Betty A. Outt
Aug. 6, 1930 – Sept. 20, 2001
Betty A. Outt, 71, a resident of Riverton, Kans., died Thursday, September 20 at Rush Memorial Hospital in Rushville. She was born August 6, 1930 in Lafayette, a daughter of the late Thomas H. and Helen Louise (Anderson) King.
She attended school at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home in Knightstown and had lived in Knightstown and Shirley prior to moving to Riverton 2 ½ years ago. Her favorite pastime was reading.
Betty was married to Howard R. Outt, Jr., on May 7, 1949, in Indianapolis, and he survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Thomas Outt, San Francisco, Calif., and Kevin Paul Outt of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, John King, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and two grandchildren, Tyler Outt and Allison Outt.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Stewart and Mary Louise Cardwell.
Services were held Wednesday, September 26 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena, Kans. with Roy Derfelt officiating. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena.
Visitation for family and friends was Tuesday, September 25 at the funeral home.
Meredith T. Nibarger
Sept. 14, 1920 – Sept. 28, 2001
Meredith T. “Ted” Nibarger, 81, of Knightstown, died Friday, September 28 in Greenfield.
The former Hancock County resident, was an avid antique collector. He retired from General Motors, Delco Remy at Anderson and served in the U.S., Coast Guard during WW II.
He is survived by a sister, Wanda Chittenden of Greenfield; an aunt, Maxine Webber of Franklin; a niece, Darlene Lingenfelter of Knightstown; and a nephew, Dan Chittenden of Indianapolis.
Graveside services were held at Park Cemetery Tuesday, October 2. Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 1 at Pasco Memorial Mortuary on Monday, October 1.
Charles Jones
Aug. 21, 1938 – Sept. 27, 2001
Charles “Jack” Jones, 63, of Cambridge City, died Thursday, September 27 at Miller’s Merry Manor East, Indianapolis, after an extended illness.
He was born in Burrville, Tenn., August 21, 1938, a son of the late Mintford and Elsie Dixon Jones.
Jones moved to Indiana, having lived in the Cambridge City area for the past 34 years. He was a machinist for seven years at Chrysler Corp., New Castle, retiring in April 2001. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors are his wife of 34 years, Linda J. Day Jones whom he married March 24, 1967 in Knightstown; a daughter, Melissa F. (husband, Michael) Hall of Richmond; a son, Mark A. Jones of Cambridge City; two grandchildren, Brandi and Dillon; one great-grandson, Austin; five brothers, Kenneth Jones of New Orleans, LA, James (Shank) Jones of Knightstown, Vernon Jones of Carthage, Roy Jones of Shelbyville, and Roland Jones of Georgia; one sister, Linda Sullivan of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 1 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Dublin with Rev. Dennis DeWitt officiating. Burial was in South Lawn Cemetery, Dublin with military graveside services conducted by the Wayne County Veterans Assoc. and American Legion Post 169 of Cambridge City.
Visitation was held Sunday, September 30 and on Monday prior to services at the funeral home.
Gregory J. Graham
Jan. 24, 1954 – Sept. 27, 2001
Gregory (Greg) J. Graham, 47, a resident of Wilkinson died Thursday, September 27 in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. He was born January 24, 1954 in Greenfield, a son of Wallace and Lorna Mae (Reger) Graham.
Mr. Graham was a 1972 graduate of Eastern Hancock Jr.-Sr. High School in Charlottesville. He retired in June 2001 from Indiana Knitwear after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Wilkinson Church of Christ. He was also an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Marcia (Paulidis) Graham whom he married April 9, 1983; two daughters, Amanda Leigh Graham-Wisehart of Indianapolis, and Ashley Nicole Graham of Wilkinson; one son, Aaron Michael Graham of Wilkinson; his father, Wallace Graham of Wilkinson; and a brother, Gary Graham of Wanamaker; two nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorna Mae Graham in 1999.
Services were held Monday October 1 at the Wilkinson Church of Christ with Jeff Sawyer officiating. Burial was in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Visitation for family and friends was Sunday, September 30 at the Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.
Josephine L. Alexander
Feb. 9, 1907 – Sept. 28, 2001
Josephine L. Alexander, 94, of Carthage, died Friday, September 28 at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. She was born February 9, 1907 in Carthage, a daughter of Earl and Edith (Parish) Herkless.
She was a graduate of Butler University and had taught elementary education at Arlington and Carthage schools for many years. After retiring from teaching she served as librarian at Henry Henley Public Library in Carthage for several years.
Survivors include one son, William Alexander of Carthage; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph; two daughters, Patricia Dudley and Mary Lou Hyatt; and her brother Eugene, who was reported missing in action in Korea in 1950 and was never found; and her sister Nadine Tetrick Brown.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage with Rev. Roger Campbell officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Visitation was Tuesday, October 2 at the church. Todd Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel, was in charge in arrangements.
Brent Darby Hicks
April 2, 1970 – Oct. 7, 2001
Brent Darby Hicks, 31, of Anderson and formerly of Knightstown, died at Manor Care in Anderson on October 7 from complications resulting from a brain aneurysm. He was born April 2, 1970 in Greenfield, the son of Fred Hicks and Penny Fowler.
Survivors include his father, Fred Hicks, Anderson; stepmother, Cindy Henley, Fishers; fiancée, Shelly Lane, Anderson; two sons, Kalen and Kody Hicks, Texas; and two brothers, Jesse Hicks, Noblesville, and Joshua Hicks, Kennard.
Private funeral services were held Tuesday, October 9 at 2 p.m. at the Todd Funeral Home, Butcher Chapel in Knightstown.
Private visitation was held one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Mildred M. Willis
June 21, 1928 – Oct. 7, 2001
Mildred M. Willis, 73, a resident of Shirley, died Sunday, October 7 at Brandywine Manor Convalescent Center in Greenfield. She was born June 21, 1928 in Elwood, a daughter of the late Ora and Irene (Trout) Newlan.
Mrs. Willis was a homemaker and a 1947 graduate of Mt. Summit High School.
Survivors include her husband Donald of Shirley, whom she married on November 1, 1947; one son, Ronald (wife, Betsy) Willis of Shirley; four daughters, Donita Willis, Kristi Wolski, Karen Willis and Karla Willis, both of Shirley; three grandchildren, Ryan (wife, Carey) Willis of Franklin, Joshua Willis of Greenfield, and Jared Wolski of Shirley, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Florence Willis and son-in-law, Steve Wolski.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Kurt Stone officiating. Burial will be in McCray Cemetery.
Visitation was held Tuesday, October 9 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
