Hollis E. Lewman

Hollis E. Lewman, 74, of Markleville, died December 12 at his home.
He was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Raysville, a son of the late Samuel and Virgie (Planck) Lewman.
Mr. Lewman retired from Guide Lamp in Anderson in 1994. He was a member of Shirley Christian Church and he graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1952. Mr. Lewman was an avid golfer, water skier, camper and gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille (Zornes) Lewman of Markleville; a daughter, Robin (husband, Mark) Kridler of Anderson; three grandchildren, Melissa Toombs, Levi Mosby and Darreck Pierce; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Mosby and Nolan Paven; two sisters, Mildred Stillwell of New Castle and Wanda Walker of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Lewman; four brothers, Curtis, Ralph, Joe and David Lewman; and a sister, Ruth Hewson.
Funeral services were December 16 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Gary Sickle officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was December 15 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Hospital Children’s Foundation.
Deloris E. Calvert
Oct. 7, 1921 – Dec. 12, 2008
Deloris E. (Harris) Calvert, 87, of Wilkinson, died December 12 at her home.
She was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Douglas, Kan., a daughter of the late Omer and Mable Harris.
Mrs. Calvert was a 1939 Anderson High School graduate. She worked at Delco Remy in Anderson during World War II. She also worked at the Wilkinson Post Office from 1978-1990. She was a member of Wilkinson Church of Christ and was a former secretary for the Wilkinson Brotherhood and Sisterhood. She lived in Wilkinson for 60 years.
Survivors include four children, Mike (wife, Connie) Calvert of Markleville, Lou (wife, Cecilia) Calvert of Pendleton, David Calvert of Middletown and Debi (husband, Tony) Renfro of Wilkinson; a brother, Don (wife, Gale) Harris of Leesburg; a sister-in-law, Nora Harris; six grandchildren, Brad and Steve Calvert of Middletown, Mark (wife, Nicole) Calvert of Fishers, Lisa (husband, Jason) George of Pendleton, Brandon of New Castle, Jessica Renfro of Morristown; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; a brother, Harold Harris; and two sisters, Madeline Hamm and Barbara Dew. Funeral services were December 17 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Russ Lutes officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation was December 16 at the funeral home.
William Edward Lee
Nov. 20, 1942 – Dec. 13, 2008
William Edward Lee, 66, of Knightstown, died December 13 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born Nov. 20, 1942, in Newberry, a son of the late Parmer and Berniece (Shafer) Lee.
Mr. Lee was a 1960 Switz City Central High School graduate. He later attended Veteran’s Ag School. Mr. Lee served in the U.S. Army’s Third Armored Division in 1963-64 in Germany. He was employed by the Indiana Department of Transportation for 18 years. A full-time farmer, he was also employed as a custodian at Knightstown United Methodist Church for seven years. Mr. Lee was a member of Knightstown United Methodist Church and Knightstown American Legion Post 152. He was a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association and Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Diana Mae (Stanley) Lee of Knightstown; two daughters, Sherri (husband, Scott) Prunty of Beaverdam, Va., and Terri (husband, Gary) Delp of Battle Ground; three sisters, Jeanette Devine of Oden, Shirley (husband, Bill) Wade of Washington and Sharon (husband, Mike) Akles of Shoals; two grandchildren, Seth Prunty and Sarah Prunty; two step-grandchildren, Robby (wife, Katie) Delp and Kimberly Delp; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Edward Lee; and a sister, Nancy Devine.
Funeral services were December 17 at Knightstown United Methodist Church with Pastor Ken Wells officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Military graveside rites were conducted by Knightstown American Legion Post 152. Visitation was December 16 at Knightstown United Methodist Church. Arrangements were handled by Stillinger Family Funeral Home in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Matthew E. Amy Shields Mann
Oct. 15, 1953 – Dec. 17, 2008
Amy Shields Mann, 55, of Waco, Tex., formerly of Knightstown, died December 13.
She was born Oct. 15, 1953, in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Jack and Nancy Shields.
She attended high school in Madrid, Spain, and later graduated from DePauw University with a degree in Spanish. She spent her high school and college years traveling throughout Europe. After college, Mrs. Mann worked at M.D. Anderson.
She lost her eyesight due to juvenile diabetes when she was 30. In spite of three kidney transplants, Mrs. Mann was still involved in a variety of volunteer endeavors, including Junior League of Waco. She received that group’s Excellence in Volunteerism Award in 1999. She also sang in the Junior League’s musical therapy group since 1991. She was chosen to carry the Olympic torch in Austin on its journey to Athens, Greece, in 2004.
Mrs. Mann was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and received the Theta of the Year award. She served as the advisory board chairman for Epsilon Epsilon chapter at Baylor University. As a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, she served on the vestry and was president of the Episcopal Church Women and St. Alban’s Guild. Mrs. Mann also served on the board of Lighthouse for the Blind and was a finalist for the Legacy Award, which recognizes citizens who have made outstanding contributions to their communities.
Additionally, Mrs. Mann volunteered at Sul Ross Elementary School in Waco. She taught bilingual second graders to read. She also volunteered at Provident Heights Elementary and was a member of the H.O.T. Independent Living Center and the Organ Transplant Support Group. Mrs. Mann enjoyed cooking and entertaining guests and was an organ and tissue donor.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Mann of Waco; her mother-in-law, Laura Lou Mann; her father-in-law, George (wife, Jeanne) Mann; a sister, Nina (husband, Sam) Koelpin of Chicago; two brothers, Ewing Shields of Indianapolis and Linsey Shields of Portland, Oregon; three nieces, Nancy Knoelpflein, Anna Bouchard and Elizabeth Bertrand; three nephews, Chip, Chase and Trip Shields; two brothers-in-law, George and David Mann; nieces-in-law, Michelle Bryant and Leah, Brianna and Abby Mann; and a nephew-in-law, Braz Mann of Waco.
Betty (True) Russell
Nov. 27, 1929 – Dec. 12, 2008
Betty Phyllis (True) Russell, 79, of Georgetown, Ky., died December 12.
She was born Nov. 27, 1929 in Casey County, Ky., a daughter of the late Aaron and Lula (Statom) True.
Mrs. Russell was a homemaker and a member of Hustonville (Ky.) Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Sue Robertson of Georgetown and Judy (husband, Dennis) Melear of Fisherville, Ky.; a brother, James True of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Ida Knott of Knightstown and Barbara Jean DeWees of Eaton; three grandchildren, Kerry Robertson, Suzanne (husband, Chris) Bridwell and Dr. Jason (wife, Dawn) Melear; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were December 15 at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, Ky., with Brother Eddie Reynolds officiating. Burial followed in Hustonville Cemetery.
Lucille Elizabeth Brock
March 5, 1924 – Dec. 17, 2008
Lucille Elizabeth Brock, 84, of Indianapolis, died December 17.
She was born March 5, 1924, in Shreveport, La.
Mrs. Brock was a Maryville (Tenn.) College graduate. She held a masters degree in church social work and was a certified Christian educator. She worked for 10 years at Eli Lilly as a microbiologist. She later served as director of education at 2nd Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, of which she was also a member. Additionally, Mrs. Brock was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret R. Brock of Indianapolis; a brother, William (wife, Mary Ann) Sitler of Knightstown; and a sister, Mary Kay Eason of Spring Valley, Cal.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Funeral services were December 20 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown. Visitation was December 20 at the funeral home. Burial took place at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church in Knightstown.
Mary Alice Stewart
May 20, 1919 – Dec. 21, 2008
Mary Alice Stewart, 89, of Greenfield, formerly of Shirley, died December 21 at Golden Living Center in Greenfield.
She was born May 20, 1919, in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Ora and Freda Clutter.
Mrs. Stewart retired as postmaster of the Shirley post office in 1983. She was a member of Shirley Christian Church, Shirley Order of the Eastern Star #492 and the Shirley Alpha Club. An avid Indiana Pacers fan, she was active in a variety of Shirley civic activities and festivals.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Stewart of Shirley; a daughter, Peggy Stewart of Philadelphia, Penn.; a grandson, Brannan (wife, Jennifer) Stewart of Pendelton; a great-granddaughter, McKenna Stewart; and two nieces.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; a daughter, Tanya Stewart; a brother, Cary Clutter; and a nephew, Richard Clutter.
Funeral services were December 24 at Condo & Son Funeral Home with Gary Sickle officiating. Burial followed at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Visitation was December 23 at the funeral home. Eastern Star serves were December 23. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
