John “J.C.” Drysdale

John “J.C.” Drysdale, 85, of Kennard, died January 21 at his home.
He was born May 28, 1923, in Kennard, a son of the late Charles and Mary (O’Dell) Drysdale.
Mr. Drysdale retired from Delco Remy in Anderson after 33 years of service. He also worked at Mt. Lawn Speedway, earning honors as Mt. Lawn’s longest-term employee. He worked the speedway gate for 60 years. Mr. Drysdale enjoyed gardening, sports and racing at Mt. Lawn. A member of Kennard Christian Church, he also belonged to the American Legion, VFW and Eagles Lodge. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Drysdale was a sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (Kern) Drysdale; five children, Cindy Sweigart of New Castle, Jeff Drysdale of Atlanta, Ga., Becky Drysdale of Kennard, Dan (wife, Teri) Drysdale of Kennard and Mary Beth (husband, Gary) Pribble of Kennard; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma (husband, Steve) Meikamp of Kennard; and a brother-in-law, Roger Ray of Kennard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Funeral services were January 24 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Marion McFarland officiating. Military graveside rites were conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was January 24 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 152 or the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Lionel “Bill” Leduc
Aug. 5, 1927 – Jan. 20, 2009
Lionel “Bill” Leduc, 81, of New Castle, died January 20 at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, Fla.
He was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Milan, Mich., a son of the late Albert and Marguerite (Overman) Leduc.
Mr. Leduc was a longtime New Castle resident who vacationed in Ruskin, Fla. He retired from Delco Remy in Anderson in 1986 after 35 years of service as a tool and die maker. He was a member of New Castle Masonic Lodge #91. He also worked as a machinist for Howard Bow. Mr. Leduc was a U.S. Army veteran who was honorably discharged in 1947. He served as a pilot in the 72nd Army Air Force. He received the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After the war, Mr. Leduc joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1950.
Survivors include two sons, Alan (wife, Brenda) Leduc of New Castle and Ralph (wife, Teresa) Leduc of Vanceburg, Ky.; two daughters, Cynthia Leduc of Galveston and Cheryl Ping of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Sitton of Shirley; a stepsister, Barbara Hoover of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Brown) Leduc; his stepfather, Toby Overman; a brother, Albert Leduc; a sister, Jeanette Lazenby; and a stepbrother, Bud Overman.
Funeral services were January 24 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in New Castle. Visitation was January 23 at the funeral home.
Tambra E. Cleek Marcum
March 2, 1960 – Jan. 17, 2009
Tambra E. (Hamilton) Cleek Marcum, 48, of Knightstown, died January 17.
She was born March 2, 1960, in Rushville, a daughter of Donald Hamilton and Faye Chandler.
Ms. Marcum was a 1978 Knightstown High School graduate who later graduated from Michael’s Beauty Academy in New Castle. She was a hairdresser for over 25 years. She enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. Ms. Marcum was known as a generous person and one would help others in need.
Survivors include her daughter, Lindsay Cleek of Indianapolis; two sisters, Tonya Stearns of Spiceland and Trudy (husband, Michael) Heller of Carthage; two brothers, Tony (wife, Terri) Hamilton and Timothy Hamilton, all of Knightstown; her father and stepmother, Donald and Elizabeth Hamilton of Unionville; her mother and stepfather, Faye and David Chandler of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Treva Hamilton; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services are at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will take place at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22. Visitation is 5 p.m. until time of services on Jan. 21. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tambra E. (Hamilton) Cleek Marcum memorial fund with the envelopes available at the funeral home.
Freda M. Collier
Nov. 9, 1918 – Jan. 17, 2009
Freda M. (Barton) Collier, 90, of Wilkinson, died January 17 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Fountain City, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Ethel Barton.
Mrs. Collier was a 1936 Wilkinson High School graduate. She was a lifelong homemaker and mother. She retired from the Hancock County Auditor’s Office and was member of Wilkinson Church of Christ, as well as the Lilac Literary Club. Mrs. Collier enjoyed spending time with her family and making her popular chicken-and-noodles dinner. She was known as someone who kept her home open to family and friends.
Survivors include four sons, Theron (wife, Kathy) Collier of Brea, Cal., Charles (wife, Jessie) Collier of Wilkinson, Donald (wife, Lee) Collier of Indianapolis and Philip (wife, Karen) Collier of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Phyllis (husband, William) Vest of Wilkinson; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, James Barton of Nashville, Tenn., and Richard Barton of Beech Grove, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Collier; two sisters; and eight brothers.
Funeral services were January 21 at Wilkinson Church of Christ with Herman Lippert officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with James Barton officiating. Visitation was January 20 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Memorial donations may be made to Wilkinson Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.
Justin Ryan Steinwachs
April 13, 1984 – Jan. 17, 2009
Justin Ryan Steinwachs, 24, of Elwood, formerly of Carthage, died January 17 in Elwood.
He was born April 13, 1984, in Henry County, a son of Lindsey and Darlene Steinwachs.
Mr. Steinwachs was a 2002 Knightstown High School graduate. He worked as a welder in Frankton. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, hunting, fishing, racing cars, working on cars and spending time with his daughter.
Survivors include his parents; his wife, Lorenda Steinwachs of Elwood; a daughter, Victoria Steinwachs of Elwood; two stepdaughters, Angie and Ashley Geiselback of Elwood; a stepson, Danny J. Geiselback of Elwood; a brother, Lucas Steinwachs of Carthage; a grandson, Kaisen Bixby; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Derell and Louise Logan of Elwood; paternal grandparents, June Steinwachs of Carthage and William and Joan Steinwachs of Cadiz, Ky.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Betty Dick.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, January 23, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rev. Jack Hannum officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 22, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Victoria Steinwachs trust fund at Citizens State Bank.
Earl Lindell Clark
July 29, 1932 – Feb. 6, 2009
Earl Lindell Clark, 76, of Willow Branch, died February 6 at his home.
He was born July 29, 1932, in Marion, a son of the late Grattan and Marie (Kirkpatrick) Clark.
Mr. Clark was a 1954 Purdue University graduate, earning a degree in agriculture. He served as district director and acting state director of the Farmers Home Administration. He retired in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne (husband, Rob) Hunt of Anderson; two sons, Bradley (wife, Karen) Clark of Tucson, Ariz., and David (wife, Julie) Allen Clark of Willow Branch; six grandchildren, Adam Clark, Andrea Clark, Joshua Clark, Tyler Clark, Sydney Hunt and Kelston Hunt; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Clark and Evan Clark; and a cousin, Ralph Jay Broyles of Summittville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Shaw.
Funeral services were February 11 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was February 10 at the funeral home.
Lois Elaine Millis
Nov. 12, 1952 – Feb. 8, 2009
Lois Elaine Millis, 56, of Wilkinson, died February 8 at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Nov. 12, 1952, in Radford, Va., a daughter of the late Harold Dalton and Effie (Showalter) Dalton.
Mrs. Millis was an avid volunteer in various organizations, including the Parent Teacher Association. She was known as a loving mother and homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Millis of Wilkinson; a son, David Millis of Wilkinson; a daughter, Jasmine (husband, John) Quiett of Greenfield; a granddaughter, Gwenyvere of Greenfield; two brothers, Lowell (wife, Nina) Dalton of Blacksburg, Va., and Titus (wife, Glenda) Dalton of Christiansburg, Va.; a niece; and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her father.
