Betty J. (Conner) Eddy

Betty J. (Conner) Eddy, 77, died Nov. 4 at Community North Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 26, 1934, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Howard and Idella (Jones) Conner.
A 1952 graduate of Knightstown High School, Mrs. Eddy worked for Citizens National Bank for over 20 years before retiring. She was a 50-year member of Knightstown United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading and playing bridge.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Eddy of Greenfield; children Sue (husband, George) Barber of Mt. Summit, Thomas Eddy III of Greenfield and Nancy (husband, Patrick) Dillon of Indianapolis; a sister, Barbara (husband, John) Tice of Knightstown; many grandchildren; and twin great-granddaughters.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Goss.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Knightstown United Methodist Church Memorial Fund at 27 S. Jefferson St., Knightstown, IN 46148. Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield is in charge of arrangements.
Roger Glenn Stevens
October 21, 1945 – November 3, 2011
Roger Glenn Stevens, 66, of Lewisville, died Nov. 3 at his home.
He was born in New Castle on Oct. 21, 1945, a son of the late Estell and Electia Edna (Smith) Stevens.
Mr. Stevens lived most of his life in the Lewisville community. He had worked at M & D in Cambridge City and Philco in Connersville before retiring in 1993 from New Castle Chrysler Corporation after 26 years of service. He enjoyed playing guitar and was an avid horseman and member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Single Action Shooting Society and Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, and qualified twice for the CMSA world finalist competition, held in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, the former Mickey R. Howe; one daughter, Molly (husband, Mark) Hawes, and one son, Roger Estell Stevens, both of Greenville, Ohio; two granddaughters, Bailey McFall and Hunter Stevens; two grandsons, Lucien and Caleb Stevens; one great-grandson, Briley McFall; three siblings, Everett "Shady" Stevens of New Castle, Donald Stevens of Spiceland and Shirley Newton of Greenfield; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Berniece Nash and Evelyn Hall, and a brother, Phillip Stevens. Visitation was Nov. 6 and funeral services were Nov. 7 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville.
Mary Catherine Avery
May 10, 1928 – November 2, 2011
Mary Catherine Avery, 83, of Indianapolis, died Nov. 2.
She was born May 10, 1928, in Knightstown, a daughter of the late Frank and Jane (Allen) Mauck.
After graduating from Knightstown High School, Ms. Avery worked as a doctor’s private secretary in Phoenix for 10 years, retiring in 1975. She moved to Indianapolis in 1980.
Survivors include three daughters, Francis Mauck of Indianapolis, Norma Jo Graham of Virginia Beach, Va., and Amanda Jane (husband, Tom) Jones of California, Md.; one son, John Gwinn of Indianapolis; a sister, Betty Maxwell of Knightstown; and 10 grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Gwinn; a son, Billy Gwinn; a sister, Tippy Richey, formerly of Knightstown; and a brother, Tom Mauck, formerly of Scottsdale, Ariz. A.R.N.
Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia Violet (Stephens) Stacey
January 26, 1926 – November 2, 2011
Virginia Violet (Stephens) Stacey, 85, of Spiceland, died Nov. 2 at her home.
She was born Jan. 26, 1926, in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Ollie and Faithy (Gilliam) Stephens.
Mrs. Stacey was known as a hard worker, starting as a teenager cooking for field hands and picking tomatoes on her parents’ farm. She worked in several restaurants, including Vi’s Lounge in Knightstown, and was known as a good cook. She worked 15 years at Western Electric, enjoyed gardening and canning, and was known as a loving family member.
Survivors include three daughters, Frieda (husband, James) Lloyd of Spiceland, Lorita Miller of New Castle and Velma (husband, Victor) Gulley of Spiceland; a brother, Bob (wife, Lavon) Stevens of Knightstown; a sister, Lura Stephens of Spiceland; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Holley Stacey; a son, Philip Dale Stacey; three brothers, Junior, Coy and Donnie Stephens; and a sister, Odeline Enix.
Visitation and funeral services were Nov. 6 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Randy Gross officiating. Burial followed in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Christian Broadcasting Network.
Edna V. Chadwick
September 9, 1921 – October 25, 2011
Edna V. Chadwick, 90, of Shirley, died Oct. 25 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle.
She was born Sept. 9, 1921, in Anderson, a daughter of the late Clarence and Opal (Lawson) Trueblood.
She retired from General Motors in 1982 after 29 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Chadwick of Shirley; a son, Daniel Hanson of Middletown; three daughters, Barbara Dalton of Florida, Patricia Dick of New Castle and Diane Ellison of Shirley; a stepson, Scott Chadwick of Winchester; two stepdaughters, Moneta Brown of Bloomington and Melinda Cowan of Knightstown; a brother, Jack Trueblood of Alexandria; a sister, Becky Inglis of Summitville; and 56 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral services were Oct. 29 at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Gary Sickle officiating.
Terry McKain
May 21, 1953 - November 13, 2011
Terry "Mike" McKain, 58, of Indianapolis, died Nov. 13 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
He was born May 21, 1953, in Rushville, a son of Robert and Norma (Parish) McKain.
Mr. McKain grew up in Carthage and graduated from Carthage High School. He later graduated from Purdue University. Mr. McKain taught in Perry Township schools in Indianapolis. He also worked with his family at The Candy Shop in Metamora for several years. An avid fan of Purdue University sports, he was a member of Metamora United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Sherry Chandler of Metamora; a niece; and one nephew.
Funeral services are at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Metamora United Methodist Church with David Bowser officiating.
Betty L. Newkirk
August 14, 1921 - November 15, 2011
Betty L. Newkirk, 90, of Dunreith, died Nov. 15 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Dunreith, a daughter of the late Glen and Marie (Huddleson) McDonald.
Mrs. Newkirk retired from Draper Shade and Screen in Spiceland. She was a member of Dunreith Christian Church, RST Club, Home Economics Club, Rebecca in the Odd Fellows organization, a 50-year member of Spiceland-Lewisville Order of the Eastern Star #463 and past president of the Spiceland American Legion Post Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, James G. (wife, Linda) Newkirk of Knightstown; six grandchildren, James B. Newkirk, Andrea K. Wells, Kelley Sitton, Andrew Newkirk, Brad Frost and Rob Frost; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Newkirk of Spiceland; a brother, Russell McDonald; three sisters, Geraldine Perry, Ruth Pickering and Dorothy Lingerfelt; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Newkirk; a son, David Newkirk; a granddaughter, Allison Newkirk; two brothers, Bob and Max McDonald; and a sister, Gladys Lacy.
Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Randy Gross officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation is Thursday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m. until time of services.
