Catherine Engle Conway
Catherine Engle Conway, 76, of Milan, born November 6, 1924 in Perry County, Kentucky the daughter of Silas and Seattle (Ritchie) Holliday.
She married Russell (Dutch) Willis Engle and Robert (RB) Conway, all of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by four sons, Jim Whaley of West Carrollton, Ohio, Kenneth and Jerry Engle both of Milan, Bob Engle of Ary, Kentucky, two brothers, Vernon Holliday of Dillsboro, Herbert Holliday of Moores Hill, 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Conway was a former employee of Cyprus Coal County in Hazard, Kentucky, a member of the Milan American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW of Aurora.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 15 from 6-8 p.m. slow time at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Milan Legion Auxiliary will hold services at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Dearborn County.
Marie Mann
Marie Mann, 50, of Versailles, born February 17, 1951 in Milan the daughter of Estol Ellerman and Dortha Chance Ellerman, both deceased.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Mann and Susannah Mann, both of Versailles and one brother, James Ellerman of Versailles.
Ms. Mann was a 1969 graduate of Milan High School, a graduate of Moorehead State and she received her Masters in Education from Ball State University. She taught elementary school in Holton, Cross Plains and South Ripley. She was a member of Tyson United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 12, 2 p.m. at Bovard Funeral Homes, Versailles, with Rev. Michael Hendrix officiating.
Burial was in the Blair Cemetery near Versailles. Memorials may go to the donor's choice.
Howard "Dutch" Bass
Howard "Dutch" Baas, 92, of Sunman, born October 22, 1909 in Franklin County the son of Oliver and Ida Zimmer Baas, both deceased.
Survivors include one sister, Gertrude Richter of Sunman and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sophia Doerne, Marie Reader, Ann Whitfield, Sadie Graener and Edna Baas and brothers, Ira, Russell, Alvin and Filmore Baas.
Mr. Baas was a retired sheetmetal worker. He was an Army veteran of W.W.II serving in Alaska. He was a member of the VFW Post in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 31, 12-2 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Sunman.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home at 2 p.m. with Judith P. Doll officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Jacob's Cemetery, Blue Creek, with graveside military honors by Kenneth L. Diver Post #77 American Legion of Sunman.

Marilyn E. (Jordan) Kermeen
Marilyn E. (Jordan) Kermeen, 68, of Indianapolis, born March 9, 1933 in Indianapolis the daughter of Robert and Henrietta (Hotopp) Jordan. She married Robert Burns Kermeen on January 22, 1950 in Lafayette and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Rebecca D. Scherer of Fairland, two sons, Barry J. Kermeen of Columbia, KY, William R. Kermeen of Indianapolis, mother, Henrietta (Hotopp) Jordan of Indianapolis, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Jordan.
Mrs. Kermeen was a sales coordinator at Olan Mills in Indianapolis for several years. She and her husband previously owned operated the Friendship Tavern. She was a member of Hansing Park Christian Church and she was also a girl scout leader.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, October 30, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at G.H. Herrmann, Madison Avenue, Funeral Home in Indianapolis.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may go to the St. Francis Hospice or Hansing Park Christian Church.
Luella Adams
Luella Adams, 98, of Shelbyville, born August 10, 1903 in Ripley County the daughter of W.A. Gookins and Arabelle Thackery Gookins, both deceased. She married Charles A. Adams on August 10, 1929 and he preceded her in death on February 7, 1980.
Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn (Mrs. John) Carson of Needham, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Enos Gookins and Ralph Gookins and two sisters, Sarah Gookins and Florence Hull.
Mrs. Adams was a homemaker. She was a former member of the Worthwhile Home Ec Club. She was also a member of the Sandcreek Baptist Church and a former resident of Napoleon.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 29, 2 p.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, Greensburg, with Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating.
Burial was in the Napoleon Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Shelby County Hospice or Sandcreek Baptist Church.
Edith P. Driscoll
Edith P. Driscoll, 84, of Washington, formerly of Dillsboro, born September 5, 1917 in Garrad, KY the daughter of Nealie Ervin and Minnie Brandenburg, both deceased. She married Lloyd Driscoll and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker all of her life.

Barbara L. Walsman
Barbara L. Walsman, 52, of Batesville, born September 12, 1949 in Calumet City, Illinois, the daughter of Milton Olson and Marie (Berger) Olson. She married Thomas P. Walsman on May 22, 1971 in Crown Point and he survives.
Other survivors include her mother, Marie Olson of Crown Point, one daughter, Lynn Anne Hartman of Cincinnati, OH, one son, Jonathan Walsman of Boynton Beach, FL and one sister, Carol Emens of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, David Emens and her father, Milton Olson.
Mrs. Walsman was a high school teacher in the Sunman Dearborn Community School Corporation. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and St. Louis Catholic Church. She sang in the church choir for 10 years and was a city council member from 1997-1999. She earned her bachelor's degree from Butler University and her master's degree from Indiana University.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, October 30, 4-8 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 31, 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, Batesville, with Rev. Paul Walsman and Rev. Bob Weakley officiating.

Verna M. Schmidt
Verna M. Schmidt, 88, of Sunman, born September 9, 1913 in Norwood, OH the daughter of John and Emma Tegler Bauman, both deceased. She married Kenneth Schmidt and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1999.
Survivors include two daughters, Lora Lee Cahill of Attica, OH, Karyl Kay Schmidt of Indianapolis, three sons, Carl Kent Schmidt and David John Schmidt of Sunman, Anthony Alan Schmidt of Milan, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Schmidt was a homemaker. She was a member of Sunman Community Church and Church Women's Fellowship and Leisure Ladies Home Ec Club.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 27, 2 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Sunman, with Joey Nelson officiating.

William Thomas Boswell
William Thomas Boswell, 79, of Butlerville, born September 26, 1922 in Jennings County the son of Roy Boswell and Vera Collins Boswell, both deceased.
He married Patricia Ellis on December 4, 1948 in North Vernon and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Michael Boswell of Butlerville, Steve Boswell of Butlerville, Ronald Boswell of North Vernon, two daughters, Lisa Kipper of Indianapolis, Carol Gourley of Lugoff, SC, one brother, Charles Boswell of Butlerville, fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ione Baldwin and Bernice Lane and two brothers, Lawrence Boswell and Lionel Boswell.
Mr. Boswell was a 1942 graduate of Zenas High School. He farmed for 55 years. He was a deacon at Otter Creek Church for 45 years and he attended the Sunridge Baptist Church in Seabring, Florida. He was a member of the Otter Creek Baptist Church, Butlerville Masonic Lodge and the Seabring Recreation Club. He was a member of the school board in 1973 and he was the Campbell Trustee.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, December 11, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Pickett Funeral Home, North Vernon.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the funeral home at 10 a.m. with Gregg Brown of Georgia officiating.

Helen Louise Bradley, 81, of Sunman, born June 15, 1920 in Cleves, Ohio. She married Harry Bradley and he preceded her in death in 1964.
Survivors include special friend, Frank Mitchell of Sunman, two sons, Robert Bradley of Greensburg, James Bradley of Crete, IL, four daughters, Doris Baker and Bonnie Mitchell of Aurora, Lola Stein of Celina, OH, Dottie Hartman of Sunman, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bradley retired from Melben Products in Harrison, OH in 1984. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, December 11, 6-9 p.m. at Humphrey-Taylor-Detmer Funeral Home, Rising Sun.

Stanley D. McMurray, 57, of Versailles, born March 2, 1944 in North Bend, OH the son of Elmer and Lillian (Crouch) McMurray, both deceased. He married Marie L. (Bambi) Noble on October 2, 1965 and she preceded him in death on May 22, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Dave Richardson of Versailles, Stanley D. McMurray II of Versailles, one daughter, Chrystal Gail Meador of Osgood, grandchildren, Anthony and Breanna Meador of Osgood, four brothers, Doug McMurray of Milan, Vernon McMurray of Versailles, Melvin McMurray of Lawrenceburg, Elmer McMurray Jr. of Lawrenceburg, six daughters, Della McAdams of Moores Hill, Wilma Metcalf of Versailles, Shirley Belter of Florida, Mary Triplett of Ohio, Thelma Collins of West Virginia, Carolyn DeWitt of Versailles, several nieces and nephews and special friend Sara Bockover of Versailles.
Mr. McMurray was an employee of the City of Lawrenceburg. He was a member of the Amvets Post #17 in Versailles, Eagles Lodge of Lawrenceburg amd the Sons of the American Legion Post #267 of Osgood.

Edward Lee McKittrick
Edward Lee McKittrick, son of Vernon and Ruth (Lowe) McKittrick, born in Milan. He attended Smith School for eight years and graduated from Milan High School in 1939. He set up a Phillips 66 Station and later a McDonalds in Ft. Worth, TX.
Nannie B. Gibbs
Nannie B. Gibbs, 90, of Lawrenceburg, born December 9, 1910 in Hope, KY the daughter of George Baxter and Nettie Spencer, both deceased. She was a nurse aid.
Survivors include one son, Dallas Gibbs of Aurora, four brothers, Gilbert Baxter of Chillecothe, OH, Albert Baxter of Chillecothe, OH, Donald Baxter of Ray, OH, Howard Baxter of Chillecothe, OH, two sisters, Eunice Walters of Clarksburg, OH, Mamie Ingham of Chillecothe, OH, nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mildred Kearney and one son, Chalmer Gibbs.

Paul Edward Black, 75, of Osgood, born August 19, 1926 near Osgood the son of Paul Black and Norma M. Pendergast Black, both deceased. He married Peggy Weber on April 5, 1952 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Roy, Kenny, Wayne and William and sisters, Mary Sanders and Berta Jean Menchhofer.
Mr. Black was a former employee of Reynolds Gas Co. in Osgood and the Town of Osgood. He was a 1944 graduate of Versailles High School. He was a member of the Osgood Fire Department from 1955-1981, Osgood F&AM #603 and Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite.

Donald "Junior" F. Anderson
Donald "Junior" F. Anderson, 70, of Milan, born August 6, 1931 in Connersville the son of Henry and Pearlie Russel Anderson, both deceased. He married Marietta Sizemore in 1953 in Lawrenceburg and she survives.
Other survivors include five daughters, Carolyn Bentle and Matilda Gibson of Milan, Bernadette Holman of Versailles, Pearlie Ann Leap of Lapel, Melissa Hill of Illinois, one son, William Anderson of Kentucky, one sister, Lucille Widener, one brother, Charles R. Anderson, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Anderson.
Mr. Anderson retired from Durbin Gravel Company in Lawrenceburg where he was a mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post #235 of Milan and the VFW Post #6234 of Milan.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, January 29, 2 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, Sunman, with Rev. Larry Curry officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery, Sunman, with military graveside services conducted by the VFW Post #6234 of Milan and the American Legion Post #235 of Milan.

William S. "Pigeon" Allen
Willard S. "Pigeon" Allen, 83, of Moores Hill, born August 7, 1918 in Milan the son of Vernon and Martha (Stipe) Allen, both deceased. He married Louise A. (Sellers) Allen in 1939 and she survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Joe Allen and Tom Allen, both of Moores Hill, Jim Allen and Dave Allen, both of Greendale, two brothers, Warren Allen of Greendale, David S. Allen of North Bend, OH, seventeen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Mr. Allen was a US Navy Veteran having served in WWII and was a retired employee of Stedman's Foundry in Aurora and the LMS Water Company. He served the town of Moores Hill in various capacities for several years. He was a member of the Moores Hill Methodist Church, former member of Moores Hill Rescue 4, lifetime member of Moores Hill Fire Department and a lifetime member of the Moores Hill American Legion Post.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 26, 1 p.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home, Moores Hill, with Rev. Ray Meyer and Rev. Perry Richards officiating.
Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Moores Hill, with military services conducted by the Moores Hill American Legion Post #209.

Earl Daniel "Arlo" Phillippe
Earl Daniel "Arlo" Phillippe, 43, of Osgood, born February 24, 1958 in Batesville the son of Earl Keith and Nita May Wheeler Phillippe and they survive in Delaware.
Other survivors include one brother, Jerry K. Phillippe of Gulfport, MS and one sister, Holly M. Wieczorek of Bennington.
Mr. Phillippe worked for Milestone Construction of Indianapolis as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #267 of Osgood and also a member of the Southeastern Indiana Beagle Club.

Vivian E. Morton
Vivian E. Morton, 74, of Hanover, formerly of Cross Plains, born February 23, 1927 in Ripley County the son of H. Stanley Morton and Lotta Smith Morton, both deceased.
Survivors include one son, Randall Lee Morton of San Jose, CA, one brother, Robert L. Morton of Portsmouth, OH, one grandson, Dustin Morton of Indianapolis, caregiver, Bernice Morton of Madison, nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and many friends.
Mr. Morton was the former owner/operator of Morton General Store in Cross Plains for over 50 years. He graduated from Cross Plains High School in 1945 and attended Purdue University. He also attended Mount Sterling Baptist Church in Switzerland County and Cross Plains United Methodist Church.

Eric Jay Robbins
Eric Jay Robbins, 18, of Aurora, born June 20, 1983 in Cincinnati, OH the son of Dennis J. Robbins, Jr. and Renee Kohne Robbins, and they survive in Aurora.
Other survivors include two sisters, Natasha Robbins of Aurora, Misty Robbins of Aurora, paternal grandfather, Dennis Robbins, Sr. of Ludlow, KY and paternal grandmother, Kathleen Robbins of Ludlow, KY.

Carolyn T. Hyser, 71, of Aurora, born November 8, 1930 in Cincinnati the daughter of Charles and Helen (Nees) Tompkins, both deceased. She married Charles T. Hyser on June 11, 1955 and he survives.

Tom Snapp, 53, of Dabney, died Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Batesville. He was Cemetery Board. He was a Korean War veteran, a 50 year member of the Batesville Masonic Lodge #668 F&AM and a member of the Ripley County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3183. He graduated from Batesville High School in 1946 and attended Indiana University.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 3, 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Crossroads, with Rev. Robin Owen officiating.

Jeffrey Allen Ogden, 39, of Morgantown, born March 21, 1963 in Batesville the son of Gene and Eileen Jenks Ogden, and they survive in Osgood.
Other survivors include one brother, Gregory L. Ogden of Osgood, one sister, Cindy Pemberton of Naples, FL, two daughters, Jessica Lynn Ogden of St. Cloud, FL, Lindsay Ogden of Westfield and one grandchild.
Mr. Ogden graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School in 1981. He was a self-employed painter and a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Osgood.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 3, 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Osgood.
Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery, Osgood. Memorials may go to the American Diabetes Association or Jac-Cen-Del Community Scholarship Foundation.

Ruby Alice Bobb
Ruby Alice Bobb, 90, of Osgood, born November 4, 1911 in North Menomonie, Wisconsin the daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Joecks Radke, both deceased. She married Malcalm John Bobb on August 3, 1929 and he preceded her in death in 1970.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Byron Bobb of Osgood, Richard Eugene Bobb of Sarasota, FL, one daughter, Betty Marie Peters of Osgood, fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Radke and one sister, Eunice Clough.
Mrs. Bobb played the organ and piano professionally for many community activities and functions in the Ripley County area. She founded the "Osgood Teen" sponsored by the Osgood Moose in the middle 1950's to the middle 1960's. She was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church and a past member of the Osgood Moose.
Graveside services will be held today, Tuesday, June 4 at 2 p.m. at the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood with Dr. Bill Hoopes officiating.

Woodrow W. Fleming
Woodrow W. Fleming, 89, of Columbus, born August 21, 1912 in Pueblo, Colorado the son of Will G. and Ella Watkins Fleming, both deceased. He married Thelma M. Ernest in Seymour on August 28, 1938 and she preceded him in death on April 21, 1997.
Survivors include one daughter, Annette Heath of Columbus, two sons, Clark Fleming of Columbus, Dan Fleming of Columbus, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, George Neal Fleming and one brother, Harry Lynn Fleming.
Mr. Fleming retired in 1961 as a science teacher at Columbus High School and was a former baseball and basketball coach at the school. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus. He was a graduate of Hanover College and received his master's degree from the University of Illinois. He operated a Christmas tree farm in Columbus for over 50 years and wrote articles for Outdoor Indiana and other professional magazines.
He was the director of the Division of Fish and Wildlife of the Department of Natural Resources for 11 years during which Grouse Ridge Fish and Wildlife Area in Bartholomew County, Monroe & Patoka Reservoirs and the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge were developed. He received the Rural Service Award in 1966 and the Q.G. Noblitt Award in 1955 both by the Chamber of Commerce and the Bartholomew County Conservation Council Award for over 50 years of service. He also served on the Bartholomew County Planning Commission.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, 10 a.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Columbus, with Rev. Dennis Aud officiating.

Esther (Gunter) Fenwick
Esther (Gunter) Fenwick, 92, of Tallahassee, FL, born November 9, 1909 in Osgood the daughter of August Fenwick and Louise (Sarringhause) Fenwick, both deceased. She married Leon Fenwick on November 20, 1935 and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Fenwick of Crawfordsville, FL and Dennis Fenwick of Sacramento, CA.
Mrs. Fenwick was a graduate of Versailles High School and Bethesda Hospital Nursing School in Cincinnati, OH. She was a registered nurse at Bethesda Hospital and a member of the Green Valley, Arizona Canasta Club.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 5, 9-10 a.m. at Tanglewood Baptist Church, Versailles.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the church at 10 a.m. with Rev. Becky Pohle officiating.
Burial will be in the Tanglewood Cemetery, Versailles. Memorials may go to the Women's Missionary Society at Tanglewood Baptist Church.

Angela E. Burst
Angela E. Burst, 101, of Houston, TX, born February 22, 1901 in Oldenburg the daughter of Joseph Freihage and Anna Geisting Freihage, both deceased. She married William Burst on November 20, 1941 at St. John of Arc Church in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death in June of 1953.
Survivors include one daughter, Margo Heil, two grandsons, Chris Schoettelkotte and Todd Schoettelkotte, one great-granddaughter, Haley Schoettelkotte, one great-grandson, Grant Schoettelkotte, all of Houston, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Gertrude Freihage and three brothers, Edward Freihage, Joseph Freihage and Leo Freihage.
Mrs. Burst was a contributing writer for the Herald Tribune in Batesville. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary, Married Ladies Society and the Oldenburg Senior Citizens Organization.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Oldenburg, with Rev. Benno Heidlage, O.F.M. officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may go to the Holy Family Legacy of Hope.

Florence G. Craig
Florence G. Craig, 85, of Milan, born March 8, 1917 in Ripley County the daughter of Freeman Gard and Clara Mae (Morrison) Truitt, both deceased. She married Clifford Monroe Sellers and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1944. She later married Calvin Craig and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Clifford Freeman Sellers of Benton, IL, three daughters, Janet Wells of Greensburg, Carolyn Cunningham of Mayfield, KY, Nancy Thola of Osgood, one sister, Pearl Lupken of Batesville, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Jesse Truitt, one sister, Neola Truitt and one grandson, Michael McKee.
Mrs. Craig was a homemaker. She attended the Delaware United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 4, 2 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Rev. Dennis Hadler officiating.
Burial was in the Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles. Memorials may go to the Delaware United Methodist Church.
