Opal Fouts
Opal Hall Spencer Fouts, 85, Lanesville, died Monday, Aug. 6, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. A native of Madison, died early last Wednesday morning, Aug. 1, after wrecking his four-wheel all-terrain vehicle near Marengo. Onstott, who was traveling at high speed on Haendiges Road, lost control of his ATV at the intersection of Lower Bacon Road. He left the road and was thrown into a dry creek bed, according to Indiana Conservation Officer Terry Allen. Onstott hit his head on the ground and was pronounced dead at the scene by Crawford County Coroner Steve Arnold at 1:36 a.m. Allen said Onstott had the proper license and registration to drive the ATV on the road but was not wearing safety equipment, including a helmet. Allen said toxicology reports would determine if alcohol was involved. The legality of ATVs on county roadways is up to county commissioners. They are legal in Crawford County. "Considering the (high) number of ATVs we have in the county, the accidents are pretty low," he said. Also responding were the Indiana State Police, Crawford County Sheriff's Dept., Marengo-Liberty Volunteer Fire Dept. and Crawford County Ambulance Service. Onstott was a native of New Albany, Cemetery in Milltown. Brother Morris Larimore officiated. McAdams Mortuary in Paoli handled the arrangements.
