Sherry Ann Reeves

May 29, 1979 - April 18, 2010

Sherry Ann (Spencer) Reeves, 30, of Knightstown, died April 18 in Rushville.

She was born May 29, 1979, in Richmond, a daughter of Les A. and Jill (Silvers) Spencer.

Mrs. Reeves was a 1997 National Trail High School and Miami Valley Career Technology Center graduate. She was a member of National Trail High School Marching Band. Active in Girl Scouts from a young age, Mrs. Reeves earned Girl Scouting’s highest honor, The Golden Award. She worked for seven years at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond. She enjoyed collecting movies, reading and watching reality television.

Survivors include her husband, Jeremiah R. Reeves; a daughter, Makayla C. Reeves; her parents, Les A. and Jill (Silvers) Spencer of New Paris, Ohio; a brother, Tony Spencer of New Paris; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Eileen Silvers of New Paris; paternal grandfather, Charles W. Spencer of West Alexandria, Ohio; her fathers- in-law and mothers-in-law, Eric and Belladora Rodenberg of Knightstown and Robert and Kelly Reeves of Greenville, Mich.; her grandmother-in-law, Eva Marie Johnson of Richmond; her step grandmother-in-law, Agnes P. Rodenberg of Pendleton; and sev eral aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Sara E. (Cossins) Spencer; her paternal step-grandmother, Sharon B. Spencer; an uncle, James Silvers; and her step-grandfather-in-law, Newman C. Johnson.

Funeral services were April 23 at Barnes Funeral Home in New Paris with Rev. Mark Herbkersman officiating. Burial followed at Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris. Visitation was April 23 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Makayla C. Reeves Education Fund, in care of Jeremiah Reeves, at Perfect Circle Credit Union in New Castle.

Charlotta Mae Rummel

August 21, 1933 - May 11, 2010

Charlotta Mae "Lottie" Rummel, 76, of Carthage, died May 11 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Henry County, a daughter of the late Herschel L. and Vera Nellie (Dishman) Hawk.

Mrs. Rummel lived in Carthage since 1974. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, canning, camping and fishing.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Rummel of Carthage; three daughters, Vicki (husband, Jeff) Toon of Manilla, Cathy Louise Rummel of Economy and Cammy (husband, Jeff) Theobald of New Castle; three sons, Jeff (wife, Kathy) Rummel of Knightstown, Randy Rummel of Knightstown and Tim Rummel of Wilkinson; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Cole of Lewisville; and a brother, Dale "Buck" (wife, Carole) Hawk of New Castle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Louise Hawk; and a grandson, Justin Theobald.

Funeral services were May 17 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Rev. Marion Hickman officiating. Burial followed at Lewisville Cemetery. Visitation was May 16 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mack B. Hardyman

March 30, 1930 - April 30, 2010

Mack B. Hardyman, 80, of Charlottesville, died April 30 at Regency Place Nursing Home in Greenfield.

He was born March 30, 1930, in Lewis Co., Ky., a son of the late Henry and Gladys (Little) Hardyman.

Mr. Hardyman lived in Charlottesville for 40 years, having moved there from Kentucky. A retired farmer, he was an avid NASCAR and Atlanta Braves fan.

Survivors include his wife, Gracie Hardyman of Charlottesville; three sons, Tom (wife, Patty) Hardyman of Knightstown, Terry Hardyman of Greenfield and Todd Hardyman of Charlottesville; three sisters, Mable Rowe of Greenfield, June McRoberts of Odessa, Fla., and Bonnie (husband, Russ) Long of Greenfield; two granddaughters, Tara (husband, Adam) Copp of New Castle and Ashley Sue Hardyman of McCordsville; and a great-grandson, Evan Nicklos Copp of New Castle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Carolyn Sue Hardyman and Lisa Kay Hardyman; and nine brothers.

Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Steve Rayburn officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 12-2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the funeral home.

Roger Ward

July 9, 1952 - April 27, 2010

Roger Ward, 75, of rural New Castle, died April 27.

He was born July 9, 1952, in Spiceland, a son of the late Chester and Pauline (Crandall) Ward.

Mr. Ward was a 1952 Spiceland High School graduate and a well-known farmer for over 55 years. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer in Henry County Award in 1968. Mr. Ward worked in the Chrysler hammer shop and at Modernfold in New Castle. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was very active in local civic and social activities. A member of the New Castle Elks Club, he was also a member of the Spiceland Lions Club. He received his 50-year membership award from the New Castle Masonic Lodge. A three-time past master in the Spiceland Masonic Lodge, Mr. Ward was also involved in Order of the Eastern Star, having served many years as worthy patron in the Spiceland O.E.S. Additionally, he served on the South Henry School Corporation Board of Trustees for 16 years and was a member Spiceland Methodist Church. He also attended Spiceland Friends Meeting.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Anderson) Ward; two daughters, Suzanne (husband, Jeff) Stiller of Greenfield and Mindy (husband, Steve) Rose of Middleton, Wisc.; four grandsons, Mitchell Ward Stiller, Wesley Ryan Stiller, Griffin Ward Rose and Garrett Robert Rose; a sister, Kay (husband, Ron) Lightfoot of New Castle; a brother-in-law, Ron Anderson of New Castle; two nephews, Scott (wife, Susan) Lightfoot of New Castle and Rick (wife, Jody) Anderson of Sutherlin, Ore.; two nieces, Jody (husband, Tony) Mitchell of New Castle and Kecia (husband, J.R.) Adams of Roseburg, Ore.; and several cousins.

Funeral services were May 1 at Spiceland Friends Meeting with David Brock and Richard Ratcliff officiating. Burial followed at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle. Visitation was April 30 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Masonic services took place April 30.

Monte R. Gorman

April 29, 1949 - May 6, 2010

Monte R. Gorman, 61, of Knightstown, died May 6 at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born April 29, 1949, in New Castle, a son of the late Lawrence and Virginia (Ayers) Gorman.

Mr. Gorman enjoyed building things and took pride in his work. He owned and operated Gorman Portable Buildings for 25 years, and worked for Sheehan Construction for the past 12 years. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, fishing and watching NASCAR races. Mr. Gorman also enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and cars, watching Sponge Bob with his grandchildren, home-cooked meals and taking scenic routes in his new truck.

Survivors include his wife, Roxie (Roland) Gorman of Knightstown; three children, Morgan Clements of New Castle, Randy (wife, Jill) Gorman of Knightstown and Casi Gorman of Knightstown; three grandchildren, Keegan York of New Castle and Bryce and Camden Gorman of Knightstown; five siblings, Ginger Loveall of Knightstown, Duane (wife, Kyong) Gorman of South Carolina, Sandy Back of Knightstown, Susan (husband, Steve) Beeler of Rushville and Larry Gorman, Jr., of Knightstown; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry and Kelley Roland and Darrell "Whitey" and Phyllis Roland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy and Peggy.

Funeral services were May 8 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Russ Hooker officiating. Visitation was May 8 at the funeral home.

Melissa Hogan

January 22, 1963 - May 5, 2010

Melissa Hogan, 47, of Knightstown, died May 5 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born Jan. 22, 1963, in Dayton, Ohio, a daughter of Donna (Christopher) Dearth and the late Gerald Dearth.

Mrs. Hogan lived on a small farm and enjoyed working with her animals, especially her dogs. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, planting flowers, camping, canoeing and hiking. Known as a devoted wife, loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, she enjoyed spend ing time with her grandchildren. She was known as a good friend and listener.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Hogan of Knightstown; a son, James (wife, Bryanne) Hogan of Knightstown; a daughter, Heather (husband, Ray) Poe of Bedford, Ky.; three grand- children, Baylor and Elliotte Hogan of Knightstown and Dalton Poe of Bedford, Ky.; her mother, Donna Dearth of Midway, Ohio; two sisters, Janet (husband, Ray) Agee of Greenville, Ohio, and Belinda Rudicil of Midway, Ohio; a brother, Bobby Dearth of Columbus, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Pamela Johnson of Knightstown; two nieces, Christian Dearth and Katie Agee; and three nephews, Josh and Jason Rudicil, and Steve Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services were May 11 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Mark Simmermon officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was May 10 at the funeral home.

James Albert Weir

May 6, 1961 - May 8, 2010

James Albert "Jamie" Weir, 49, of Shirley, died May 8.

He was born May 6, 1961.

Survivors include his wife, Shannon Weir; children Christopher Lee Jones, James (wife, Erin) Weir, Jr., Jordon (wife, Kari) Weir, Jadon Weir and Dencill Weir; stepsons Dustin Kwisz, Jacob Kwisz and Cameron Jones; grandchildren Jackson Jones, Cameron Jones, Dillon Jones, Landon Weir, Kaleb Weir, Jordon Weir and Logan Weir; and his parents, Albert C. Weir and Cynthia Ann Johnson-Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ken Phillips.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, Washington Park East, Indianapolis. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the funeral home.
