John M. Hamilton, 75, of Las Vegas, Nev., a native of Wells County, born in Wells County Sept. 21, 1926 to James and Hazel Gregg Hamilton.

Ill since last July, Shirley L. Haiflich, 58, of 418 North Mishawaka St, Akron, Ind., formerly of Roanoke, born May 14, 1943, at Cadiz, Kentucky, to Wayne and Mildred Shane Newnam. The father is deceased. The mother survives at Fairbury, Illinois.
Mrs. Haiflich’s marriage was Dec. 31, 1992, to Rev. Stevan R. Haiflich, who survives.
She was a materials planner at Raytheon Systems in Fort Wayne.
She was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church, Rural Chaplain’s Association, for which she was secretary for one year, and the American Business Women’s Association (Kilsoquah Chapter).
Surviving, in addition to her husband and mother, are two stepsons, Philip Haiflich and Andrew Haiflich; three sisters, Mrs. Wade (Elaine) Nystrom of Altona, Illinois; Karilyn Newnam of Urbana, Illinois, and Mrs. David (Elsie) Casteel of Great Falls, Montana; one brother, Stan Newnam of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and two step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Akron United Methodist Church, 121 North Mishawaka St., Akron, where services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Michael Harris officiating.

Robert William Cahoon Sr., 84, of Fillmore, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Christian Care Center in Bluffton.
Mrs. Fulkerson was engaged as a seamstress and worked also at a waitress at the Hobby House and L.S. Ayres Tea Room.
She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
She was died Jan. 19, 1987.
Surviving are two sons, Terry L. of Fort Wayne and Ron R. of Bloomington; a daughter, Mrs. Warren (Kay E.) Rauhe of Okemos, Mich.; two brothers, Harry Steffen and Kenneth Steffen, both of Bluffton; three sisters, Mrs. Hilda Robinson of Lafayette, Mrs. Vernon (Mary Ann) Kaehr of Bluffton and Mrs. Lucille Borror of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister are deceased.

Darlene M. Werling, 90, formerly of rural Decatur, born in Allen County Oct. 9, 1911 to Jasper and Jennie Springer Redding. Her marriage at Preble on Oct. 10, 1931 was to Arthur W. Werling, who died unexpectedly at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the emergency room of Blackford County Hospital in Hartford City.
Mr. McFeely retired about 10 years ago from management at the Overhead Door Corporation in Hartford City.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid sports fan of Indiana University and coached Little League baseball in Hartford City from 1980 to 1982 and was a volunteer at the Dunkirk Head Start program for the past two years.
He was died in infancy.

Richard “Dick” E. Smith, 70, Cemetery at Plymouth.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bataan.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge in Valparaiso, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1162 in Plymouth and American Legion Post 27.
He was died at 12:20 a.m. today, Feb. 6, at Meadowvale Care & Rehabilitation, where she had resided since 1997.
Mrs. Reece was employed for 30 years in the credit and collections department of Caylor-Nickel Hospital, retiring in 1985.
She was graduated from Rock Creek High School in Huntington County and Fort Wayne Business College. She and her late husband lived several years on a farm in Liberty Township, Wells County.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the United Methodist Church at Liberty Center.
She was died Nov. 18, 1968.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Nila Ann) Sell of Bluffton and Ms. Kahlia Walker of Liberty Center; two sisters, Mrs. Lester (Lucille) Edris of Christian Care Center and Mrs. Delbert (Betty) Gibson of Eaton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Two sisters are deceased.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home, where calling hours will be Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Sunday for one hour prior to services.

Dorothy M. Marshall, 82, a Wells County native, born at Ossian Oct. 24, 1919, a daughter of Harman and Faye Kauffman Emley. Her marriage at Henderson, Ky., on Oct. 28, 1940 was to Dale Marshall, who died at 9:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
She had worked at Moon & Moon Laundry/Dry Cleaning for many years and in the laundry department of Huntington Memorial Hospital many more years. She was a member of the Good Shepherd United Brethren Church and the Grayston Avenue United Brethren Church for 50 years. She also taught Sunday school for many years.
She was died Sept. 12, 1960; a second marriage on Aug. 13, 1967 at Huntington was to Cliffton Runion, who Cemetery in Huntington.

Kristina “Tina” Danielle Logan 29, stepsister of Theresa Weimer of Ossian, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Swiss Village at Berne.
Mrs. Habegger was involved in the operation of Habegger Furniture in Berne. Her husband, Sylvan, died Thursday, May 30, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sept. 27, 1947 to Otto and Helen Tisher Schultz, she was married May 22, 1971 to Buster L. Walker in Janesville, Wis. Both her husband and her father survive.
She was a graduate of Mercy School of X-ray Technology in Janesville.
Additional survivors include a son, Michael Walker, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Amy Miller of Athens, Ga.; and two sisters, Mary Roder and Barbara Rothen, both of Palm Bay, Fla.
Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, Ossian Chapel, with calling from 1 p.m. Sunday until time of services. Rev. Terry Linhart will officiate and burial will be in Kingston, Tenn.

Cornelius ‘Con’ F. Sterling, 82
Former owner of Centrifugal Metal Foundry in Bluffton, a firm which became Sterling Foundry, Cornelius “Con” F. Sterling, 82, born in Fort Wayne. He was an early pioneer of technological innovations for plastic packaging components and systems used in pharmaceutical and consumer products applications.
He was a manager at Lycoming Division of Avco in Williamsport, Va., and co-founded Plasti-Vac Corp. He became vice president of sales and research and development. He eventually became president of West’s Plastic Container Division and vice chairman of the company before retiring in 1985.
Mr. Sterling was vice chairman of the board of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1985 and past president of Tryall Beach and Golf Resort in Sandy Bay, Jamaica, and Aronimink Golf Club.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Callahan Sterling; four sons, Mike, Cork, Steve and Tim; a sister, Valeria A. Carteaux; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Michele Pastore Fendt, 40
Diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer in December of 2000, Michele Pastore Fendt, 40, of 4502 South Wayne St., Fort Wayne, died last year) was a leader and a participant along with other optometrists, medical doctors, dentists, other professionals and professional technicians. She made three such trips to Honduras in Central America and two to Mexico, helping to bring the gift of sight or better vision to people in areas of severe poverty.
Mrs. Fendt was died in June 24, 1974.
Dorothy Pastore survives in Fort Wayne and was with her daughter and family to assist through the recent period of terminal illness.
Michele Pastore Fendt's marriage was on August 21, 1993 in Bluffton to Todd Fendt, who survives. Also surviving are twin children, Nicholas Anthony Fendt and Celeste Elizabeth Fendt, at home; two brothers, Steve Pastore of Bluffton and Tom Pastore of Indianapolis, and one sister, Mrs. Geoff (Nicole) Penrod of Columbia City.
Mrs. Fendt was a past member of the Bluffton Lions Club and Tri Kappa here. She was a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of Fort Wayne and the Northeast Indiana Mother of Twins Club.
Calling will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thoma-Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home and two hours before the service Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Sipe had worked at Berne Novelty and at Berne Furniture.
She was a member of the Bear Creek Chapel Church and the Calvary Bible Church in Berne.
She was died Feb. 22, 1989.

Funeral services for Dee Steffen, 80, of Bluffton, were held at 10 a.m. today at the Bluffton North Apostolic Christian Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Steffen, who resided at 315 Elm Grove Rd., born in Bay City, Mich., Feb. 14, 1922, a daughter of Edward and Minnie Frank Freidinger. Her marriage at Bay City on May 3, 1944 was to Elmer L. Steffen, who died Friday, May 24, at Markle Health Care Center.
A 1946 graduate of West Rock Creek High School, Mr. Mautz was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church, the Huntington County 4-H Fair Board, the Huntington Extension Service Board, the Drainage Board and the Soil and Water Conservation Board in Huntington County.
He was died Sunday, May 26, at Heritage of Huntington.
Born in Wells County, Mrs. Elzey worked at Caswell-Runyon, at Triad-Utrad and was a cook at the Bulldog and Spot restaurants. She retired from Triad-Utrad.
Her husband, Alvin D.W., died Saturday, May 25, at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Schlichter had resided the past 20 years at Little Otter Lake and previously in Fort Wayne.
A homemaker, Mrs. Schlichter was died Saturday, May 25.
Mrs. Hochstetler retired from Elder-Beerman as a cosmetic manager after 21 years.
Surviving are her husband, Lorin; a daughter, Karen Pinches of Kettering; a son, Greg of Gainesville, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Formerly of Ossian, Marjorie N. Flanigan, 96, born at English, Ind., May 18, 1906, a daughter of David W. and Ella M. Hostetter Flanigan, worked as a secretary for Norton Manufacturing and Neff Engineering, both in Fort Wayne, and also as a reporter for the Ossian Journal weekly newspaper.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Ossian and a past worthy matron of Emerald Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are a nephew, David L. Flanigan of Farmington Hills, Mich, and a niece, Beverly Flanigan of Madison, Wis.

Katherine Houser, 33, of Fort Wayne, who was died in a four-vehicle crash on I-69, just north of Illinois Rd., about 5 p.m. Sunday, May 26.
Mrs. Houser was a respiratory therapist at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was died Saturday, May 25, at his home.
Born Nov. 27, 1941 in Union Twp., Huntington County, to Robert and Ina Call Myers, he worked for more than 40 years at Sealtest/Good Humor/Breyers in Huntington starting in 1960 through the present. An avid researcher of Huntington County history, he also collected coins, post cards and traveled.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Penny Garrett, Kim LaFollette and Leslie Helvey, all of Huntington; two brothers, Barney D. Myers of Bippus and Rick Myers of Lancaster; a sister, Mrs. J.B. (Emma Jane) Thornton of LaFontaine; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, with Pastor Brent Birdsall officiating. Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington County.

Marion L. Barringer, 83, who resided at 1608 South Wayne St., born in Gary, Mr. Barringer spent most of his life in Wells County. He lived from 1979 to 1993 at Lake George.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps.
He was a 52-year member of Bluffton American Legion Post 111, a life member of the Bluffton Moose Lodge, life member of the Bluffton Elks Lodge, serving two years as its exalted ruler, a past member of the Bluffton Street Fair board and chaplain for five years of the Elks Lodge at Angola.
He was Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 111.

In addition to owning and operating the Morrison Restaurant in Warren for many years, he served on the Warren Town Council and formerly was engaged in farming. He retired from Cline-Click Lumber Company in Warren.
Mr. Morrison was a member of the Warren Church of Christ, where he served an an elder for 40 years, sang in the Men’s Quartet and was in the Loyal Partners Sunday school class. He was a graduate in 1935 of Warren High School.

Audie Lillian Davis, 93
Audie Lillian Davis, 93, born in Clinton, Ky., and was a homemaker. Her husband, Lacy E., died at 2:09 a.m. Thursday, May 30, of injuries received in a one-car accident on St. Rd. 18 east of Montpelier.
He was scheduled to depart next week for armed forces duty in Germany.
Pvt. Bowman was born June 9, 1981, a son of Terry E. Bowman, who resides at Montpelier, and Mrs. Tom (Pamela K.) Bailey, who resides at Eaton.
Surviving also are two sisters, Mrs. David (Melissa) Dow of Hartford City and Brooke Bailey of Eaton; two brothers, Cody Bowman of Montpelier and Thomas Bailey of Eaton; the maternal grandmother, Betty E. Spiker of Marion, the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Paul (Carol) Sills of Montpelier; the paternal grandfather, Harry “Ed” Bowman of Hartford City; the paternal great-grandmothers, Esther Bowman of Bluffton, Helen Capper of Hartford City and Madjeska Russell of Montpelier; the maternal great-grandmother, Iva Poling of Marion; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and two nephews.
Rev. Frank Rodgers will officiate at services Monday and burial will be in Brookside Memorial Park at Montpelier. Military graveside rites will be performed by a U.S. Army unit out of Fort Knox, Ky.
Wesley Eugene Nash, 48
Wesley Eugene Nash, 48, a teacher and former resident of Wells County, born Aug. 30, 1953 in Goodrich, Mich., where he lived until moving to Indiana in 1966.
Surviving are his parents, Ed and Jessie Cassiday Nash, who reside at Petroleum; his wife, Patty (Rice) to whom he was married on Aug. 19, 1978; a daughter, Beth Nash of Frankfort; a son, Josh Nash of Frankfort; two sisters, Mrs. Tom (Laura) Neuenschwander of Ossian and Mrs. Rick (LuAnn) Rehm of Decatur; and two brothers, Jim Nash of Liberty Center and Jeff Nash of Glendale, Ariz.
A worship service of celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the First Presbyterian Church in Frankfort with Rev. Pat Smith officiating. A private family burial will be held at Bunnell Cemetery.
Visiting and a luncheon will follow the service at the church.
Fred Hedges King, 82
Fred Hedges King, 82, of Sharpsville, a native of Wells County, born in Harrison Township, Wells County, Oct. 6, 1919 to Hugh and Mary Hedges King. His marriage at Fort Wayne on July 6, 1940 was to V. Annabelle Danner, who survives.
Surviving also are a son, Jeffery L. of Knoxville, Tn.; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Joy D.) Braun of Kendallville and Mrs. Donald N. (Cheryl A.) Boyer of Sharpsville; a sister, Edna M Stinson of Bluffton; a brother, Jerry W. King of Bluffton; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A granddaughter is deceased.
Services at 1 p.m. Monday, June 3, will be at the Boyer Funeral Home in Sharpsville with Rev. Mark Wesler and Rev. Ray Squibb officiating. Burial will be in Sharpsville Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral chapel will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Aunalee E. Roberts, 74
Mother of Neva Ramseyer and Vera A. Vaughn, both of Bluffton, Aunalee E. Roberts, 74, died Tuesday, May 28, in Santa Rosa, Calif.
Mrs. Vickery was a school teacher for four years and then owned Montecito Deli from March 1974 to May 1989. She was a former member of the Missionary Alliance Church and a current member of Bellevue Community Church in Santa Rosa.
She was a native of Canton, S.D., and a resident for 27 years in Sonoma County in California. Her first husband, Walter M. Vickery, died May 3, 1997.
Surviving, in addition to the son in Bluffton, are three daughters, Mrs. Danny (Margaret) Furia of Santa Rosa, Evelyn Lang of Cotati and Mrs. Hoby (Chris) Halfhill, of Santa Clarita; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Bellevue Community Church in Santa Rosa. Memorials to Bellevue Community Church, or to Parkinson’s Action Network.
