two sons, John Wager of Auburn, CA, and Marlin L. Wager of Greensburg; three daughters, Janet (Robert) Jackson of Knightstown, Susie (Donald) Moore of Knightstown, and Diana (Gary) Ross of Falmouth; a sister, Myrtle Bensen, Rushville; 13 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services for Mrs. Wager will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10 at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with Bill Worrell presiding. Burial will be in Center Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center Christian Church or the Center Cemetery Fund.
