Roberta Janelle Coomer, 56, of Greenfield, died December 21 at Regency Place in Greenfield.
She was born Jan. 9, 1952, in Hancock County, a daughter of Robert (wife, Gracie) Wisehart of Knightstown and Mary Ruth (McMasters) Brinkman of Greenfield.
Ms. Coomer was a member of the Greenfield Veterans of Foreign Wars. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her dogs and cats.
Survivors include a son, Dion (wife, Donna) Coomer of Kennard; a daughter, Jennifer (husband, Pooh) Coomer of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Zacharie, Casie and Nevaeh; two sisters, Jane (husband, Bob) Sparks of Kennard and Phyllis (husband, Dwight) Addison of Greenfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson.
Rev. Marvin L. Hughes
Sept. 10, 1934 – Dec. 22, 2008
Rev. Marvin L. Hughes, 74, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Knightstown, died December 22 at Deaconess Hospital.
He was born Sept. 10, 1934, in Jennings County, a son of the late Sherman W. and Elsie (Allee) Hughes.
Mr. Hughes attended Knightstown schools and was a 1952 KHS graduate. He later earned a bachelors degree from Frankfort Pilgrims College. He served churches in Otwell, French Lick, Shelbyville, and at Forest Hills Wesleyan church in Evansville. Mr. Hughes served as the Wesleyan Church’s district superintendent for southern Indiana. He also served as a trustee for Indiana Wesleyan University for 19 years. He retired and served as pastor at Ft. Branch Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Hughes of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Jewell (husband, Dr. Gene) Flick of Evansville, Acacia (husband, Mike) Peak of Evansville; Marlissa (husband, Michael) Stauffer of Hillard, Ohio, and Jennifer (husband, Darrin) Eaton of Evansville; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Flick, Amanda Flick, Alexander Flick, Clayton Flick, Allee Peak, Olivia Stauffer, Madison Eaton, Abbyanna Eaton, Emma Eaton, Ellie Eaton and Judah Eaton; and a brother, Melvin W. Hughes of Knightstown.
Funeral services were December 27 at Forest Hills Wesleyan Church with Dr. Earle Wilson and Rev. William Oden officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery. Boone Funeral Home in Evansville.
Lila E. McRoberts
Aug. 10, 1914 – Dec. 27, 2008
Lila E. McRoberts, 94, of Knightstown, died December 27 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle.
She was born Aug. 10, 1914, in Golf, Kansas, a daughter of the late Ed and Maude (Jones) Plank.
Mrs. McRoberts worked at a canning factory, bakery and grade school in Knightstown. She retired from Western Electric in Indianapolis. A longtime active member of Ogden United Methodist Church, she sang in the church choir. Mrs. McRoberts enjoyed quilting, crocheting, flowers, gardening and being outdoors.
Survivors include a son, Ed (wife, Ann Marie) McRoberts of New Castle; three daughters, Erma (husband, Ronald) Elliott and Peggy (husband, Pete) Williams, all of Knightstown, and Bonnie (husband, Harold) Bailey of Niles, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosie Roller of Springfield, Ill., and Ileta McDonald of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest McRoberts; a son, Earnest McRoberts, Jr.; a brother, Carl Plank; and two sisters, Faye Brooks and Ruby Nicholas.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Carolyn Stoten officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation was December 30 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ogden United Methodist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Judith A. Richmond
May 6, 1935 – Dec. 28, 2008
Judith A. Richmond, 73, of Carthage, died December 28.
She was born May 6, 1935, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Hugh Martin and Hazel Marie (Bramel) Roberts.
Mrs. Richmond was an active member of Raysville Friends Church. She retired from the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Richmond of Carthage; two daughters, Lisa (husband, Paul) Christenson of Knightstown and Tena (husband, Butch) Morez of Fortville; two grandchildren, Jared (wife, Stacy) Buckley of Greenfield and Katie Morez of Fortville; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Dexter Buckley of Greenfield; a sister, Beth (husband, John) Goble of Knightstown; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Louis Morez.
Funeral services were December 31 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Pastor Michael Sherman officiating. Burial followed at Walnut Ridge Cemetery near Carthage. Visitation was December 30 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Raysville Friends Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Wallace I. Graham
Aug. 13, 1928 – Dec. 28, 2008
Wallace I. “Wally” Graham, 80, of Wilkinson, died December 28 at his home.
He was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Henry County, a son of the late Clayton and Annabel Graham.
Mr. Graham retired from Delco Remy in Anderson. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War. A member of Wilkinson Church of Christ, he was an avid fisherman and outdoors. He enjoyed mowing his lawn.
Survivors include a son, Gary Graham of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Chris (wife, Mary) Graham of Indianapolis, Ashley (husband, Matt) Decker of Wilkinson, Rebekah Graham of Lafayette, Aaron Graham of Shirley and Michael Graham of Beaufort, S.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Graham; a son, Greg Graham; and two brothers, Jack and Sherman Graham.
Funeral services were December 31 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Russ Lutes officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was December 30 at the funeral home.
Sarah Elizabeth Vollmer
June 15, 1915 – Jan. 6, 2009
Sarah Elizabeth Vollmer, 93, of Crossville, Tenn., formerly of Knightstown, died January 6.
She was born June 15, 1915, in Sabetha, Kan., a daughter of the late Gottlieb and Lucinda (Minger) Brunner.
Mrs. Vollmer owned a nursing home. She was a member of Homestead United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Lee Jones of Crossville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Vollmer.
Funeral services were January 11 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Teresa Ann Meyers
July 31, 1965 – Jan. 7, 2009
Teresa Ann Meyers, 43, of Wheatfield, formerly of Knightstown, died January 7.
She was born July 31, 1965, in Decatur, a daughter of the late Richard and Vera (Harvey) Meyers.
Miss Meyers was employed as a cook and assisted with the recycling unit in Wheatfield. She was a resident at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home from 1973-1984. She was a 1984 Morton Memorial High School graduate.
Survivors include two children, Jazmye and Gavin Mehay of Wheatfield; and four sisters, Arlene Mendoza, Betty Owens, Billy Jo Meyers of Knightstown and Angie Moore, also of Knightstown.
Funeral services were January 10 at Boersma Funeral Home in Wheatfield with Pastor Roger Sculley officiating. Visitation was January 10 at the funeral home. Cremation followed.
