Kye Wentz Jr.

December 27, 1989 – December 7, 2011

Kye Wentz Jr., 21, of Knightstown, died Dec. 7 at St. John’s Hospital in Anderson.

He was born Dec. 27, 1989, in Baltimore, Md., a son of Kye and Cristie Wentz of Knightstown.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge #744 of Daleville.

Survivors include his parents; two brothers, Paul and Michael Wentz of Knightstown; two sisters, Jenifer and Rachal Wentz of Knightstown; a son, Grayson Wentz of Anderson; grandparents Terry and Vici Schlabach of Wilkinson, Linda Wentz and Gary Tetrault of Anderson and Carol Wentz of Nappanee; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kye Wentz III; and a daughter, Remington Michael Wentz.

Visitation and funeral services were Dec. 12 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Jared Tyler officiating.

Contributions, to defray the cost of funeral expenses, may be made in Mr. Wentz’s name to After The Flowers at www.aftertheflowers.org.

Doris M. Vaughn

September 6, 1932 – December 5, 2011

Doris M. Vaughn, 79, of Shirley, died Dec. 5 at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle.

She was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Russell County, Ky., a daughter of the late Benjamin George and Zepha (Johnson) Polston. Mrs. Vaughn was a homemaker, a member of Grant City Wesleyan Church and the Homemaker’s Club. She was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed sewing.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Edward (wife, Ava) Vaughn of Bowling Green, Ky. and Gary Duane (wife, Sheryl) Vaughn of Shirley; daughter Stella Marie (husband, Jim) Anderson of Carthage; two sisters, Emma Tompkins of Wilkinson and Louise McRoberts of Shirley; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Vaughn; two sisters, Betty June Polston and Mildred Anderson; a brother, Benjamin Polston; and a great-granddaughter, Jordyn Vaughn.

Visitation was Dec. 9 and funeral services were Dec. 10 at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Rev. Raymond Hood officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.

Richard Whitfield Sr.

Circa 1937 - November 21, 2011

Richard "Dick" Whitfield Sr., 74, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Carthage, died Nov. 21.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Eileen; three sons, Dennis, Darrell and Richard Jr., all of Florida; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, DeWayne Whitfield of Abbesville, S.C.; and four sisters, Yvonne Mach of Bartow, Fla., Charlene Jones of Illinois; Wanda Gulley of Charlottesville and Rose McCoy of Kentucky.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.

Arrangements were handled by Cremation Services of Mid Florida.

Dale R. Miller

February 10, 1941 - December 18, 2011

Dale R. Miller, 70, of Howe, died Dec. 18 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

He was born Feb. 10, 1941, in Henry County, a son of the late Cassell and Ruth (Manning) Miller.

Mr. Miller was a printer at The Indianapolis Star for several years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of Knightstown American Legion Post 152 and a printers union.

Survivors include two daughters, Kim (husband, Scott) Ward of Pendleton and Lynne (husband, John) Cutshaw of Washougal, Wash.; two grandchildren, Jeremy Ward of Muncie and Tara Ward of Pendleton; and one great-grandchild, Jamie Hood of Pendleton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna J. (Welsh) Miller.

Funeral services and visitation are noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with full military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 152.

Mary E. Gatewood

May 16, 1919 – December 18, 2011

Mary E. Gatewood, 92, of Carthage, died Dec. 18 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

She was born May 16, 1919, in Sullivan County, a daughter of the late Floyd Thomas Bledsoe and Edith Blanch (Carr) Bledsoe.

Mrs. Gatewood was a member of East Street Christian Church in Carthage, Carthage Garden Club, Eastern Star, and the Rush County Republican Central Committee. She was also precinct committee person in Ripley Township for many years.

Survivors include her husband, William O. Gatewood of Carthage; one son, Michael H. (wife, Barbara) Joseph of Houston, Texas; one sister, Martha Marlow of Dugger; and one grandson, Scott W. Joseph of Houston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Visitation was Dec. 20 and funeral services were Dec. 21 at Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Danid Bonne and Rev. Jim Lawer officiating. Burial followed at Arlington East Hill Cemetery.

Miriam E. Thompson

September 27, 1921 – December 18, 2011

Miriam E. Thompson, 90, died Dec. 18 at Golden Living Center-Brandywine in Greenfield.

She was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Ralph B. and Maggie E. (Tice) Rhodes. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker most of her life.

She was active with her husband in Boy Scouts and was a Sunday School teacher. She was employed by Mayhill Publishing Company in Knightstown.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Thompson of Knightstown; daughters Rose Ann Chew of Knightstown and Linda Priest of Rushville; sons Joe Bruce Thompson of Robinson, Ill. and Timothy E. Thompson of Crawfordsville; brothers Richard Rhodes of Port Charlotte, Fla. and Phillip Rhodes of Noblesville; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Moorehouse; and her brothers, Carl, Max and Ennis Rhodes.

Visitation is from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Dec. 21 at Wilkinson Church of Christ with Russ Lutes officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Elizabeth Miller Corbett

September 13, 1975 – December 17, 2011

Elizabeth "Liz" Miller Corbett, 38, of Knightstown, died Dec. 17 at her residence.

She was born Sept. 13, 1975, in New Castle, a daughter of Michael Lee Miller and Gretchen (Knott) Miller.

A lifelong resident of Knightstown, she was a 1991 graduate of Knightstown High School, where she was a cheerleader and played softball. She was also a 1993 graduate of Indiana Business College. She had worked at Nel Net in Indianapolis and IAF in Greenfield. She was presently the administrative secretary for th Indiana Department of Transportation in Greenfield. Mrs. Corbett enjoyed playing in the Knightstown Adult Softball League and was also very active in Knightstown Optimist Little League. She was a member of First Christian Church in Knightstown and she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jasson D. Corbett of Knightstown; three sons, Jasson D. Corbett II, Dane Michael Corbett and Brock Xander Corbett, all of Knightstown; her parents, Billy and Gretchen (Knott) Back of Knightstown; five siblings, Michael Lee (wife, Deanna) Miller II of Knightstown, Maggie Miller Frisbie of Knightstown, Cheryl Back of Washington state, and Christopher W. Back and Cody Ryan Back, both of Knightstown; her in-laws, Richard and Katherine Raymer of Middletown; her brothers-in-law, Craig (wife, Michelle) Corbett of Middletown, Andrew (wife, Ashley) Corbett of Anderson and Joshua Corbett of Indianapolis; her paternal grandmother, June Back of Knightstown; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Lee Miller; her maternal grandparents, Francis and Margaret Knott; her paternal grandfather, Haskell Back; and her paternal grandparents, Perry and Marguerite Miller.

Visitation is Dec. 22 from 3-8 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Funeral services are Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. at Hinsey-Brown with Richard Thayer and Susan Boatright officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Corbett Family Fund, c/o State Farm Bank, 18 E. Main St., Knightstown, IN 46148.
