WALTER G. ZIEMBA, 85, Scottsburg, died Thursday, May 6, at her home. She was a member of Atkins Chapel United Methodist Church in Floyds Knobs. Survivors include her children, Kelly Andres, Shelly Redford, Loretta Fulkerson, Leon Faulkenburg and Troy Faulkenburg; her mother, Mildred L. Redford; two brothers, Dale Redford and Tim Redford; three sisters, Vonda Bottorff, Debby Gelthaus and Joy Schindler; her companion, Roger Roach; her best friend, Sue Stoebe; and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 10, at the Kraft Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Atkins Chapel Cemetery. WILMA L. STONE, 71, Palmyra, died Saturday, May 8, at his home. He was a native of New Middletown and a retired teacher, principal and superintendent at Lanesville Community School Corp. He was a member of the South Harrison School Board and the Harrison County Hospital Foundation Board and past president of Day Spring-Emmaus. He was a past chairman of the Harrison County Community Foundation Board, the present chairman of the Grant Committee and a member of the Executive Committee. Survivors include his wife, Carol Philpot Uesseler; a son, John Uesseler of Norcross, Ga.; four daughters, Beth Boman of Corydon, Carrie Uesseler of Corydon, Jill Fitzgerald of Elizabeth and Sarah Carl of New Middletown; a brother, William Uesseler of Lanesville; two sisters, Edna Gunther of Corydon and Helen Philpot of Trafalgra; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 11, at the Old Capitol United Methodist Church in Corydon with burial in Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery. Du Pont De Nemours & Company in Louisville. Survivors include two sons, Darrell W. Graham of Palmyra and Larry C. White of Aiken, SC; a brother, Hugh G. Graham of Jeffersontown, Kentucky; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. JOHNNIE GODSAVE, 70, Scottsburg, died Tuesday, May 4, at her home. She was an associate broker for Key Real Estate in Salem and member of Hardinsburg Christian Church and Moose Lodge Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Myers; a son, Chris Myers of Madison; a daughter, Rhea Dawn Shouse of Campbellsburg; two brothers, Donald Harris of Hope and Robert Harris of Orleans; two sisters, Mary Lee Newlon of Indianapolis and Sheila Harris Schutz of Naples, Florida; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 7, at Weathers Funeral Home with burial in Hardinsburg Cemetery.

BETTY JEAN CARDER, 76, Campbellsburg, died Friday, May 7, at Bacala Nursing Center in Scottsburg. He was a native of Sunfish, Kentucky, a farmer, and co-owner of the old Nolan’s Hardware Store in Salem. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church near Salem and the Salem V.F.W. Post #6636. He served during the Korean War as a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of a Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife, Donna J. (Stoner) Nolan; a daughter, Shirley Ann Nolan of Salem; a son, Marvin Lee Nolan of Vallonia; three brothers, Arville A. Nolan of Seymour, William F. Nolan of New Albany and Tony W. Nolan Jr. of Leesburg, Florida; a sister, Dolly Mae Edwards of Westfield; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 9, at Dawalt Funeral Home with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery with full military honors. JOE B. DAVIS, 68, Scottsburg, born in Columbus and had been a resident of Washington and Scott counties since 1996. He worked 43 years for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, retiring in 2002. Memberships include St. Johns Lodge 20, F&AM, in Columbus and the Diesel Workers Union. Survivors include two stepsons, Harold L. Proffitt II of Louisville, Ky., and Kenneth L. Proffitt of Shepherdsville, Ky.; six stepdaughters, Penni Waddell and Traci Proffitt, both of Louisville, Rhonda Fowler of Taylorsville, Chrystal Baker of Elizabethtown, Ky., Adrianne Dunkin of Indianapolis and Christy of California; two sisters, Louise Davis and Linda Mitchell, both of Columbus; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg was observed from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 30. Today (Saturday), visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until the funeral service at 11 a.m. the Rev. Douglas Wallace will officiate. Burial will be in Little York Cemetery following full military honors at the graveside.

WILLIAM R. CONOVER, 74, Fort Wayne, died on Monday, April 26. A homemaker, she was a native of Scott County and a member of Scottsburg First Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Ann Fisher of Austin; a brother, Bobby Dale Johnson of Tennessee; a sister, Margaret Lee Wakefield of Madison; and two grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, April 28, at the Stewart Funeral Home in Scottsburg. Lionel Talbott officiated. Burial was in Scottsburg Cemetery. DUSTIN B. LEWIS, 21, Austin, born in Scottsburg and was a former employee of Golden Casting in Columbus. Survivors include his father, Chris Lewis Jr. of Austin; his mother and stepfather, Deanna and Clifton Barron of Scottsburg; a brother, Chris Lewis III of Scottsburg; a half-sister, Jerrica Barron of Scottsburg; his grandparents, Muriel Lewis, Chris Lewis Sr. and Linda White, all of Austin; and his great-grandmothers, Ruth Ison of Austin and Aileen White of Scottsburg. DAVID SCOTT GILBERT, 43, Austin, born in Seymour and was a self-employed carpenter, working in residential construction and remodeling. Memberships included Veterans of Foreign Wars, Scott County Post 6582 and Scott County Moose Family Center 2324. Survivors include his wife, the former Maxine Lush; a stepdaughter, Debbie Patterson of Scottsburg; his mother, Bonnie Gilbert of Scottsburg; a brother, Raymond Gilbert Jr. of Scottsburg; and a sister, Beth Ann Senatore of Scottsburg. The funeral was conducted on Monday, April 26, at the Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg. The Rev. Douglas Wallace and the Rev. Matthew J. Craig officiated. Burial was in Scottsburg Cemetery. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Darla Lindenmayer of Lexington; a brother, Spencer Lindenmayer of Lexington; and a sister, Cierra Lindenmayer of Lexington; his grandparents, Robert Sr. and Wanda Lindenmayer of Charlestown and Howard and Patty Keear of Kempner, Tx.; and his great-grandparents, Ida Vinsant of Careyville, Tx., and Viola Ford of Bridgeton, N.J. A private funeral service was conducted on Saturday, April 24, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown. Burial was in the Beswick Cemetery.

JOHN MONTGOMERY HARDGROVE, 77, Nancy, Ky., born in Somerset, Ky., and was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired carpenter for Morgan’s Construction in Austin. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083 of Crothersville and Scottsburg Church of God. Survivors include his wife, the former Jewell Malott; a son, John Hardgrove Jr. of Scottsburg; a brother, Bernard Hardgrove of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Josephine Lewis of Dayton, Ohio, Nora Jasper Ferguson of Somerset and Irene Winchester of Scottsburg; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted on Wednesday, April 21, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. Bro. Dave Muse officiated. Burial was in Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy. following graveside military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post 38's Honor Guard. GLADYS FAY DAILY, 85, Peoria, Az., born in Scottsburg and she and her late husband, John “Jasper” Daily, moved to Arizona in 1962. She was the retired manager of the former Florence Senior Citizens Nutritional Center in Florence, Az., and was a volunteer at the Pinal County Historical Museum there. She was also a volunteer of the Pinal County Visitors Center and was honored as Outstanding Senior Citizen of the Year in 1993 by the Florence Silver Streakers Association. She was the 1994 recipient of both the Harry Holland Community Service Award presented by the Arizona Council for Senior Citizens and the Community Service Award presented by Central Arizona College. She was a former chairman of the Florence Kiwanis Club Special Olympics Committee. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Eugene Daily of London, England, and Robert “Bob” Daily of Harrisonburg, Va.; three daughters, Helen Gillette and Janet Cochran, both of Phoenix, Az., and Evelyn Tatlock of Florence; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at the Florence Chapel on Tuesday, April 6.
