Arnold Alvin Gulley
June 22, 1922 - November 7, 2009
Arnold Alvin Gulley, 87, of Morehead, Ky., a former area resident, died Nov. 7 at his home.
He was born June 22, 1922, in Lewis Co., Ky., a son of the late Essie Vernon Gulley and Lona Ethel (Pendland) Gulley.
Mr. Gulley was a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant who served for over 26 years. Mr. Gulley served during World War II and was at Normandy Beach on D Day+1. He also served in the demilitarized zone in Korea during the Vietnam War. A32nd degree Mason, Mr. Gulley worked for over 17 years in civil service at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis.
Survivors include nine children, Arnold Alvin Gulley Jr., of Milwaukee, Wisc., Carol Jane Gulley of San Jose, Cal., David Charles Gulley of Springfield, Md., Mary Susan Gulley Cappuccio of Walpole, Mass., Daniel Eric Gulley of Hope, R.I., Clifford Mead Gulley of Midwest City, Okla., Robin Mead Gulley Martellini of North Scituate, R.I., Gail Lynn Dennen Gulley of Taunton, Mass., and Brian Roger Gulley of Taunton, Mass.; two brothers, Harold Raymond Gulley of Charlottesville and Charles Homer Gulley of Knightstown; three sisters, Lula Mae Williams of Mansfield, Ohio, Mildred Garnel Kline of Carthage and Betty Lou Thurston of Rushville; seven grandchildren, Bonnie Christina Monroe of Grass Valley, Cal., Clint Gulley of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kerri Gulley of Rhode Island, Hannah Dennen of Taunton, Mass., Ian Dennen of Taunton, Jonathan Nicholas Martellini of N. Scituate, and Sofia Rosana Martellini of N. Scituate; and a great-grandson, William Eric Keeling of Grass Valley, Cal.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial with full military graveside rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152 will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation is Nov. 12 from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Robert B. Sells
November 30, 1959 - November 30, 2009
Robert B. Sells, 50, of Indianapolis, formerly of Markleville, died Nov. 30 at his home.
He was born Nov. 30, 1959, in Anderson, a son of the late Robert and Virginia (Carpenter) Sells.
Mr. Sells served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Unit. He worked as a custodian for several years at Ivy Tech in Anderson.
Survivors include a brother, James (wife, Christy) Sells of Indianapolis; a sister, Teresa (husband, Robert) Harless of Markleville; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 5 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Paul Litten officiating.
Burial, with full military graveside rites conducted by the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 Honor Guard, followed at Green Hills Memory Garden in New Castle. Visitation was Dec. 5 at the funeral home.

Trudy Mae O’Malley
June 11, 1943 - November 27, 2009
Trudy Mae O’Malley, 66, of Lebanon, formerly of Radcliff, Ky., died Nov. 27 at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
She was born June 11, 1943, in Toledo, Ohio, a daughter of the late James and Mary (Spencer) O’Malley.
Ms. O’Malley served in the U.S. Army as a soldier. She also taught computer classes. She attended Radcliff Christian Church and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine. She also belonged to the VFW in New Castle.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Hurst of Shelbyville and Todd Grady of Gainesville, Fla.; Mary Beth (husband, Ryan) Murphy of Lebanon and Nancy Ward of Liberty; two brothers, Paul (wife, Nancy) O’Malley and Jack (wife, Marilyn) O’Malley of St. George, Utah; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Following cremation, a memorial service will take place at a later date. Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown is handling arrangements.
Jack H. Evans
October 24, 1938 - December 1, 2009
Jack H. Evans, 71, of Carthage, died Dec. 1 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Oct. 24, 1938, a son of the late Raymond and Ruby (Porter) Evans.
Mr. Evans was known as a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed walks with his family and spending time with his family watching football. While serving in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Evans was a lightweight boxing champion. He also enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Emilee Evans of Carthage; a son, Kenny Evans of Greenfield; three daughters, Barbara (husband, John) Gilbert of Greenfield, Leslie (husband, Ben) Stevens of Greenfield and Rhonda (husband, James) Kracht of Carthage; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four brothers, Garry (wife, Gaye) Evans of Rushville, Larry (wife, Julie) Evans of Greenfield, Ronnie (wife, Nita) Evans of Tomahawk, Wis., and Roger (wife, Jane) Campbell of Knightstown; and three sisters, Sue Dunagan of Shelbyville, Bessie A. Vanderboom of Rushville and Judy (husband, John) Williams of Tempe, Ariz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by another father, Emery E. Campbell; and four brothers, Bill Evans, Lawrence "Tiny" Evans, Ray Evans and Bobby Campbell.
Funeral services were Dec. 5 at Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage with Pastors Roger Campbell and Garry Evans officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Knightstown American Legion Post 152 Honor Guard. Burial followed at Carthage Cemetery. Visitation was Dec. 5 at the church.

John Thomas McIntosh
April 11, 1937 - December 3, 2009
John Thomas "Buddy" McIntosh, 72, of Huntington, died Dec. 3 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
He was born April 11, 1937, in Elizaville, Ky., a son of the late Ora Dale and Eunice (Staggs) McIntosh.
Mr. McIntosh was a 1955 Fleming County (Ky.) High School graduate. He married his wife, Sara A. Wilson, in Knightstown in 1956. A member of Nepton Methodist Church in Fleming County, Mr. McIntosh was a ham radio operator with the call letters "N0MTC."
Survivors include his wife, Sara McIntosh of Huntington; his mother, Eunice McIntosh; a sister, Mary Dale (husband, Russell) Hughes of Nepton, Ky.; a niece, Julie Morris of Greenwood; and several cousins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Allen McIntosh; a daughter, Cathy McIntosh; and an infant sister.
Funeral services were Dec. 5 at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home in Huntington with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Huntington.

Wayne Draper
July 10, 1918 - December 6, 2009
Wayne Draper, 91, of Greenfield, formerly of Rush County, died Dec. 6 at Golden Living Center in Greenfield.
He was born July 10, 1918, in Posey Twp, Rush County, a son of the late Waldo and Fannie (Lightner) Draper.
Mr. Draper was a 1937 Arlington High School graduate, who started farming after school. He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 2, 1943 and later served as a heavy mortar operator in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He left the service on Nov. 19, 1945 and resumed farming. He was a member of the American Legion and attended Center Christian Church.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Teresa (husband, Chris) Smith of Wilkinson, Barbara (husband, Dave) Peterson of Greenfield, Ronda (husband, Mark) Notter of Indianapolis and Jim (wife, Amanda) Draper of Rushville; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Brian, Erik, Kevin, Duncan, Devan and Delaney; and a daughter-in-law, Mardell Wilson of Arlington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; a son, Ronnie Draper; a sister, Beatrice Park; two brothers, Donald and Glen; and a half-brother, Harold Draper.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Todd Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Bill Worrell officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will follow at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. until time of services.

Carol Kay Smith
July 14, 1948 - December 6, 2009
Carol Kay Smith, 61, of Greenfield, died Dec. 6 at her home.
She was born July 14, 1948, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Forrest and Bertha (Rumple) Steward.
Ms. Smith attended Carthage Wesleyan Church and was employed in the laundry department at Regency Place in Greenfield. She was known as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who raised two families. She had close relationships with her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her children, Melissa Grant of Knightstown, Jay Smith of Knightstown, Shelva (husband, Tommy) Stephens of Knightstown and Christopher Smith of Knightstown; her siblings, Virginia Davis of Carthage, Marion (wife, Dorothy) Steward of Carthage, Albert (wife, Shirley) Steward of Greenfield, Alice (husband, Charles) Baker of North Vernon, Violet Clay of Greenfield and Floyd (wife, Sharon) Steward of Anderson; and her grandchildren, Faith Stephens of Knightstown, Angilia Stephens of Knightstown, Denise Smith of Ohio and Sarah Stephens of Knightstown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith; a brother, Jack Steward; and a sister, Evelyn Marie Steward.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Carthage Wesleyan Church with Charles and Doug Stroud officiating. Burial will follow at Carthage Cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 9 prior to services at the church.
