Robert C. Smith

Robert C. "Bob" Smith, 74, of Markleville, died August 26 at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.
He was born Jan. 13, 1935, in Mt. Orab, Ohio, a son of the late Elmer and Elsie (Page) Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired independent truck driver. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family, friends and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen (Harris) Smith of Markleville; four daughters, Lisa (husband, Marvin) Foust of Carthage, Melanie (husband, Eric) Hallgarth of Anderson, Carrie (husband, Wes) Dennis of Muncie and Kelly (husband, Jeremy) Pennington of Alexandria; a son, Robby Smith of Markleville; seven grandchildren, Uriaha (wife, Casey) Foust, Evan and Alan Hallgarth, Wesley and Cameron Dennis, McKenna Pennington and Austin Smith; three sisters, Hazel Smith of Wilkinson, Grace Ebbert of Greenfield and Martha Fry of Greenfield; a brother, Homer Smith of Sweetwater, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Lynn Smith; and his stepmother, Juanita Smith.
Funeral services were August 29 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial followed at Harlan Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was August 29 at the funeral home.
Mary Kathleen Bever
July 17, 1927 - August 26, 2009
Mary Kathleen Bever, 82, of Charlottesville, died August 26 at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield.
She was born July 17, 1927, in Rush County, a daughter of the late Ora and Cora (Six) Mattix.
Mrs. Bever was a 1945 Carthage High School graduate, who retired from Indiana Bell Telephone in 1979 after 32 years of service. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and Communication Workers of America. She enjoyed being a homemaker and listening to country music.
Survivors include a brother, John R. Mattix of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Lee Bever; a son, Stewart W. Bever; two sisters, Annabelle Powers and Helen "Juanita" Boring; and a brother, Lawrence B. Mattix.
Graveside funeral services were August 29 at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Rev. Jack Hannum officiating. Visitation was August 29 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown.

Jerry W. Nicholas
November 18, 1945 - August 26, 2009
Jerry W. Nicholas, 63, of Spiceland, died August 26 at his home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1945, in Henry County, a son of the late Walter and Hattie (Hughes) Nicholas.
A 1964 Spiceland High School graduate, Mr. Nicholas played basketball for the Spiceland Stingers. He also attended IU East in Richmond. Mr. Nicholas retired from Chrysler Corporation after 34 years of service. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and UAW Local #371. An avid golfer, he also enjoyed playing poker.
Survivors include his wife, Terri Nicholas of Spiceland; a daughter, Michelle Nicholas of Pendleton; a son, Larry Nicholas of Massena, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Brandi Carnes of New Castle; two stepsons, Matthew Carnes and Alex Carnes, both of New Castle; two grandchildren, Jake Nicholas and Samantha Holie Brown; a step-grandson, Zachary Baldock; three sisters, Josephine Hammond of Spiceland, Shirley Ann Clark of New Castle and Frances Madden of Florida; and a brother, Andy (wife, Betty) Nicholas of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Fonza Parker and Marcella Maloney; a brother, Amos Nicholas; a brother-in-law, Cecil Hammond; a niece, Angela Baker; and a nephew, Steven Hammond.
Funeral services were August 31 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Carol Wiley officiating. Burial followed at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition, in New Castle. Visitation was August 30 at the funeral home. Military graveside rites were conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152.

Graydon Ray Patrick
April 16, 1938 - August 26, 2009
Graydon Ray Patrick, 71, of Knightstown, died August 26 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born April 16, 1938, in Olive Hill, Ky., a son of the late Tivis and Dessie (Plank) Patrick.
Mr. Patrick worked at Delco Remy for 30 years before retiring. He enjoyed gardening, mowing and spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Virgie L. (Logan) Patrick; four children, Gordon (wife, Paulette) Patrick of Greenfield, Jeff (wife, Teresa) Patrick of New Castle, Larry (wife, Susan) Patrick of Greentown and Sharon (husband, Gary) Mohler of Greenfield; nine grandchildren; and three brothers, Burgess (wife, Betty) Patrick, Norman (wife, Arlene) Patrick and Gary (wife, Ramona) Patrick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alicia Ann Patrick.
Funeral services were August 29 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was August 28 at the funeral home.
John R. Seyfferle
April 3, 1938 - August 28, 2009
John R. Seyfferle, 71, of Knightstown, died August 28 at his home.
He was born April 3, 1938, near Greenfield, a son of the late John Henry and Luella (Barnard) Seyfferle.
Mr. Seyfferle retired from Delco Remy after 31 years of service. He was also a farmer, real estate broker, and owner of J&B Real Estate, along with his late wife, Betty. He enjoyed raising Tennessee walking horses.
Survivors include a son, John Chris (wife, Nancy) Seyfferle of Shirley; two stepsons, Michael Zornes of Greensboro and Steve Ray (wife, Lori) Zornes of Florida; eight grandchildren, Andrea Jones of Elwood, Zachary Zornes of Knightstown, Dustin (wife, Brittany) Seyfferle of Rushville, Derek Seyfferle of Shirley, Ashley Wilhelm of Spiceland, Brittany (husband, Alf) Cox of Spiceland, Kristi (husband, Beau) Mohler of South Carolina and Michael Gardner of Shirley; 10 great-grandchildren, Aleysha Jones, Shane Jones, Christian High, Alexis High, Ian Seyfferle, Macy Seyfferle, Addison Seyfferle, Dominick Stewart, Nathan Cox and Myah Gardner; a sister, Virginia Walker of Greenfield; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Jack White, Jerry (wife, Mary) White, Evelyn (husband, George) Mason and Shirley Sullivan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; a stepdaughter, Julie Ann Zornes; a niece, Janice Ellis; and a great-grandson, Steven Stewart.

Martha Jane Hood
May 21, 1924 - August 31, 2009
Martha Jane (Cline) Hood, 85, of New Castle, died August 31 at Heritage House in New Castle.
She was born May 21, 1924, in Lincoln, Mo., a daughter of the late Roscoe G. and Coy F. (Carter) Cline.
Mrs. Hood was a former member of the Modern Mothers Club. She enjoyed reading and watching old movies. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed music and singing.
Survivors include her husband, Leland Hood of New Castle; two sons, Darry (wife, Sue) Hood of Knightstown and Keith (wife, Rosalie) Hood of Kokomo; five grandchildren, Scott (wife, Deanna) Hood of Lebanon, Andy (wife, Jennifer) Hood of New Castle, Allison (husband, James) Steger of Michigan, Josh (wife, Nicole) Hood of Fishers and Emily (husband, Rich) McCorkle of Knightstown; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Shirl (husband, Tom) Barnes of Greensburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Charles Cline; two sisters, Margo Jester and Randy Laswell; and two infant brothers.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Russ Lutes officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition, in New Castle. Visitation is 11 a.m. until time of services on September 2 at the funeral home.

Edna P. Nibarger
November 15, 1917 - September 1, 2009
Edna P. (McCune) Nibarger, 91, of Anderson, formerly of Markleville, died Sept. 1 at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson.
She was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Danville, a daughter of the late Barton T. and Lottie (Wagner) McCune.
Mrs. Nibarger retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 35 years of service. She was a member of Delco Remy Golden Age and Killbuck Retirees Club, Jolly Eight Club, Kennard Brotherhood and Sisterhood and the Triad Club.
Survivors include a son, Robert Nibarger of Virginia Beach, Va.; two granddaughters, Carmen (husband, John) Compton of Cogan Station, Penn., and Krista (husband, Josh) Hodsden of Concord, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Jack Compton and Amelia Hodsden; two sisters, Rosealee McKee of Monrovia and Betty Martin of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Vaughn; two sisters, Virginia Horner and Leona McCarty; and a brother, Albert McCune.
Funeral services were September 5 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed at Grove Lawn Cemetery in Pendleton. Vistation was September 5 at the funeral home.
