`Rubye F. Jones

Rubye F. Jones, 84, of Lewisville, died Oct. 21 at Indianapolis Heart Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born Dec. 17, 1926, in New Castle, a daughter of the late Wesley and Anna (Douglas) Todd.
Mrs. Jones attended Straughn High School. A lifelong resident of Henry County, she worked at Knightstown Elementary School in the cafeteria for several years. She previously attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Lewisville. She was known as a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include two children, Rex A. (wife, Brenda) Jones of Lewisville and Joyce (husband, Ronald) Cruse of Glenwood; six grandchildren, James (wife, Holly) Jones of Rushville, Shawn (wife, Jane) Jones of Rushville, Melissa (husband, Mike) Griffin of Carthage, Bill (wife, Heather) Rauthe of Connersville, Dawn (husband, Brad) Broughton of Batesville and Justin (wife, Brittany) Rauthe of Connersville; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Todd of Dublin; a sister, Dorothy Walters of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Jones; a daughter, Janet Buck; a brother, Leon Todd; and a sister, Wilma Meyer.
Visitation and funeral services were Oct. 25 at Hinsey-Brown in Knightstown with Rev. Roby Wood officiating. Burial followed at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown.

Rick A. Hammer
August 26, 1952 – October 20, 2011
Rick A. Hammer, 59, of Hudson, formerly of Shirley, died Oct. 20 in Fort Wayne.
He was born Aug. 26, 1952, in New Castle, a son of Chester and Joann (Smith) Hammer.
Mr. Hammer was a teacher for Prairie Heights School System for 35 years, starting in 1975. He retired after the 2010-11 school year. He worked recently as a part-time teacher at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne. He was very active in the Prairie Heights Athletic Department where he coached basketball, baseball, football and track. He attended Angola Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Joann Hammer of Shirley; a son, Rick A. Hammer of Plainfield, Ill.; two daughters, Laura (husband, Derek) Swanson of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Lindsay (husband, Daniel) Dale of Ashley; two brothers, Richard (wife, Holly) Hammer of Indianapolis and Jeff (wife, Jeannette) Hammer of Indianapolis; three sisters, Teresa (husband, Wendell) Hester of Shirley; Kathy (husband, John) Hancock of Greenwood and Karen (husband, Brian) Jeffries of Greenfield.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at Condo & Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Fred Girdwood officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.

Esther M. Carmichael
October 2, 1927 – October 19, 2011
Esther M. Carmichael, 84, died Oct. 19 at Alternative Care Facility in Henry County.
She was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Spiceland Township, Henry County, a daughter of the late Maurice C. and M. Myrtle (Reece) Magee.
She was raised in Hancock County and attended Kennard High School. Mrs. Carmichael had lived in Spiceland since 1948. She was a homemaker, member of Spiceland Eastern Star and attended Spiceland Friends Church. She was known as a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include two children, Bruce O. (wife, Chris) Carmichael of Knightstown and Barbara R. (husband, Leonard) Caudill of Florence, S.C., five grandchildren, Rena (husband, Dean) Spencer, Rachel (husband, Steve) Procik and Ryan (wife, Jennifer) Caudill, all of South Carolina, Casey (wife, Stephanie) Carmichael and Cara (husband, Ryan) Williams, both of Spiceland; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Magee of Spiceland and Howard Magee of Illinois; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carmichael was preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. Carmichael; one brother, Eldon Magee; one sister, Edna Kemerly; and one great-granddaughter, Allison Procik.
Visitation was Oct. 21 and funeral services were Oct. 22 at Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home in Lewisville with Sid Martin officiating. Burial with graveside services conducted by her grandson, Rev. Ryan Caudill, followed at Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland.
Alice M. Davis
August 18, 1921 - November 1, 2011
Alice M. Davis, 90, of Carthage, died Nov. 1 at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield.
She was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Johnson County, a daughter of the late Charles and Emma Mae (Mason) Pettit.
Mrs. Davis farmed with her husband, Harold, for many years. A homemaker, she was a member of the Carthage Fireman’s Auxiliary and Union Chapel Church in St. Paul. She also attended Fletcher United Methodist Church in Carthage. Mrs. Davis enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, crocheting, dancing and sewing. She was known as a very good cook.
Survivors include six children, Darrel D. (wife, Anne) Davis of Ruskin, Fla., Alvin H. Davis of New Castle, Martha A. West of Greenfield, Carl M. (wife, Phyllis) Davis of Greenfield, Kay (husband, Dahl) Petry of Arlington and Ruth (husband, Jerry) May of Arlington; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold A. Davis; two grandchildren, Larry A. Davis and Stephen M. Petry; and two brothers, Harry Pettit and Richard Mason.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown with Rvs. Roger Campbell and David Bonne officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington East Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the funeral home.

Sherida A. Sutton
April 12, 1950 – October 31, 2011
Sherida A. Sutton, 61, of Shirley, died Oct. 31 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born April 12, 1950, in New Castle, the daughter of Ralph K. and Vera Mae (Milner) Kaufman.
Mrs. Sutton was the office manager for Metals Technology Corp. in Shirley for 30 years, and was a member of Shirley United Methodist Church and a local euchre club.
Survivors include her husband, Vaughn Sutton of Shirley; her mother; sons Jason Sutton of Kennard and Aaron (wife, Kira) Sutton of Rushville; brothers Jerry Kaufman of Shirley and Ken Kaufman of Pittsboro; aunts Dot Kaufman and Glenda Conley of New Castle; uncle Dale Milner of Walton; grandchildren Eva and Isaac Sutton of Connersville, and Ashley, Jacob and Jayden Sutton of Kentucky; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation is Nov. 2 from 4-8 p.m. at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson. Funeral services are Nov. 3 at the funeral home with Rev. Jenny Charles officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.

Thelma A. Rector
October 28, 1918 – October 30, 2011
Thelma A. Rector, 93, of Pendleton, died Oct. 30 at Rawlins House in Pendleton.
She was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Milan, a daughter of the late Charles T. and Hazel (Lowe) Willis.
Ms. Rector retired in 1978 from the Army Finance Center at Fort Harrison. She worked for 10 years for the Internal Revenue Service in Indianapolis and was also a 10-year employee for Sears in Anderson. She attended Emanuel United Methodist Church in Pendleton. Survivors include a son, Joseph Kent Rector of Pendleton; a grandson, Shawn Rector of Anderson; a sister, Edith (husband, Frank) Miller of Crossville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lowell T. Willis.
Visitation and funeral services were Nov. 1 at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Gary Sickle officiating. Burial followed at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Celia Whisler
June 5, 1924 – October 29, 2011
Celia Whisler, 87, of Shirley, died Oct. 29 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
She was born June 5, 1924, in Frankfort, the daughter of the late Manson and Sylvia Shelley.
Mrs. Whisler was a lifelong homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Elliott of Summerfield, Fla.; five grandchildren, Cindy (Whisler) Glisson of Shirley, Brian Wisehart of Kokomo, Tracy (Wisehart) Austin of Shirley, Chad Whisler of Muncie and Bobby Elliott of Summerfield, Fla.; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. "Shorty" Whisler; two sons, Allen and Wayne Whisler; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson with Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation. Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson is in charge of arrangements.
