Roger Harold Rigney

Roger Harold Rigney of Wilkinson, died May 5 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born April 5, 1946, in New Castle, a son of the late Evelyn (Young) Karpinski.
Mr. Rigney was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam. He was valedictorian of the last graduating class at Wilkinson High School in 1964. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State in 1988. A General Motors employee, he was a skilled tradesman for 35 years and was a member of UAW Local 662 in Anderson. Mr. Rigney was a volunteer fireman at the Wilkinson Volunteer Fire Department and he taught at Anderson Area Vocational-Technical School. He was also a certified emergency medical technician. Mr. Rigney was a member of Shirley Lodge #531 and Cambridge City Christian Church. He was a former member of Wilkinson Church of Christ. Mr. Rigney donated his corneas to give someone else sight.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry; three daughters, Melissa (husband, Mike) Baxter of Waukesha, Wis., Elizabeth (husband, Tracy) Wright of Milton and Amy (husband, Joe) Toomey of Wake Forest, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Rebekah and Matthew Wright, Brock, Dylan and Logan Baxter and John Toomey; a sister, Anita Young of Greenfield; a brother, Jack (wife, Vicky) Friddle of Charlottesville; an aunt, Jane Zirkle of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were May 9 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Tracy Wright officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was May 8 at the funeral home.

Jack D. Spegal
July 27, 1935 – May 5, 2009
Jack D. Spegal, 73, of Morristown, died May 5 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born July 27, 1935, in Fortville, a son of the late James and Mary (Cottrell) Spegal.
Mr. Spegal, who graduated from Moral Township High School, retired from the Chrysler Corporation as a pipe fitter in 1979. He also raised registered polled Hereford cattle was a cattle farmer. Mr. Spegal served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Shiloh Christian Church, Morristown Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and Shelbyville American Legion. He was a past member of the Eagles Lodge, York Rite and the Raleigh Community Club, where he enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis M. Spegal of Morristown; a son, Dale Spegal of Indianapolis; three daughters, Wanda (husband, Bob) Wyatt of Morristown, Norma (husband, Tim) Ward of Shirley and Jane (husband, John) Clifton of Greenfield; a brother, Gail (wife, Shirley) Spegal of Fairland; and six grandchildren, Jackie and Jacob Clifton, Marshall Davis, Sarah and Shelby Wyatt and Timmy Ward.
Funeral services were May 9 at Freeman Family Funeral Home, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, in Shelbyville with Pastor Fred Girdler officiating. Burial followed at Asbury Cemetery. Visitation was May 8 at the funeral home.
Frances “Sarah” Egan
Oct. 13, 1923 – May 11, 2009
Frances “Sarah” Egan, 85, of New Castle, died May 11 at The Waters of New Castle.
She was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Bath County, Ky., a daughter of the late Clinton and Elizabeth (Crouch) Haney.
Mrs. Egan was a member of Knightstown Church of God. She enjoyed spending time with her children and cooking. She also enjoyed singing and gospel music.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Charles of Muncie; two sons, Wayne Egan of Florida and Rick (wife, Linda) Egan of New Castle; a sister, Grace Carter of Chesterfield; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ora Egan; a grandson, Michael Coomer; four brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 2-3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the funeral home.
Mary H. Brown
Jan. 13, 1945 – Apr. 29, 2009
Mary H. Brown, 64, of Anderson, died April 29 at St. John’s Health System in Anderson.
She was born Jan. 13, 1945, a daughter of the late Casey Casebier and Helen L. Osborne, but was raised by her stepfather, Lewis M. Veach and her mother.
Mrs. Brown attended Anderson High School and was later a stay-at-home mother. She also worked at Stoops Express in Daleville. Mrs. Brown was known as an avid reader who enjoyed traveling, music and movies. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Brown; her children, Scott (wife, Bryanna) Brown and Gina; four grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, Sophia and Tanner; her mother, Helen (husband, Glen); and two sisters, Janie Hiday and Susie Battreal.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lewis Veach.
Funeral services were May 2 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home in Anderson. Burial followed at Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton. Visitation was May 2 at the funeral home.

Shirley Lou Orr

Shirley Lou Orr, 73, of Knightstown, died May 4 at her home.
She was born April 4, 1936, in Wells County, a daughter of the late Everett and Lenora (Readbaugh) Johnson.
A Knightstown resident most of her life, Mrs. Orr was a homemaker who belonged to Bethel Presbyterian Church in Knightstown. She was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Women’s Association and Psi Iota Xi sorority in Knightstown.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn Orr of Knightstown; a son, Shawn (wife, Rebecca) Orr of Knightstown; a sister, Sharon (husband, Jerry) Beechler of Bluffton; a granddaughter, Brianna Orr of Knightstown; and two grandsons, Barrett Orr and Everett Orr, both of Knightstown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Henson.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Peter Zinn officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the funeral home.
Don T. Farmer
July 5, 1918 – Apr. 21, 2009
Don T. Farmer, 90, of rural Mechanicsburg, died April 21 at Middletown Nursing and Rehabilitation in Middletown.
He was born July 5, 1918, in Henry County, a son of the late Joseph and Tweeda (Wilkinson) Farmer.
Mr. Farmer lived at the farm where he was born, and was a lifelong farmer. He worked at Wilkinson Implement in Knightstown as a farm equipment mechanic. Mr. Farmer served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a 65-year member and past member of Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge #392. Mr. Farmer also belonged to Middletown Eastern Star #100, Middletown Chapter of the R.A.M. #143 and Knightstown American Legion Post 152.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (husband, David) Province of Middletown and Karen (husband, Bill) Griffin of Shirley; three grandchildren, Stephanie (husband, Bill) Lantz of Middletown, Cindy (husband, Scott) Jacobs of Shirley and Doug (wife, Renee) Griffin of Cumming, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Geraldine (Ebbert) Farmer; two brothers, Maurice Farmer and Bob Farmer; and four sisters, Mildred Highmiller, Nell Riggs, Edith McIntyre and Jeanette Brown.
Funeral services were April 24 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Jenny Charles and Bill Lantz officiating. Visitation was April 24 at the funeral home. Burial followed at Mechanicsburg Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Masonic services were conducted by Mechanicsburg Masonic Lodge #392.
Fred M. Magee, Jr.
Sep. 3, 1933 – Apr. 24, 2009
Fred M. Magee, Jr., of Indianapolis, died April 24.
He was born Sept. 3, 1933, in Rush County, a son of the late Fredrick M. Magee, Sr., and Flora (Howard) Magee.
Mr. Magee retired from Navistar, where he worked as an assembler. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include four sons, Bill, Brent, Bryan and Baron Magee; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jerry Strong, Gloria Plank and Lou Magee; and a brother, Richard Magee.
Funeral services were April 28 at Legacy Funeral Center, Memorial Park, in Indianapolis. Visitation was April 27 at the funeral home.
