Dorothy E. Marshall

Dorothy E. Marshall, 85, of Willow Branch, died May 24 at her home.
She was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Calloway and Smara (Collins) Isaacs.
Mrs. Marshall was a Hancock County Jail cook for over 15 years. She was a member of Willow Branch United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of The County Harmony Home Economics Club. An avid artist, Mrs. Marshall enjoyed harness racing.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Parks of Willow Branch, Brenda (husband, Greg) Troy of Pendleton and Judy (husband, Don) of Willow Branch; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Hazel Rozzell, Joan McClarnon, Charlene (husband, Lester) Johnson, Marilyn (husband, Delbert) Runyon and Jane (husband, Bill) Miller; and three brothers, Bill (wife, Ruth) Isaacs, Jack (wife, Barbara) Delhagen and Everett (wife, Barbara) Delhagen.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon; a daughter, Jeannette Stevens; an infant son, Steven; two brothers, Wayne and Robert Isaacs; and two sisters, Mayme Pass and Juanita Johnson.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Adam Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Gravel Lawn Cemetery in Fortville. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the funeral home.

Richard Arlin “Dick” Butler
Aug. 28, 1932 – May 25, 2009
Richard Arlin “Dick” Butler, 76, of Spiceland, died May 25 at his home.
He was born Aug. 28, 1932, near Haldeman, Ky., a son of the late John Henry and Stella (Egan) Butler.
Mr. Butler retired from Chrysler after 30 years of service as an electrician. He previously worked at Meadow Gold Dairy and Perfect Circle. Mr. Butler served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954, with most of his time spent in Germany building large refrigeration units. He was a member of Spiceland Methodist Church and recently attended Spiceland Friends Meeting. Mr. Butler and his family were very involved in Scouting, Little League and 4-H, in which he developed electrical and rocket programs. He enjoyed visiting local grade schools, giving electrical demonstrations and teaching Indian history.
Mr. Butler was enthusiastic about genealogy, Indian history and collecting Indian artifacts. He bowled for many years in the Chrysler bowling league. His other hobbies included wood carving, building and playing dulcimers, oil painting, horse back riding and boating on the Ohio River with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Turner) Butler; five children, David (wife, Terri) Butler of Spiceland, Debbie (husband, Doug) Searcy of Straughn, Brenda Butler of Indianapolis, Dawn (husband, Roger) Mogg of Spiceland and Jim (wife, Pam) Butler of Milford, Ohio; three stepsons, Russell Reece of Lewisville, Scott (wife, Shirley) Reece of New Castle and Frank (wife, Amy) Reece of Spiceland; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nine siblings, Naomi (husband, Phil) Jackson of Knightstown, Leatha Redmon of Greenfield, John Butler of Knightstown, Carl (wife, Ruth) Butler of Knightstown, Hayden Butler of Knightstown, Charlene (husband, Paul) Jensen of Knightstown, Ray Butler of Knightstown, Shelia (husband, Richard) Rawlins of Charlottesville and Harold (wife, Janet) Butler of Knightstown; four sisters-in-law, Sarah Brown of Spiceland, Gloria Butler of Knightstown, Zora Edick of Indianapolis and Libby Brooks of Ohio; three brothers-in-law, Ed (wife, Chris) Marlow and Larry Marlow, both of Arizona, and Steve (wife, Anna) Bell of Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Marie Bell; two brothers, Arnold Butler and Leon Butler; a stepson, Tracy Reece; a great-grandchild; his mother-in-law, Mildred Marlow; three sisters-in-law, Kay Butler, Lesa Butler and Violet Butler; and a brother-in-law, Eddie Redmon.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Sid Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the funeral home.

James R. Gosser
Nov. 22, 1942 – June 2, 2009
James R. Gosser, 66, of rural Shirley, died at his home on June 2.
He was born Nov. 22, 1942, in Russell County, Ky., a son of the late Alver Ollis and Cloda (Adkins) Gosser.
Mr. Gosser retired from General Motors in 1999 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Shirley Masonic Lodge 531 and Wilkinson Church of Christ. He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and other family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a son, James (wife, Amy) Gosser of Yorktown; three daughters, Shari (husband, Ted) Sweeney of Indianapolis, Jama (husband, Jason) Bowen of Greenfield and Jenny (husband, Coley) McCutcheon of Muncie; six grandchildren, Jacob, Hagan, Nicole, Hailey, Alex and Grant; a brother, Raleigh Gosser; three sisters, Kay Dunigan, Jen Dickerson and Gayla McGraw; his mother-in-law, Louise Sitton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Max Gosser.
Funeral services were June 8 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Mark Dill officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation, as well as Masonic services, were June 7 at the funeral home.

Charles W. “Chuck” Ream
Jan. 26, 1963 – June 5, 2009
Charles W. “Chuck” Ream, 46, of New Castle, died June 5 at his home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1963, in Findley, Ohio, a son of Walter and Joan (Lutz) Ream.
Mr. Ream was a retired auto mechanic, a member of the National Rifle Association, an avid outdoorsman and a proud father and grandfather.
Survivors include his parents, Walter and Joan Ream of Greenfield; three sons, David (wife, Andrea) Ream, Nathan Ream and Wesley Ream, all of New Castle; a daughter, Chrissy Ream of Anderson; a brother, Walter Jay Ream Jr. of Greenfield; five sisters, Shirlee (husband, Rodney) Lahuis of Grand Rapids, Mich., Laura (husband, Mike) Shively of Shelbyville, Deborah (husband, Dave) Ross of Greenfield, Sheila (husband, Dennis) Land of Greenfield and Sarah (husband, Jerry) Brain of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Chad Lahuis and his grandparents.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Gary Sickel officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation is June 10 from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lucille S. Farmer
July 26, 1924 – June 7, 2009
Lucille S. Farmer, 84, of rural Shirley, died June 7 at Cumberland Point Nursing Home in West Lafayette.
She was born July 26, 1924, in Grinnell, Iowa, a daughter of the late Pierce and Verta (Chriswell) Miller.
Mrs. Farmer was a member of Kennard Christian Church, Willing Workers of the Church, Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #492, the Locust Grove Club and the Alpha Club.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff Farmer of Lafayette and Jim Farmer of Anderson; one grandson, Drew Farmer of Greenwood; a daughter-in-law, Candi Farmer of Shirley; two step-grandchildren, Pat and Jennifer Farmer; a brother, David (wife, Deloris) Miller; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Farmer; a stepson, Robert A. Farmer II; and four brothers, Lawrence Miller, Earl Miller, Howard Miller and Lyle Miller.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the funeral home.

Charles E. Millis
July 24, 1932 – June 7, 2009
Charles E. Millis, 76, of Kennard, died June 7 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.
He was born July 24, 1932, in Greensboro, a son of the late Ervin and Esther (Thomas) Millis.
Mr. Millis was a transformer inspector at Westinghouse in Muncie for over 15 years. He retired from the Charles A. Beard Memorial School Corporation maintenance department and worked as a superintendent at the Kennard waste water treatment plant. A member of Kennard Baptist Church, Mr. Millis also belonged to the Kennard Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, serving as chief for two years.
Survivors include his wife, Sue (Neal) Millis; four sons, Richard Lynn Millis, Christopher (wife, Heather) Millis, Bruce (wife, Amy) Bowling and Jeff Bowling; two daughters, Lesa Ann Millis-Beckham and Lisa (husband, Drew) Schneider; nine grandchildren, Marshall Scott Lyons, Landon and Cal Bowling, Alex and Zach Millis, Brooke and Erin Schneider, Mollie Johnson and Kelsey Bowling; and two great-granddaughters, Kylee Purcell and Ella Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Marc Millis; a sister, Thelma Nelson; and three brothers, Richard, Carl and Fredrick Millis.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Revs. Dillard Cole and Mike Price officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Garden in New Castle. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the funeral home.

Peggy Ann Stephens

Peggy Ann Stephens, 62, of Carthage, died May 29 at her home.
She was born Jan. 4, 1947, in Greenfield, a daughter of the Lois (Bunch) Smith and the late Fred Smith.
Mrs. Stephens was a member of Faith Chapel Independent Baptist Church in Knightstown. She enjoyed camping, fishing and was known as an excellent cook. Mrs. Stephens enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and the rest of her family.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Donnie Stephens; six children, Robert Stephens of Carthage, Tim (wife, Stacey) Stephens of Carthage, Chuck (wife, Heather) Stephens of Carthage, Teresa (husband, Dan) Cullison of Carthage, Dawn (husband, Nathan) Sanders of Carthage and and Kimberly (husband, Doug) Jett of Shelbyville; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her mother, Lois Smith of Knightstown; seven siblings, James (wife, Evelyn) Smith of Whiteland, Mary Jones of Knightstown, Carl (wife, Irene) Smith of Indianapolis, Mildred (husband, Jim) White of Spiceland, Herbie (wife, Sharon) Smith of Syracuse, Allen (wife, Sue) Smith of Carthage and David (wife, Patty) Smith of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by four brothers; four sisters; a granddaughter, a grandson; some nephews and a great-niece.
Funeral services were June 1 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation was May 31 at the funeral home.
